The Wyoming Chapter is having their May meeting in Cheyenne, WY and would like members of your club to join us. When: Saturday, May 21. 2011

In the morning we will tour the Historic Governors Mansion and in the afternoon we will be touring the Messenger's Old West Museum. This Museum has on loan Hollis Davidson's 1930 Regal 8 Brougham, FD Com- mander along with other cars. It also has a Victorian Carriage, 1800's bedroom, Black Smith Shop, old fash- ioned working Kitchen and plenty else to look at. This is very informal, but we plan on having an evening meal together Saturday evening. Merle Jones will provide us with his experiences at Bonneville. Host Hotel: Holiday Inn, 204 West Fox Farm Road, Cheyenne, WY 82007. A block of rooms have been reserved for Friday May 20th and Saturday May 21st at $79.00 per night plus tax. They have facilities to eat and a meeting room will be available. Reservations: Call 307-638-4466 Ask for reservations for the "Studebaker Car Show". They will hold a block of rooms until 3PM April 29th, 2011. The hotel will continue to accept reservations after the cut- off, subject to availability, at prevailing rates. While the reservations list this as a car show. This is really a "visit the museum" week- end, so drive what you want and don't worry about how clean your car is.

For more information contact President Ellis Black at 307-684-0250 or Merle Jones at 307-514-0189. Page 6—April 2011 THE WESTERN OUTLOOK

I finally took the top off the most recent Studebaker. Jeff was in town, and it is definitely a two-person job. I really like the look of the convertible which Studebaker never built, and I now plan to keep it that way. There may be only a half dozen of these custom convertibles in existence. I have only seen pictures of a couple of them. I am working on

re-engineering the soft top structure, so that I can be less fearful of getting caught in the rain with no top. The guy who designed and built these removable tops had some interest- ing engineering solutions. One was that there was no back side window in the soft top. It went from the back of the door glass all the way back to the rear window.

That is just a bit too much vinyl or canvas. The car runs well, with the exception of the brakes, and I have the new master cylinder waiting to be in- stalled. Then, the wheel cylinders. The engine burns oil, as did my very first Studebaker in 1964, but not as bad. I am going to try a heavier weight oil before I resign myself to a rebuild, which it truly needs. Still a great deal of work to be done on the car. Larry Ramsdell, Conestoga Chapter
