Jennings entitled "The Development of Education in the North Riding of Yorkshire 1902 - 1939" The aim of this work is to describe the growth of the educational system in a local authority area. The education acts, regulations of the Board and the educational theories of the period are detailed together with their effect on the national system. Local conditions of geograpliy and industry are also described in so far as they affected education in the North Riding of Yorkshire and resulted in the creation of an educational system characteristic of the area. -

June 2021 Yorkshire and the Humber region Initial proposals summary Who we are and what we do The Boundary Commission for England (BCE) is an independent and impartial non‑departmental public body, which is responsible for reviewing Parliamentary constituency boundaries in England. The 2023 Review We have the task of periodically reviewing the boundaries of all the Parliamentary constituencies in England. We are currently conducting a review on the basis of legislative rules most recently updated by Parliament in 2020. Those rules tell us that we must make recommendations for new Parliamentary constituency boundaries by 1 July 2023. While retaining the overall number of constituencies across the UK at 650, the rules apply a distribution formula that results in an increase in the number of constituencies in England (from 533 to 543). The rules also require that every recommended constituency across the UK – apart from five specified exceptions (two of them in England) – must have an electorate that is no smaller than 69,724 and no larger than 77,062. Initial proposals We published our initial proposals for the new Parliamentary constituency boundaries in England on 8 June 2021. Information about the proposed constituencies is now available on our website at www.boundarycommissionforengland.independent.gov.uk What is changing in Yorkshire and the Humber? The Yorkshire and the Humber region has been allocated 54 constituencies – the same as the current number. Our proposals leave two of the 54 existing constituencies wholly unchanged, and another 13 unchanged except to realign constituency boundaries with new local government ward boundaries. As it has not always been possible to allocate whole numbers of constituencies to individual counties, we have grouped some county council and unitary authority areas into sub‑regions. -

Ryedale District Council Plan 2015-2020 Introduction Welcome to Ryedale District Council’s business plan – The Council Plan 2015-20. This plan is intended to explain to Councillors, members of the public, to partner organisations and to our staff what the priorities of the Council are for the next five years. We want our customers to have a clear understanding of the issues that this Council believes are most important for the next five years. The Council has linked the planning for its resources to the priorities in this plan. We want to focus our effort on those things that will make the difference to the lives of people in Ryedale’s communities, targeting resources for those in greatest need. The Council Plan includes 5 Priorities that will guide the Council as it delivers services for the people of Ryedale district over the next five years, challenges to be met in the next 12 months, examples of the action to be taken to meet these challenges and performance indicators which will be used to manage delivery of the priorities. Also included is a summary of achievements against priorities made in the preceding year. Why have we chosen these priorities? Aim 1 To create the conditions for economic success There is a need to strengthen and diversify Ryedale's economy. Levels of unemployment are low but for those in employment wages are also low, making housing unaffordable for many. The Ryedale economy is currently over reliant on traditional industries that are associated with low pay there is strength in the advanced engineering, agri-food and creative economy and tourism sectors. -

The Department for Transport defines as Station Travel Plan as: ‘A strategy for managing the travel generated by your organisation, with the aim of reducing its environmental impact, typically involving support for walking, cycling, public transport and car sharing’ Over the next two years, TransPennine Express is undertaking Station Travel Plans for the 19 stations where they are currently the Station Facility Owner (SFO). Why Develop a Station Travel Plan? Demand for rail is growing. More people are choosing to travel by rail and demand has risen to its highest point since 1920, and it is set to keep on rising, with predictions that demand will more than double within the next 30 years. This increase means that more and more people are travelling to and from our stations, with cars often being the number one choice for getting to/from the station, either parked up or for drop off/pick up. All of this meaning that car parking and suitable infrastructure for drop off/pick up is becoming a major issue for our customers. -

It is predicted that within the next 30 years demand for rail will more than double. TransPennine Express is at the heart of this growth, with double digit percentage growth in passenger journeys year on year, with a doubling of customer numbers since the franchise was established in 2004. With growth of this magnitude, it is important that alongside investing in new trains, operating more services and enhancing the customer experience, we are considerate of how customers travel to and from the station to access the railway network. -

The report provides a general forward look of current and planned work, as well as other activity. Scheme Delivery (Please note that delivery dates and traffic management arrangements can be subject to change) A64 We have carried out some significant repairs between Sherburn and Staxton recently, and the work will be completed with some overnight closures for the next few weeks. We have been digging down 300mm to repair the foundation of the road before introducing a new high friction surface to boost safety. There are also new road markings and reflective road studs. We have introduced or extended speed limits in a number of locations as part of our A64 Village Gateway scheme. We have not changed speed limits on the local highway network. Other schemes completed or due to complete by end of March on the A64: Brambling Fields Resurfacing – resurfacing of the carriageway at the eastern end of the Malton bypass East Heslerton Carriageway Reconstruction – substantial reconstruction of the carriageway surface between West and East Heslerton. -

Gypsum is a highly soluble rock and under suitable groundwater flow conditions it can dissolve forming caves and karstic features including collapse and suffosion dolines. These have the capability of causing subsidence damage of the type that affects much of the Ripon area. The guide details the processes involved, the localities visited and some of the remedial measures undertaken. Résumé: Ce guide concerne l'excursion d'une journée ayant pour but d'étudier les géo-aléas liés à la dissolution du gypse à Ripon dans la région du North Yorkshire. Le gypse est une roche hautement soluble et, dans des conditions adéquates d'écoulement de l'eau souterraine, pouvant se dissoudre et engendrer des grottes et formes karstiques telles qu'effondrements et dolines de suffosion.
