We had a bit of a slower month due to less fires, which is to be expected. 04/01/20 Chicopee, MA 78 Skeele St. dwelling fire - Chicopee mass firefighters were called to 78 Skeele Street in the Willimansett section of the city just after 6am for a structure fire this morning. A 2nd alarm was sounded shortly after arrival. The large 2.5 wood framed home sat back off the street. City of Springfield, Westover Airforce base and the city of Holyoke provided mutual aid for city coverage

04/01/20 2nd alarm Holyoke, MA 108 Cabot St. commercial building fire—Holyoke mass firefighters were called to 108 Cabot Street April 1st, 2020 just before 10:30pm for a building fire. Upon arrival crews found a 2 story vacant loading dock area building attached to a 4 story mill well involved. A 2nd alarm was sounded right away. Crews had a hard time accessing the building to control the flames. The building is a complete loss.

04/03/20 San Antonio, TX 100 Grasmere Ct. Engine Co. 24 and Engine Co. 38 stretched on a well involved private dwelling in the 100 block of Grasmere Court on the cities Northeast side. Truck 38 arrived to find heavy fire pushing throughout the front half of the dwelling, and requested the first in engine to stretch an attack line. Crews were informed by neighbors that the multiple peo- ple might still be inside prompting crews to make a push into the dwelling and VES on the Charlie side in a un- burned add-on. The primary search came back negative and the homeowners arrived later on in the incident. Command had crews put multiple handlines to work and were able to get a knockdown on the bulk of the fire at the 20 min time stamp. Companies TX– 100 Grasmere Ct. dwelling fire—

04/07/20 Holyoke, MA 1 Cabot St. commercial building fire—Holyoke mass firefighters were called tonight to 1 Cabot Street for a reported fire. Crews arrived to a find a loading dock on fire attached to a multi story mill. Crews made an aggressive attack on the fire. The sprinkler system in the mill activated to aid crews.

04/07/20 E. Haddam Babcock Pond Wildlife Area brush fire—Thirteen fire departments, including Haddam Volunteer Fire Company, responded to a 10 -acre brush fire today (April 7) near the Babcock Pond Wildlife Management Area in East Haddam. Around 2:30 p.m., crews were dispatched to a par- tially wooded area located near Olmsted Road and Wickham Road. The fire spread rapidly due to strong winds and dry ground cover. Firefighters worked for more than three hours to extinguish the fire. Mutual aid to East Haddam also was provided by Colchester, Haddam Neck, East Hampton, Cobalt (company of East Hampton), Essex, Old Saybrook, Lyme, Salem, Chester, Gardner Lake, and Marlborough. Crews from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and the Connecticut Forest Fire Service also responded. The cause of the fire is under investigation with the East Haddam Fire Marshal’s Office.

04/08/20 2nd alarm Fall River, 267 Quequechan St. dwelling fire—About 07:30 Fall River Communication dispatched a Still Alarm for smoke coming from a dwelling. En- gines 9, 2, 4 Ladder4, Platform 1and Rescue responded. Engine 9 reported heavy smoke showing from a 2 1/2 story dwelling. Several hand lines were stretched with a interior attack. Car 2 reported heavy fire floors 1 & 2 and re- quested Engines 5 and 12 to the fire. the fire was knocked down in about 25 minutes.

04/10/20 Auburn, MA tractor trailer rollover Mass Pike Exit 10—Driver was heavily pinned for over 2 hours while firefighters from Auburn and Worcester Rescue 1 methodically cut the truck from around the driver.
UMass EMS drove the LifeFlight ground crew to the scene.

04/10/20 2-11 San Antonio, TX 14600 Nocodocious Rd. apartment building fire—Companies of the 5th, 7th, and 8th battalions worked a 2-11 Apartment fire in the 14600 block of Nacogdoches Road on the cities Far Northeast side. Squad Co. 40 checked out with heavy fire showing throughout the second floor and roof of a two story apartment building and struck the second alarm. Crews placed multiple handlines into service and utilized both Ladder 40 and Platform 14’s mains. Initial companies did have a brief delay in establishing a water supply due to a vehicle running over the 5” supply line. Command was able to out-tap the assignment at the 50 min time stamp, however crews remained on-scene well into the early morning hours performing salvage and overhaul. 04/10/20 2nd alarm Bridgeport, CT 746 Railroad Ave - Firefighters were preparing for shift change when west end companies received a box alarm for a dwelling fire in area of Park and Railroad Avenues. Responding companies could see it as they turned out of quarters. Companies arrived reporting a three story, occupied, private dwelling with fire on all floors of the number 1 side. Battalion one arrived, confirmed the first report and transmitted a second alarm due to the time of day and occupancy as well as the wind condition present. The fire quickly spread and took hold of the dwelling as firefighters fought an interior attack to darken down the fire. Tower ladder 5 was later used to mop up and hydraulically overhaul the dwelling as firefighters took a blow. Several families were left homeless from the fire. No one was hurt.

Crews made an aggressive attack and contained the fire to the attic area.

04/13/20 Brockton, MA porch fire—FAO received a call for a porch fire about 04:00 hr.'s. Engines 5, 4, 7 Ladder 1 and Car 56 responded. Car 56 had a small porch fire on arrival. One line was stretched and operated as Ladder 1 opened the balcony area. Squad A and TSU were sent to the scene after clearing a car fire. The fire was quickly knocked down and the Arson Squad investigated and found the cause to be discarded smoking materials.

04/19/20 Auburn, MA water rescue—Strong work by Auburn firefighters on Sunday when they were able to make a quick grab of a kayaker that fell out, lost his kayak and was only holding onto a branch on Eddy Pond. He did not have a PFD on. They activated the District 7 Dive Team however were able to call that off very quickly.

04/20/20 San Antonio, TX 1100 W. Myrtle dwelling fire-Engine Co. No. 10 stretched on a working fire in an occupied dwelling in the 1100 block of W. Myrtle in the “Five Points” section of the city. Engine Co. 10 checked out with fire showing from the Charlie side of the single story, wood framed structure and upgraded the response to a working fire assignment. Crews were able to get a quick knockdown on the fire thanks to an aggressive push through the dwelling. Command was able to out tap the box at the 20 min time stamp. 04/20/20 2nd alarm Chicopee, MA 172 Chapel St. dwelling fire—Chicopee Ma firefighters were called to 174 Chapel Street on Monday April 20th just after 7:30pm for a structure fire. Engine 7 arrived 1st to find heavy smoke and fire from a garage/carport attached to a 1 story wood framed home. Crews made quick work of the fire and kept it mainly to the garage/ carport area. The fire is under investigation .

Upon arrival crews had smoke showing from a 2 story brick row house. Fire was in the basement and crews made an aggressive attack on the fire. Fire was contained to the apartment in the 2 story row house. Fire is under investigation.

04/24/20 Spencer, MA North Spencer Rd. Dump truck rollover pin job— Spencer Fire, EMS, and Police were dispatched to North Spencer Road for a large dump truck with the driver trapped. After an extended extrication, the driver was freed and transported to UMASS hospital in Worcester. Great work by all involved in this lengthy extrication. The truck was removed by Boomba's Towing.

04/25/20 Sturbridge, MA MVA pin job Fiske Hill and Whittemore—Sturbridge Fire & Police and Mass State Police responded to the intersection of Fiske Hill Rd and Whittemore Rd for 3 car accident. Sturbridge Fire had to pop open a door with hydraulic tools to assist one of the victims out of the car. 2 patients were transported to the hospital.

04/26/20 Bridgeport, CT 1369 Iranistan Ave -At 4:25pm, the Bridgeport ECC dispatched a call for a structure fire at 1317 Iranistan Ave, this Charlie-6 assign- ment consisted of Engine 1, Engine 3, Engine 4, Engine 7 as R.I.T., Ladder 5, Ladder 11, Rescue 5, Safety Officer 1, and both battalions. Car 2 later responded. On arrival, Engine 3 asked dispatch about the address, as there was no 1317. Engine 4 caught the plug at Wood & Iranistan while Engine 3 continued up the street. Engine 3 arrived at 1369 Iranistan, a vacant and boarded 2 1/2 story dwelling and announced they had smoke from the rear. Engine 4 made an approximately 430ft lay down the street to the call while Engine 3 caught the plug at Olive & Iranistan. 2 lines were stretched and a working fire was transmitted. Companies found fire in the basement and encountered access issues with no stairs into the basement. Rescue 5 made searches that turned up inconclusive, however, they did find hoarding conditions on the 3rd floor. The fire was put under control quickly and companies soon packed up.

04/26/20 San Antonio, TX 9000 Koenig dwelling fire—Overnight, Far Westside companies stretched on a well involved private dwelling in the 9000 block of Koenig Dr. Engine Co. 35 and Truck Co. 35 had heavy fire throughout the Charlie side and attic of a large two story home. First due crews initially went into the offensive mode to try and keep the fire held to the area of origin. By the 10 min time stamp, crews were making little progress and were reporting high heat and some structural integrity issues within the dwelling prompting Battalion Chief 3 to transition to a defensive posture. Crews dropped multiple ground lines and placed Truck 35’s tower into use. Command was able to out tap the box at the 40 min time stamp, but crews remained on scene for well over 2 hours mopping up hot spots. 04/28/30 2nd alarm San Antonio, TX 3400 Saledo Creek Dr.-Companies of the 5th, 7th, and 8th battalions worked a 2-11 apartment fire in the 3400 Salado Creek Dr on the cities Far Northeast Side. Medic Officer 3 was in the vicinity when the box was tapped and arrived to find heavy fire throughout the attic and parts of the second floor of a two story apartment building. He immediately started evacuating residents from the still occupied build- ing and transmitted the 2-11. Crews worked for close to 50 min to bring the fire under control utilizing multiple large handlines, deck guns, and aerial master streams. 04/29/20 San Antonio, TX—25000 W. Southcross Blvd. commercial building fire—Engine Co. 16 and 21 stretched on a commercial building fire in the 2500 block of W. Southcross Blvd on the cities Southwest Side. Battalion Chief 2 checked on location with heavy fire and smoke coming from a medium com- mercial building and filled out the first alarm assignment. Crews stretched lines through the front and to the rear for fire attack. Thanks to a coordinated and aggressive attack, crews were able to make quick work of the very smoky fire.
