Malibu 90265 Introduction
Malibu 90265 Introduction by Taylor Coffman FROM THE SANTA MONICA PIER, it’s a six-mile drive up Pacific Coast Highway to Tuna Canyon Road. Not far along this northwest-to- westerly route lies the site of the Beach House, as William Randolph Hearst and Marion Davies called their grand mansion of the 1920s and ’30s, once the film colony’s most palatial home. Past that, in Pacific Palisades, lies the Bel-Air Bay Club; and then PCH reaches Sunset Boulevard, the world’s only street so-named. On the ocean side is the fish restaurant known as Gladstone’s Malibu. But it’s a false start: the border of that famous town lies almost a mile ahead still. Thelma Todd’s house and the section of Pacific Palisades called Castellammare are next; tucked away nearby, invisible from the main road, is the Getty Villa (J. Paul Getty greatly admired Hearst). Then comes the more working-class enclave of Sunset Mesa, or Parker Mesa. Right past it is the last part of what, overall, amounts to outlying Los Angeles and its coveted Westside, namely, the place where Topanga Canyon Boulevard reaches Topanga State Beach, once a Bohemian seaside haunt but now a bittersweet memory. Go another half mile, past the City of Malibu sign, and watch for a larger sign next to Tuna Canyon Road. It announces “Malibu 27 Miles of Scenic Beauty.” Years ago, in this same spirit of local pride, the old Malibu Township was often said to extend for twenty-six miles. In reality, twenty-nine miles (and even closer to thirty) is more like it in embracing the total Malibu coastline, the long shorefront of what I like to call greater Malibu, the storied land of postal ZIP code 90265. -

Cult Statue of a Goddess
On July 31, 2007, the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Getty Trust reached an agreement to return forty objects from the Museum’s antiq uities collection to Italy. Among these is the Cult Statue of a Goddess. This agreement was formally signed in Rome on September 25, 2007. Under the terms of the agreement, the statue will remain on view at the Getty Villa until the end of 2010. LOS ANGELES—The Art of Ancient Greek Theater, on view at the Getty Villa from August 26, 2010 – January 3, 2011, is the first exhibition in the United States in over fifty years to focus on the artistic representation of theatrical performance in ancient Greece. Assembling international loans of antiquities from many museums and private collections, the exhibition illustrates the ways in which dramatic performance was depicted in the visual arts of ancient Greece between the fifth and the first centuries B.C. The exhibition is being presented in conjunction with the Getty Villa’s annual outdoor theater performance, Sophocles’ Elektra. “Ancient art and theater share a strong and enduring connection–one that is inspired by mythology and the social, cultural, and political realities of life in ancient Greece and Rome,” says David Bomford, acting director of the J. Roth [email protected] Re: Senate Bill 50 (Wiener); (tentative) hearing date January 22, 2020; OPPOSE as worded; request for amendment to include unambiguous exemption for all parcels in the VHFHSZ. Dear Committee Chair Atkins, Vice-Chair Wilk and members Bates, Monning and Roth: Pacific Palisades Community Council (PPCC) since 1973 has been the voice of the community and the most- based organization in Pacific Palisades – a community of about 25,000 located in the wildland-urban interface between the coast and the Santa Monica mountains within the City of Los Angeles (City). The community of Brentwood (also in the wildland-urban interface within the City) is adjacent and located to our east. PPCC is on record as strongly opposing SB 50. At the same time, we agree with the general goal of addressing the state’s affordable housing and climate challenges as well as the suggestion that lawmakers should “continue conversations” about how best to achieve this goal (as Senator Atkins recently expressed). However, the new amendments to SB 50 highlight one area of immediate and significant concern for Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, additional hillside areas of the City and other similarly-situated areas of the state (including many fire-prone communities within each of your own districts): Lack of VHFHSZ Exemption Pacific Palisades is located entirely within the Cal Fire Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone (VHFHSZ), as is most of Brentwood. -

APPENDIX D EXISTING COASTAL ACCESS PARKING ANALYSIS AND SHARED PARKING STUDY This appendix provides the technical data that informed the analysis of coastal access parking availability in Downtown Hermosa Beach, which is provided in Section 3.3, Recreation of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR). Fehr & Peers prepared an existing conditions memorandum that described parking utilization in Downtown Hermosa Beach and at Selected Hotels. This data help informed and confirm the assumptions in the Shared Parking Study prepared by the Applicant’s parking consultants Walker Parking Consultants. The Shared Parking Study was also independently peer reviewed by Fehr & Peers, and underwent numerous rounds of revisions to clarify assumptions and substantiate impact conclusions that have been made in the EIR. The project site is located at the western terminus of Pier Avenue. This memo also includes an analysis of parking duration at a downtown public parking structure and parking utilization at three comparable beach hotel locations. STUDY AREA The data collection for this effort included on-street public parking within approximately three blocks of the project site and off-street public parking at three select lots (Lots A, B, and C).
