    Herbert Schwaab This is Heavy Metal: Spinal Tap und ihre Beziehung zur (medialen) Realität des Metals In dem Videoclip zu dem Song Hell Hole, der als Extra auf der DVD der Mock-Rockumentary This Is Spinal Tap (Rob Reiner, USA 1984) zu finden ist, gibt es neben wunderbaren Rekonstrukti- onen der Posen und Manierismen der Heavy Me- tal und der MTV Kultur ein eigenartiges Motiv in der Schlusssequenz: Zunächst sehen wir Bilder der Band Spinal Tap in einer Konzertsituation, in der typischen Inszenierung der etwas weniger einfallsreichen Musikvideos der 1980er Jahre. Abb. 1: Videostill Hell Hole, Die letzte Einstellung zeigt dieselbe Konzertsi- Spinal Tap in Miniatur tuation, diesmal allerdings als Miniaturnachbil- dungen der Band auf einer Puppenbühne. It seems Tony, as a young mobster, got himself into some serious trouble with ‘the family’ back in New Jersey and needed to lay low for a while. In those days, the mosquito invested ‘keys’ (or islands) on the southernmost end of Florida’s coastline was a fine place for wise guys on the lam to hide out. And this was well before the tee-shirt shops, restaurants, bars, art galleries, charming B&B’s and quaint hotels turned Key West into a serious year-round tourist destination. Sure, there were some ‘artsy’ types like Hemingway and Tennessee Williams living in Key West during the late 50’s when Tony bought the bar, but it was a seaside shanty town where muscular hard-working men in shrimp boats and cutters fished all day for a living.

"We have 4,332 applications this year; up from last year's 4,110," said Vice President of Admissions and Enrollment Planning Harry Wood. Marist enrolled 904 freshmen last year, its largest class, despite a na­ tional decline in high-school graduates, a decrease in state and federal aid and proposed budget cuts. According to Michelle Erickson, director of admissions, Marist will only accept 830 freshmen this fall, to ensure students receive adequate housing and have smaller classes. Marist could lose $500,000 in Bundy Aid, state aid given to students, and another $500,000 in Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) funds, if Gov. Mario Cuomo's proposed budget cuts are passed. Because it is concerned about losing some aid monies, admissions is expanding private and corporate scholarships to create financial-aid packages for those students who need help paying college bills, said Erickson. "Marist is beating the competition by creating a competitive financial- aid package in order to attract future applicants," said Erickson.
