10 DECEMBER 2017 ♦ TONE 02 ♦ EOTHINON 05 ♣ 10th SUNDAY AFTER CROSS / MARTYR MENAS & COMPANIONS

GREAT DOXOLOGY: Liturgy Book p. 1 : FIRST: Liturgy Book p. 11 SECOND: Liturgy Book p. 11 BEATITUDES: Back Cover Liturgy Book HYMN: Liturgy Book p. 14 APOLYTIKIA: Tone 2 Liturgy Book p. 16 Holy Martyrs Menas, Hermogenes and Eugraphos (Tone 8) Through penance and mortification, the holy martyrs of Christ - Menas, Hermogenes and Eugraphos - have over- come the disorder of their burning passions. During their lifetime, they had received the grace of healing the sick; after their death, they have the power of working miracles. It is a great marvel indeed that healing should come forth from mere bones. Glory to the Creator, to God alone. Liturgy Book p. 20 KONDAKION: Preparation for the Nativity (Tone 3) Handout TRISAGION: Liturgy Book p. 23 PROKIMENON: Ps. 117:14, 18 (Tone2) The Lord is my strength and my song. Stichon: The Lord has chastised me sorely. : Ephesians 6:10-17 Brethren, be strengthened in the Lord and in the might of his power. Put on God’s armor that you may be able to stand against the devil’s wiles. For our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against the world-rulers of this dark- ness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness on high. Therefore take up God’s armor that you may be able to resist on the evil day and stand perfect in all things. Stand, therefore, wearing the belt of truth. And the breastplate of holiness and with your feet shod in the readiness of the Good News of peace, and in all things take up the shield of faith with which you will be able to put out all the flaming darts of the most wicked one. And take for your- selves the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, that is, God’s word. : Ps. 19:1,9 (Tone 2) May the Lord hear you in the day of trouble. O Lord, save the king, and hear us when we call upon You. : St. Luke 18:18-28 At that time, was teaching in one of their synagogues on the Sabbath. And behold, there was a woman who for eighteen years had had a sickness caused by a spirit; and she was bent over and utterly unable to look upwards. When Jesus saw her, he called her to him and said to her, “Woman, thou art delivered from thy infirmity.” And he laid his hands upon her, and instantly she was made straight, and glorified God. But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant that Jesus had cured on the Sabbath, addressed the crowd, saying, “There are six days in which one ought to work; on these therefore come and be cured, and not on the Sabbath.” But the Lord answered him and said, “Hypocrites! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or ass from the , and lead it forth to wa- ter? And this woman, daughter of as she is, whom Satan has bound, lo, for eighteen years, ought not she to be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?” And as he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame; and the entire crowd rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him. Nativity Fast The Nativity Fast is one of the four Canonical Seasons in the year. This is a joyous fast in anticipa- tion of the Nativity of Christ. It is less strict than other fasting periods. The fast is divided into two periods. The 2nd period is December 10th through 24th when the traditional fasting discipline (no meat, dairy, fish, wine, and oil) is observed. Dispensation for wine and oil on Saturdays and Sundays during this period.
