(June 18, 2021) – For the third time in four games, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders came from behind late to defeat the Syracuse date opponent result Mets 7-5 on Friday night at PNC Field. SWB has won the first four games of the series with Syracuse, and has won six straight overall. June 11 @ Buffalo (Trenton) L, 4-2 June 12 @ Buffalo (Trenton) W, 6-4 (10) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Derek Dietrich blasted a towering opposite-field home run into the bullpen June 13 @ Buffalo (Trenton) W, 8-0 in left. Dietrich finished the game 1-for-2 with a home run and was hit by a pitch twice. June 15 Syracuse W, 12-6 In the bottom of the fourth, the RailRiders tacked on two more on a two-run single by Rob Brantly to take a 3-0 lead. Meanwhile, Nick Nelson was June 15 Syracuse W, 10-7 (10) strong, working around five hits in 4.1 innings in his second start of the season for the RailRiders. He struck out four and did not issue a walk. Syracuse June 17 Syracuse W, 4-2 struck back in the top of the fifth, however, taking a 4-3 lead when Travis Blankenhorn connected for a grand slam off Adam Warren. The slam came June 18 Syracuse W, 7-5 on the first pitch following a 22-minute rain delay. June 19 Syracuse 6:05 p.m. The RailRiders evened the ledger in the bottom of the sixth when Brantly blasted a solo home run off Bradley Roney to tie the game at 4-4. The June 20 Syracuse 1:05 p.m. round-tripper was Brantly’s fourth of the season, and his second in the last three days. In the top of the seventh the Mets regained the lead on a solo June 22 @ Lehigh Valley 7:05 p.m. home run from MLB rehabber Jeff McNeil off Braden Bristo. That represented the first run allowed by Bristo (4-0) this season in 19.0 innings of work. June 29 @ Worcester 6:35 p.m. news & notes 2021 vs. syracuse FOR MY NEXT (DIE)TRICH: When play began on June 6, SWB infielder Derek Dietrich was hitting only .119/.316/.237, and had endured an 0-for-27 skid to end the month of May. However, beginning with a 1-for-2 performance against Lehigh Valley that night, Dietrich has found overall head-to-head: 9-1 success at the plate in his last 10 games, batting .320/.469/.600 (8-for-25) with 6 R, 1 2B, 2 HR, and 8 RBIs. May 9 NBT Bank Stadium W, 15-10 The SWB franchise record for longest on-base streak belongs to Brandon Drury, who reached base in 32 straight games in the 2018 season. Outfielder Greg Allen is riding a season-long 16-game on-base streak into play on Sunday afternoon, and infielderHoy Park has reached base safely in 17 consecutive games. In the last eight days, the bullpen has combined for a 1.78 ERA (7 ER/35.1 IP), while allowing July 9 PNC Field 7:05 p.m. just 23 hits, 10 walks and 41 strikeouts. The current stretch has lowered SWB’s bullpen ERA to 3.10 on the season, the 11th-best in all of minor July 10 PNC Field 6:05 p.m. league baseball, and fourth-best in Triple-A East (Buffalo, 2.46). RailRiders closer Luis García leads all minor leaguers with 11 saves on the season. July 11 PNC Field 1:05 p.m. July 27 NBT Bank Stadium 6:35 p.m. MEET THE METS: For the first time since the opening series of the season, the RailRiders take on the Syracuse Mets in a six-game series at PNC July 28 NBT Bank Stadium 6:35 p.m. Field this week. After losing on opening night, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre reeled off five straight wins to close the series at NBT Bank Stadium in an impressive offensive showing. The Baby Bombers hit .306 AVG/.426 OBP/.578 SLG in that series, slugging 15 home runs and scoring at least July 29 NBT Bank Stadium 6:35 p.m. 10 runs in a game twice. The RailRiders and Mets also played the longest game in SWB franchise history in a 4-hour, 9-minute marathon on July 30 NBT Bank Stadium 6:35 p.m. May 6, a 17-11 final. Unbelievably, that was the first of two four-hour games in that series (also May 9) and one of four four-hour games that July 31 NBT Bank Stadium 6:35 p.m. SWB has played this season. August 1 NBT Bank Stadium 1:05 p.m. BEAT THE METS: PNC Field is quickly turning into a house of horrors for the Syracuse Mets. Before Thursday’s wire-to-wire win for the RailRiders, 2019 results: SWB RailRiders, 14-6 the team had erased multi-run deficits to defeat Syracuse in each of the last three games the Mets played here (Game 141 of the 2019 regular all-time series: RailRiders Lead 317-216 season and the first two games of this series). The Syracuse bullpen was particularly battered in those contests, pitching to the tune of a 19.17 ERA (25 R, 22 ER/10.1 IP), on 22 H, 11 BB, and 8 K. In the current series, the Mets bullpen has blown three saves in four games. Under the Mets railriders at a glance affiliation (2019 - Present), Syracuse is just 2-11 at PNC Field, and has lost 10 straight to SWB in Moosic. COMEBACK KIDS: The RailRiders erased multi-run deficits four times en route to victory in their last 10 games. On Tuesday, they trailed 5-0 2021 regular season: 27-11 and eventually won 7-5, with a two-run single from Derek Dietrich in the top of the eighth putting SWB ahead for good. Then on Saturday, GB: +2.0 1st, AAA East Northeast the RailRiders erased an early 4-0 advantage to win 6-4 in 10 innings.
