The proposed painting, depicting the goddess Venus surrounded by cupids and the Three Graces, is attributable to a master active in the seventeenth century, perfectly adhering to the stylistic and compositional models of the Bolognese Francesco Albani, presumably trained in his prolific workshop.

A disciple of , Albani greatly contributed to the spread of Bolognese classicism, providing an interpretation that, in the latter part of his career, became more idyllic and compliant to the most intimate tastes of the clients. It is for this reason, in fact, that the most intense and productive aspect of Albani's workshop is to be found in the mythological paintings, rather than in those with a religious theme.

In our composition, the goddess Venus, sitting half-naked in three quarters, with a twist of the bust is turned to look at a winged putto behind her. At her side the Three Graces are portrayed, one of them is choosing the jewels to offer her, another is trimming her hair while a third is touching a sweetheart who is fluttering over the scene.

Finally, the scene, set in a luxuriant garden enriched by gushing fountains, temples, sculptures and classical architecture with high colonnades, is dotted with a myriad of winged Cupids and playful cupids that animate the scene in a disordered way: one tries on the jewels intended for Venus, two others intent on playing with a mirror, another is

The composition in question draws inspiration from several works with a similar subject performed by Francesco Albani: among these, of course, the 'Toilet of Venus' and' Venus in the forge of Vulcan ', preserved in the in , or the' Toilet Venus' of the Prado Museum (Madrid).

The painting, of excellent quality, is proposed in very good conservation conditions. Accompanied by an 18th century frame in gilded wood.

Like all our objects, the work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity in accordance with the law. https://www.anticswiss.com/en/fine-art-antiques/the-triumph-of-venus-francesco-albani-1578--1660-worksho-21566
