Pushkin (Tsarskoye Selo) Tour This small charming town located just 20 kilometres south of St.Petersburg is interesting not only for being Romanov's Summer Residence since the times of Peter the Great. Young Alexander Pushkin studied here, and the place remained a source of inspiration throughout the poet’s life. It was here where the first successful attempt to build a model Russian city was made. Its parks truly are masterpieces of landscape art and the imaginative and sophisticated take on their pavilions don’t fail to amaze. We will also learn how the royals spent their leisure time. The palaces have witnessed influential historical events – from the birth of future emperors to the last departure of the Nikolai II and his The city itself presents a unique opportunity to see the town-planning model used to build such Russian cities as Saratov, Omsk, Tomsk, Krasnoyarsk, Smolensk etc. Tsarskoye Selo is also the first station of the first Russian railroad. Pushkin studied at Tsarskoye Selo one of the best educational establishments of his time. Later he would come back as a newlywed to spend his honeymoon here. We will travel to Pushkin on the metro (15 min, 35 rub) and suburban train (25 min, 45 rub). Then we will walk a short distance to the park and palaces. The tour will take 6-7 hours altogether. We will see - The remaining part of the ideal city (the Cathedral Square, Gostiny Dvor, post office and police station - The Alexander Park and Alexander Palace – the birthplace of Nikolay II, the Arsenal, the White Tower, the Parnas hill and the Chinoiserie - The Catherine Park and the Catherine Palace, the Lower Bathhouse, Turkish Baths, the Chesme column, the Cameron Gallery and the Hermitage We will learn about the architects and geniuses (a Dutchman, two Scotsmen, two Englishmen and a Russian) behind this magnificent complex of parks, palaces, churches, bridges, and pavilions. .

Conditions for the formation and subsequent reconstructions of Theater Square and areas adjacent to the Neva river are analyzed. The nature and scope of changes those areas undergone in the latter half of the 19th and early 20th centuries are identified. It is shown that Senate, Admiralty, Rumyantsev, Collegiate squares and Razvodnaya ground (used for the changing of the guard) lost their transparency which disturbed the relationship between the Neva water area and city open spaces, and that significant damage was caused to the city center panorama. It is noted that the center landscape potential was neglected due to that reason. Proposals are made to recreate the lost transparency of the city center public spaces. We decided to run this committee for a multitude of reasons, but I personally think that Russian in 1917 represents such a critical point in history. In an unlikely way, the most autocratic regime on Earth became replaced with a socialist state. The story of this dramatic shift in government and ideology represents, to me, one of the most interesting parts of history: that sometimes facts can be stranger than fiction.

Romanov News Новости Романовых By Ludmila & Paul Kulikovsky №138 September 2019 New Bust to Emperor Alexander III at St. Nicholas Church in Polyarny City A monument to Emperor Alexander III was solemnly opened and consecrated in Polyarny city On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of Polyarny, a solemn opening ceremony of the bust of Emperor Alexander III took place on the territory of St. Nicholas Church. Polyarny is a city in the Murmansk region, located on the shores of the Catherine’s harbour of the Kola Bay of the Barents Sea, about 30 km from Murmansk. The city is home to the Northern Fleet and as such is a closed city. The port was laid down in the summer of 1899 and named Alexandrovsk in honour of Emperor Alexander III. In 1931 it was renamed Polyarny., Parishioners of the church of St. Nicholas the Miracle Worker and Rector Archpriest Sergei Mishchenko, initiated and sponsored the bronze bust of the great Russian Emperor Alexander III. The monument was made with donations from parishioners and in February 2019 was delivered from the workshop of Simferopol to Polyarny. The opening and consecration ceremony was conducted by Bishop Tarasiy of the North Sea and Umba. The St. Nicholas Church, with the bust of Emperor Alexander III standing under the bell tower.
