About Engineering College Bikaner Engineering College Bikaner is an Autonomous institution of Govt. of Rajasthan., spread over 200 acres of land and located at Karni Industrial Area, Bikaner. The institution was established in the year 1999 and committed to provide quality education along with inculcation of ethical values to its students. It has seven branches of Engineering at UG level viz. CSE, ECE, EICE, IT, ME, EE, CE. It also runs BBA, BCA, MCA, MBA and M.Sc. courses and also offers M.Tech./Ph.D. in ME, EE, CSE and Sciences. About Department of Mechanical Engineering The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 2002 and 2nd Shift UG started in 2011 and has shown its potential to be as one of the vibrant department of the Institute. It also offers M. Tech. in Thermal Engineering from the year 2014. Presently the department is providing world class research guidance to more than fifteen research scholars in various fields and also working on various sponsored research projects like BiPVT systems and Fire Fighting Drone. The Department is well equipped with all basic amenities and advanced labs for developing critical thinking and logical abilities in the students. It provides industry-oriented educational modules such as 3D Printing, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Mechatronics, AR/VR Lab and In-house Training on designing software, assembling and dismantling of automobiles etc. to the students to make them familiar with the technological advancements and to provide new innovation and application based learning. About Bikaner Bikaner, the land of Royalty founded in 1488 AD by Rao Bikaji, lies on the northern tip of the golden Triangle. The world famous tourist places viz., Karni Mata Temple (Deshnoke), Junagarh Fort, Kapil Muni Ashram (Sri Kolayat), Cenatophs of Devikund Sagar, and Gajner Palace are located in or around Bikaner. You will find that people exudes the very fragrance of hard toil as they challenge the barrenness of golden sand and transform it in a heaven of its sort.. The water table is at a depth of 250-300 feet. For most of the villages located in the arid drought prone region, rainwater is still the dominant source of water for subsistence. Potable drinking water is a serious problem and several villages are still without their own captive ground water source, having to rely on wells and reservoirs several kilometers away.

    DISTRICT SURVEY REPORT BIKANER DISTRICT 1. INTRODUCTION: Bikaner district is located in the north-western part of Rajasthan and encompassedbetween north latitudes 27°11’ to 29°03’ and east longitudes 71°52’ to 74°15’covering geographical area of 30247.90 Sq. kms. It is bounded on the north byGanganagar District, on the east by Hanumangarh and Churu Districts, on south byNagaur and Jodhpur Districts and on the west by Jaisalmer District and Internationalborder with Pakistan. For administration and development, the district is divided intoeight sub-divisions i.e. Bikaner, Kolayat, Nokha, Loonkaransar, Khajuwala, Chhattargarh, Pugal and Dungargarh and eight tehsils, i.e., BIkaner, Kolayat, Nokha, Loonkaransar, Khajuwala, Chhattargarh, Poogal and Dungargarh. Thedevelopmental activities of the district are being looked after by six Panchayat Samities, i.e. Bikaner, Kolayat, Nokha, Loonkaransar, Khajuwala and Dungargarh. There are 874 villages and 219 Gram panchayats. There is one independent Sub-Tehsil Bajju situated in Kolayat tehsil for better administration. The district has one Municipal Council, 219 Gram Panchayats and 874 Villages. As per 20011 Census, the total population of the district is 2363937 out of which 1563553 is rural population and 800384 is urban population. 1. A B S T R A C T The Indira Gandhi Nahar Project (IGNP) is a multi-purpose project which was built to provide fresh water to semi-arid regions of Western Rajasthan and to rejuvenate the Thar region, and it has many positive socioeconomic impacts. IGNP irrigation project has been a boon for economic upliftment of the people in the area and has turned drought affected area into a green bowl. However, the environmental impacts of this new canal water supply have mainly been negative. The economic boon gave rise to many environmental implications such as water logging, deterioration in quality, soil salinity, siltation of canal by sand, water born diseases. The xeric biodiversity of the region is also under threat, to the point of extinction of some species. Occurrence of water logging conditions in command areas and emerging scenario of ground water drought conditions in other parts, calls for judicious management of available water resources.

The Indira Gandhi Canal Project was conceived with the noble aim of improving the living condition of human being and improves the local ecological conditions. Covering almost seven districts of Rajasthan, the canal has drastically caused a change in land use land cover in northern section more. This study focuses on Hanumangarh district, which is starting point of Indira Gandhi canal in Rajasthan. Secondary data from government sources have been substantiated with computed data from remote sensing. Unsupervised classification has been done for the satellite images in GIS environment. District level analysis shows remarkable changes in agricultural land areas and other land use and land cover categories over these years at tahsils level and district as a whole. These changes in land use and land cover in Hanumangarh district also show some negative impacts of canal irrigation in term of land degradation and associated factors over these years.
