LEHI REMOVAL A Guide to Managing THE LEHI CITY STREETS DIVISION’S PRIORITY IS TO PROVIDE THE SAFEST POSSIBLE DRIVING CONDITIONS. IS DEPENDENT ON A NUMBER OF FACTORS, INCLUDING THE TIMING AND DURATION OF A SNOWSTORM AND THE OF THE SNOW. THIS GUIDE PROVIDES RESIDENTS WITH INFORMATION ABOUT THE SNOW REMOVAL PROGRAM AND SETS EXPECTATIONS DURING AND AFTER A .

SNOW CONDITIONS The Lehi City Streets Division makes it a priority to be responsive during and immediately after a storm. Response to individual streets and neighborhoods will depend on several factors, including timing and duration of the storm.

TIMING Crews will make every effort to keep major streets clear of snow and . Heavily traveled and routes will receive top priority to ensure everyone’s safety. Once major commuter roads have been deemed safe for travel, secondary and side streets will be cleared.

During evening and early morning storms, crews should have ample time to prepare for commuting hours. Plows will continue to clean, treat, and widen roadways until reasonably safe conditions are met.

DURATION The duration of a storm plays an important role in snow plowing operations. Storms of extended duration require all available resources to keep roads open over an extended period of time. A snow storm of four inches over a 24-hour period will require more time and man hours than a storm of six inches over an 8-hour period. Please keep in mind that plows are still hard at work well after the snow has stopped falling. Snow Plow Responsibilities

Roads Maintained By: n

e C Other Municipality 1900 S Lehi City a Rd g Utah County to a r State a S Private400 S

Not all roads are maintained by Lehi City. Private roads, state roads, and county roads will not be plowed by Lehi, but will be maintained by the respective group or organization. SNOW REMOVAL PRIORITIES

Snow removal crews are prepared to work 24 hours a day from November 1 to March 30. In order to ensure the safest travel conditions possible, snow removal routes are prioritized by the amount of traffic received.

Main arterial roads with the most traffic, Priority 1 Roads including those with school and bus routes.

Other main roads that may see significant traffic Priority 2 Roads or be an area of public safety concern.

Priority 3 Roads Residential areas.

Subdivisions, cul-de-sacs, and end streets (after Priority 4 Roads 4 inches of snow or more).

Redwood , Main Street, State Street, 2100 UDOT Roads North, Timpanogos Highway.

The City’s first priority is to keep main roads open and passable. Plows will continue to clean, treat and widen roadways until reasonably safe conditions are met. During heavy snowstorms, it is unlikely that residential roads will be reached immediately because main roads must be repeatedly plowed.

PARKING Lehi City code prohibits parking vehicles, trucks, trailers, RVs or ATVs on any public street from November 1 to March 30, between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. In addition, parking on the street during or within 24 hours after a snow storm is prohibited.

The snow plows used for snow removal are large and difficult to maneuver around obstacles. Failure to remove vehicles during a storm may result in unintended damage to the snow plow and your personal vehicle. Please assist snow removal crews in keeping your roads cleared by following these parking restrictions. SNOW REMOVAL RESPONSIBILITIES

RESIDENT RESPONSIBILITIES DURING A STORM

Property owners are responsible for removing snow in the following areas: • openings • adjacent to their property • around fire hydrants • around mailboxes

Please remember that shoveling, plowing, or blowing snow into the street is prohibited by city ordinance. The city right-of-way for snow storage extends nine feet from the curb. Landscaping and personal property within the right-of-way is installed at the property owner’s risk.

Please ensure that all obstructions are removed during and immediately following a storm (e.g. vehicles and trash containers).

CITY RESPONSIBILITIES DURING A STORM Crews will remove snow as soon as possible with the following priorities in mind: • Clear main arterial roads with the most traffic first, followed by the roads with less traffic. • Clear roads that pose the highest risk to public safety followed by those with a low risk to public safety. • Remove snow from residential areas once priority roads are clear and safe for travelers. • Subdivisions, cul-de-sacs, and end streets will not be plowed until four inches of snow or more has accumulated.
