Brief Industrial Profile of SIWAN District

1. General Characteristics of the District

The word ‘’SIWAN ‘’ means the border in Bhojpuri. Currently it is not located as border district of , but formerly it was the southern border of Greater Nepal that’s why it is called ‘’Siwan ‘’ ,The border.. This district is well known for having the first Indian President from the district, Dr. , born in Jiradei

1.1 Location & Geographical Area.

• SIWAN is located at 25°58′ -26°23’N latitude&84°10′ - 845°47’E longitude. It has an average elevation of 77 metres (253 feet).

• SIWAN district came in existence in 1972, surrounded in the east by , of in the west, in the north it is Gopalganj district and in the south of Uttar Pradesh .

1.2 Topography

The land of Siwan district is alluvial in nature and the agriculture is the main activity of the region and paddy ,wheat and vegetables are grown in the district in larger area of the land

District Siwan has its headquarter at Siwan itself and it has two sub-division and 19 blocks to look after the administration and all rounded development of 1530 revenue villages as well the town agglomerations
