  • A Modeling Language for Multi-Tenant Data Architecture Evolution in Cloud Applications
School of Computing and Communications A Modeling Language for Multi-tenant Data Architecture Evolution in Cloud Applications Assylbek Sagitzhanuly Jumagaliyev M.Sc., International Information Technologies University, 2014 B.Sc., Suleyman Demirel University, 2011 Thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy 29 April 2019 Abstract Multi-tenancy enables efficient resource utilization by sharing application resources across multiple customers (i.e., tenants). Hence, applications built using this pat- tern can be o↵ered at a lower price and reduce maintenance e↵ort as less application instances and supporting cloud resources must be maintained. These properties en- courage cloud application providers to adopt multi-tenancy to their existing appli- cations, yet introducing this pattern requires significant changes in the application structure to address multi-tenancy requirements such as isolation of tenants, exten- sibility of the application, and scalability of the solution. In cloud applications, the data layer is often the prime candidate for multi-tenancy, and it usually comprises acombinationofdi↵erentcloudstoragesolutionssuchasblobstorage, relational and non-relational databases. These storage types are conceptually and tangibly di- vergent, each requiring its own partitioning schemes to meet multi-tenancy require- ments. Currently, multi-tenant data architectures are implemented using manual coding methods, at times following guidance and patterns o↵ered by cloud prov- iders. However, such manual implementation approach tends to be time consum- ing and error prone. Several modeling methods based on Model-Driven Engineer- ing (MDE) and Software Product Line Engineering (SPLE) have been proposed to capture multi-tenancy in cloud applications. These methods mainly generate cloud deployment configurations from an application model, though they do not automate implementation or evolution of applications.

  • Idaho Highway Wildlife Mortality
Idaho Highway Wildlife Mortality A. James Frankman Abstract—Idaho wildlife mortalities on highways and roads is tracked by the Idaho Fish and Game and the data is made available to the general public through an API called IFWIS Core. While the data supplied does offer species information and geographic coordinates, it can be difficult to organize and understand. This paper will attempt to organize and present this data in visual form using Google Maps and Visualizations APIs to show facets of wildlife mortality in Idaho by density of occurance, time of year, and species variety Index Terms—Information Visualization, Idaho Fish and Game, IFWIS Core, road kill, wildlife mortality, Google Visualization API. 1 INTRODUCTION Amongst the rural communities throughout the United States, the only shows 250 of the latest observations, the density of markers on attrition of wildlife by highway collision is a common occurrence. the map make it difficult to distinguish individual incidents. In an effort to better track and understand wildlife collisions occurrences, the Idaho Fish and Game tracks highway collisions that have occurred since 2001. This data can be useful and relevant to several areas of study. First, understanding how and where collisions occur can help prevent traffic accidents. According to the National Highway Traffic Administration 4% of all traffic accidents in the United States are collisions with wildlife[1]. The collisions with wildlife on U.S. roads and highways represent a significant safety concern to motorists. Besides the risks posed to motorists, the affect on wildlife populations is also significant. America’s wildlife is a natural resource, and highway collisions have a negative impact on wildlife populations.

TO OUR SHAREHOLDERS, CUSTOMERS, PARTNERS AND EMPLOYEES: It is a humbling experience to write this letter to you as only the third CEO in Microsoft’s history. As I said when I took this role, I originally joined Microsoft to have an opportunity to change the world through technology and empower people to do amazing things. Many companies aspire to change the world, but very few have the talent, resources and perseverance of Microsoft. I believe this is a landmark moment for the company and for our industry as a whole. Cloud and mobile technologies are redefining how people work and play. Three billion people will soon be connected to Internet-enabled devices; 212 billion sensors will come online in a few short years; trillions will be spent in consumer and business technologies. But it’s not about technology for technology’s sake! It’s our mission to enable the use of technology to realize the true potential of people, teams and organizations. As I shared in my email to employees in July, we will be the productivity and platform company for this mobile-first and cloud-first world. We will empower every person and every organization on the planet to do more and achieve more. And we will accomplish this by building incredible Digital Work and Life Experiences, supported by our Cloud Operating System, the Device Operating System and Hardware platforms. In the same way that we aspired to and achieved our original vision of a PC on every desk and in every home, we will reinvent productivity. This clarity of purpose and boldness of our aspiration inspires me and all of us at Microsoft.
