While they are incredibly different games, using different tools and requiring different strategies, there are a couple commonalities: both take place on a court, and both are considered life- long sports to enjoy. Croquet News Spring Fling: Croquet the Wexford Way On May 6, Wexford hosted a regional golf croquet tour- nament to raise awareness and funding for the Beaufort County AMIkids program. Thirty players participated representing Dataw, Sun City and the Wexford Croquet Clubs. Wexford members were Mary Faas, Pam and Har- vey Geiger, Jan Jones, Gloria MacKinnon, Pixie Sudol, Alan Croquet Sutton and Peter Rehm. The Club Times • 4 The Club Times MEMBER PROFILE One of the Original Wexford Croquet Players hile croquet may not be a widely-played sport (yet!), W those who do are dedicated and devout players. Harvey Geiger is among those play- ers here at Wexford. Like many, Harvey was introduced to backyard croquet as a child, but it wasn’t until he was adult that he grew a serious interest in the game. Harvey bought a lot here in Wex- ford in 1991 and moved here full-time in 1993 after building a home. While there was an organized bocce group in place utilizing the lawn, croquet wasn’t introduced until about 2000, when Har- vey, Andy Shapiro and Harry Moore ap- proached the Board of Directors with a request to purchase croquet equipment. The Board approved the request, and once they had the necessary equipment, momentum and interest only grew, and Harvey and Pam Geiger at Jekyll Island in 2015 the Wexford Croquet Club was orga- nized. Andy Shapiro designed the logo and Don Borrell with the Sun City Cro- quet Club came out to give six wicket lessons. Before they knew it, they had about 20 active players.

The trio of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer finished in the Top 3 ATP Rankings for the seventh time (2007-11, 2014, 2018), the first since 2014. All three players ranked No. 1 at one stage during the year and it was the first time all three ranked No. 1 during the same season. There were five changes in the year-end Top 10 from the previous season for the second year in a row, including first-timers No. 6 Kevin Anderson and No. 10 John Isner, both former U.S. collegiate standouts. The last time at least two former college players finished in the Top 10 was in 1989 when John McEnroe, Brad Gilbert and Jay Berger accomplished the feat. Rubin, from Long Island, NY, joins fellow American teen Taylor Fritz and former world No. 5 Juan Martin del Potro in securing the DBO's three wild cards. Rubin played in the Delray Beach qualifying tournament a year ago, reaching the second round. The 19-year-old Rubin scored his biggest career win in January, beating world No. 18 Benoit Paire in the first round of the Australian Open. He also picked up a number of ATP points with a 2015 Challenger win in Charlottesville, Va. shortly after turning pro. Rubin played a single season at Wake Forest, becoming the first player in ACC history to be named both Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year in the same year. He was also named All-America after reaching the singles finals at the 2015 NCAA Championships. Rubin won the 2014 Wimbledon juniors and the USTA Boys 18s National Championships in both singles and doubles during his junior career, and was ranked as high as No. 6 in the world.
