GENERAL CONVENTION 2015 Michael Curry elected 27th presiding bishop In a landslide vote, the House of Bishops, meeting at General Convention in , Utah, on June 27 elected the Rt. Rev. Michael Curry (at top left) of as the next presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church — the first African American and the first person of color so elected. The House of Deputies immediately concurred; the vote was 800 to 12. On Nov. 1, Curry will succeed Katharine Jefferts Schori, pictured at top right entering the worship hall on June 28 for Eucharist.
