50 Years in Indonesia 20 Participants of e-Motorsport Competition TOYOTA GAZOO Racing GT Cup 2021 Enter Race Day Round 1 after Winning the Qualification Round

Jakarta (6/25) – Registration for the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing GT Cup 2021 e-Motorsport competition, which was opened by PT (TAM) on June 1st, received positive enthusiasm from e-Sport and e-Motorsport fans in Indonesia. It was recorded that there were more than 130 participants who took part in the qualifying round which took place on Monday, June 22th 2021 through the PlayStation® gaming platform. Competing virtually in recording the fastest time using TOYOTA GAZOO Racing products such as the GR Supra and GR Yaris, as many as 20 participants managed to emerge as winners and advance to the next round, namely Race Day Round 1 which take place on Saturday, June 26th 2021 on the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca circuit and will be broadcasted via live streaming on the Toyota Indonesia YouTubeTM channel at 8 PM.

“Congratulations for the 20 participants who have qualified for the Race Day Round 1 after winning the fastest time in the time trial event in the qualifying round. We hope that the participants can feel the joy of competing using TOYOTA GAZOO Racing products such as the GR Supra and GR Yaris, and later can be a representative of Indonesia to compete at regional and even global levels," said Marketing Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), Anton Jimmi Suwandy.

After going through the qualifying round, 20 participants that divided into two (2) classes, namely 10 participants in the Rookie class and 10 participants in the Rising Star class are prepared to compete in the Race Day Round 1. Then, participants will compete again in the Race Day Round 2 on July 10th 2021. Until finally, participants will enter the final round which consists of two (2) sessions, namely Practice Day on August 13th and Final Round Race Day on August 14th 2021. During the competition, participants will collect points in each round so that the participant with the highest points will emerge as the national champion.

Participants who win the national competition until the final round will advance to the regional competition in October 2021. If they win at the regional level, then the participant has the opportunity to advance to the global level competition in December 2021 under a condition that they have attended at least four (4) global qualifications. Currently the closest global qualification schedule is the Round 5 Global Qualification on July 4th, Round 6 Global Qualification on July 18th, and Round 7 Global Qualification on August 22nd, 2021.

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing GT Cup 2021 is a Toyota Global e-Motorsport competition presented by PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) to develop and popularize motorsport through a virtual platform in Indonesia. This national-scale e-Motorsport competition is in collaboration with the Indonesian Motor Institution (IMI), which is the principal organization of motor sports in Indonesia.

This competition is expected to be a new channel for all Indonesian people who have an interest in e-Sports, especially e-Motorsport, to show their abilities while at the same time opening up opportunities to compete in global events. In the medium term, this competition is also expected to support the scouting system or the search for talented young drivers in Indonesia.

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing is Toyota's motorsport division that is responsible for improving performance in racing events such as the (WRC), World Endurance Championship (WEC) and Dakar Rally. This division is also inhabited by Toyota's best technicians. Experience and data obtained from the racing arena are then processed as a reference for developing new . This division was officially formed in 2007 as an effort to realize the philosophy of "Roads Build People and People Build Cars".

Through this philosophy, Toyota believes that the world of motorsport competition or the racing arena is able to reveal the best potential of a vehicle. Testing the vehicle on the circuit is also one way to test the endurance of Toyota vehicles to the maximum limit. The presence of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing has given birth to various line ups and variants of reliable sports cars, including the Toyota GR Supra and Toyota GR Yaris.
