Counselor Advisory Board Session Inclusion, Access, and Special Populations | Yield During this session, we will evaluate the yield engagement strategy for underrepresented populations to identify best practices, strengths and opportunities to improve our yield. Below you will find descriptions of key on campus events, off campus events, and virtual engagement strategies that we employ to yield admitted students. Our session will delve into further details and data to provide additional context, but to provide a general framework of our existing strategy we have provided a framework of our existing strategy which included program/event descriptions and itineraries when applicable. We look forward to collaborating with you all to identify meaningful ways to enhance the yield experience of underrepresented populations who are admitted to WashU through regular decision. On Campus Yield Events: Bear Day - a comprehensive one-day visit experience for admitted students and their families. Visitors have the opportunity to explore the WashU community, as well as meet fellow #WashU23 members, current students and faculty. Scheduled programming includes an admitted student presentation, academic session and lunch with featured speakers. In the afternoon, attendees can choose from a variety of activities that include residential and campus tours, panels, open houses and more. (See Appendix A for Event Itinerary) Celebration Day - an overnight fly-in visit experience for admitted students from underrepresented, first- generation and low-income backgrounds to explore our diverse and inclusive community. Attendees have the opportunity to meet fellow #WashU23 members, as well as current students and faculty. Travel, meals, and on- campus accommodations are provided by the admissions office. Scheduled programming includes a St Louis city tour, campus tour, Taste of WashU performing arts showcase and late night social activities. (See Appendix B for Event Student Itinerary and Appendix C for Event Family Itinerary) Off Campus Yield Events: Admitted Student Receptions Admitted Student Receptions are fun and casual events for admitted students and their families hosted across the country (and a few globally) each spring. Our alumni association hosts most of the them, but our office hosted 7 this past year. The receptions are an opportunity for students and families to mingle with WashU staff, local alumni, and other admitted students, but they do include light formal programming. WashU admissions and financial aid staff and campus partners are in attendance. Virtual Yield Engagement: Webinar Series: Our #WashU23 Wednesday Webinar series is back and better than ever—check out our awesome lineup. Students, staff, and faculty will be sharing valuable information, tips, and advice that you won't want to miss— be sure to register using the links below! A Day in the Life of a WashU Student This live Q&A webinar will feature a panel of current students who will discuss a typical day at WashU. Topics covered include: • Academic life • Residential life • Extracurricular activities (on and off-campus) • And more! Success While at WashU Joined by current Deneb Stars, Anthony Tillman, Assistant Provost and Director of the Office for Student Success (OSS), will give a short presentation about the OSS and its resources for students, followed by a Q+A. Topics include the following and more! • History and background of OSS • OSS resources (particularly for first generation college students and those who come from low-income backgrounds) • OSS programming • Student experiences with OSS How to Utilize the Career Center WashU's Career Center is available to students at every stage—from exploring career possibilities to actively seeking post-graduate opportunities. Mark Smith, Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, will present on the following topics: • Career Center resources and tools • Programming and events • Outcome data • And more! IMPORTANT NOTICE: We have an extensive itinerary of events planned for you. When you are not at a scheduled event, you are expected to be on campus. Your attendance is expected at all underlined activities! THURSDAY, April 4 All Day Arrival: Arrive at St. Louis Lambert International Airport and St. Louis Lambert International take shuttle to campus. Meet WashU representatives at Airport baggage claim. 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Check-In: REQUIRED FOR STUDENTS You will receive Mudd Multipurpose Room, important information about your visit, meet current WashU Mudd House (#88) students and fellow Celebration Days attendees, be given an opportunity to store your luggage, and make arrangements to meet your host. 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Sumers Recreation Center: Stop by the front desk and use Sumers Recreation Center your Sumers Recreation Center pass and show photo I.D. to (#116) access the Sumers Recreation Center. Noon – 1:00 p.m. Lunch: Eat lunch on your own in a campus eatery.
