New Chamber Member Highlight: Jack’s Helping Hand

Jack’s Helping Hand assists children with special needs and cancer through financial assistance and programs. It was founded by Paul and Bridget Ready in memory of their son Jack, whose three-year struggle with a rare form of brain cancer ended in 2004. The Jack Ready Imagination Park is our community’s first universally accessible park, giving children of all abilities the opportunity to play in a safe, beautiful place. The park, 33 acres located on the Nipomo Mesa, will be accessible by foot, bike, stroller, wheelchair and walker, and will include themed play structures, sand play area, sports areas, therapeutic equestrian riding center, and a sensory garden. Page 24 South County Chambers of Commerce RISE & Stand Strong recently announced their merger and new brand: Lumina Alliance

RISE & Stand Strong announced their merger last month and unveiled the new name and logo at a special Brand Launch Celebration. Both organizations have been in existence since the mid 1970s, striving to support and empower survivors and educate the community about sexual and intimate partner violence. The name Alianza Lumina/Lumina Alliance was chosen for the new organization for its met- aphorical alignment with their mission. “Lumina” is of Latin origin and means to light, to illuminate, to shine, and to enlighten. It is a metaphor for their work in shining a light on the issues of sexual and intimate partner violence, which have long been kept in the dark. They hope to serve as a guiding light for the commu- nity in ending sexual assault/abuse and inti- mate partner violence through innovative pre- vention education services. “Alliance” or “Alianza” refers to the alliance of Stand Strong and RISE as they become one organization. Alliance also represents the organization's alli- ance with survivors, their loved ones, and the community as they work to end gender-based violence together. Click here to learn more.
