NOTES 1.Cups of 1940-41, 1941-42, 1942-43 and 1943 -44 when France was under German occupation are not included in this list. They were of lesser importance. Just for info, cup winners at these years were Bordeaux (1941), Red Star (1942), Marseille (1943) and a federal team of Nancy (1944).

2.No final was played at 1992 due to the semifinal disaster with many people killed in Bastia vs. Marseille. No award was given. At the other semifinal Monaco beat Cannes to reach the final.

3.US Quevilly participated in two finals that were 75 years apart, both lost. Only Marseille and Rennes have greater timespan in their participations in finals. US Quevilly’s record of two finals and two semifinals is mighty impressive for a club that never played first division football.

4. Bordeaux won their first cup after 16(!) placements in last 8.

5. Lille could not reach the last 8 from 1960 to 1979!

6. Racing Club could not reach the last 8 from 1961 to 1983!

7. Angers have a timespan of 35 years (1976 -2011) between participations in last 8.

8. 4 clubs have played first division football but never reached the last 8: FC Istres, AS Aixoise, AC Arles -Avignon, Hyeres FC.

9.Olympique de Paris has more participations (7)in last 8 than any other club without ever playing first division football but since they were dissolved in 1926, before the first division era, the y could not have played first division football anyway. Therefore the clubs with 5 participations in last 8 that are next in line in this category and could have played first division football are CA sports Generaux (dissolved in 1951) and USL Dunkerque.

10. Olympique Lillois, SC Fives and Iris Club are the clubs that created Lille OSC in the years of WWII. Together they had 15 participations in last 8 but not even one win! After the creation of LOSC, the club had immediately one lost final and three successive wins! Strength in unity!

11. Lyon could not reach the last 8 from 1976 to 1997!

12. Nimes have 13 participations in last 8 without a win but they also have 9 placings in top-5 of the first division without ever have won the championship. And they don’t even have won a League Cup.

13. Sedan could not reach the last 8 from 1969 to 1998!

14. Cannes could not reach the last 8 from 1960 to 1983!

15. Troyes could not reach the last 8 from 1956 to 2000!

16. 124 clubs have reached last 8 at least once, 79 have reached at least the semifinals, 51 have reached the final, 32 have won a cup. These statistics confirm the giant-killing fame and variety of the Coupe de France.

17. Out of the 124 clubs that have reached last 8 the 56 have not played ever first division football!

18. In the years before WWII, the club with more participations in last 8 is FC Sete! They have 12 participations in 23 competitions.

19. Worst winning ratio wins/participations in last 8: Lens 0/22, Rouen 0/17, Bastia 1/10, Sochaux 2/25.

20. Best winning ratio wins/participations in last 8: PSG 12/27, Auxerre 4/11.
