On Cezanne’s paths PUYRICARD VISIT Avignon World heritage city Avignon is full of history and full of life. Capital of the Vaucluse and the Côtes du Rhône, seat of the popes and city of art and culture, theatre, cinema, museums, big stores and little shops, Avignon is a small city that has everything a big one has! From medieval streets and houses to private mansions from the Renaissance, passing through all its old and enticing squares, some no bigger than a tiny lane... And the diverse dining opportunities, ranging from family-run restaurants, good and inexpensive to some of the greatest Michelin- starred chefs. Avignon invites you for a stay beyond all imagination. The historic city centre, the Popes' Palace, all the episcopal buildings and the Saint Bénézet Bridge are listed as world Day 3 Day heritage sites by UNESCO. Originally the forum of Avenio, the city's name under the Romans in the 1st century BC, the Place de l'Horloge is still the “centre” of Avignon. A meeting place, bordered by cafés and restaurants, the square is always bustling. Just like the Place du Palais higher up, a vast esplanade where you could spend the day just watching all the street performers in summer. Avignon & POPES’ PALACE Avignon is like the hub of a wheel to all the major attractions and things to do and see Provence offers. You will enjoy a visit of the Popes’ Palace, a world heritage monument, the world’s largest Gothic palace, an intimidating cluster of towers, a citadel within the walled city. The attempt of the French crown to establish the papacy here for good, boosted Avignon to become the capital of Christianity for the most part of a century (1309 to 1377). Still encircling the entire old town, there are the ramparts build by the Popes in the 14th century, kept and restored through the ages because in modern times they are still useful as a barrier against floods from the Rhône. The cathedral, Notre Dame des Doms, with its amazing blend of Baroque and Romanesque architecture inside, the splendid view outside from its doorsteps’ esplanade, and the beautiful public gardens of the Rocher des Doms some 30 meters above the river Rhone, dominating the city and surrounding countryside with the famous Mont Ventoux in the distance. And, “bien sûr”, there is the Pont d’Avignon, the broken bridge, only four arches left of twenty-two, build in 1234 and destroyed by a catastrophic flood in 1669. It is this bridge that the famous song “Sur le pont d’Avignon, on y danse, on y danse” refers to. There are a number of interesting museums to visit, such as Le Petit Palais, Musée Calvet, Angladon, collection Lambert as well as a thriving theatre festival in July involving the whole city with up to 1500 different performances to choose from every day. MARSEILLE THE AUTHENTICITY BY EXCELLENCE Meet the Provencal culture enjoying an iced glass of Pastis (the anis-flavoured local liqueur) while relaxing in a sunny terrace or playing pétanque, the very popular boules game from south of France. The warm city offers a multicultural and dynamic background as well as an exceptional landscape all around with turquoise blue sea and mountains coexisting, well known in the Mediterranean area as the “Calanques”. You can visit it by boat on special itinerary cruises from 1h45 to 3hours depending on how much of the Mediterranean coast you want to see. Visit also the lively central Old Port, freshly renew for pedestrian, that gives a touch of modern to the oldest city of France which architecture testifies of 2,600 years of Day 4 Day history. From there you can take a 20min boat to visit the isle of the famous Castle of If built in 1519 by Francois 1st . Capital of Culture, lots of exhibitions, concerts, festivals and events of any type will take place in Marseille so you can be sure the city will never stop astonish you with new concepts and artists to discover and rediscover. DISCOVER MARSEILLE BEST SPOTS ! Le Panier : Notre Dame de la Garde MUCEM The famous Corniche The Oldest District CASSIS DISCOVERY OF THE CHARMING FISHING PORT OF CASSIS Cassis, located at 22kms from Marseille, guests will enjoy walking around this colorful fishing port, it’s charming little streets, terraced vineyards, little creeks known as the famous “Calanques” and the magnificent and imposing “Cap Canaille”, the highest maritime cliff in Europe, which offers a spectacular view of Cassis bay.

Bucarin, Six-Fours, France 4 Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, United States Abstract – This paper aims at characterizing the groundwater flow in a highly dynamic karst aquifer using a global modeling approach based on rainfall and spring discharge time series. The Dardennes aquifer (SE France) was studied as it is used for drinking water supply and it also produces karst flash floods that increase the flood hazard downstream in urban areas. Three years of data were available, including a normal rainy year, a wet year and a dry year. Modeling was performed with the new platform KarstMod, a rainfall- discharge model with calibration tools. The Dardennes aquifer model was structured with three interconnected reservoirs: Epikarst, Matrix, and Conduit. Using this modeling approach, we were able to determine the groundwater hydrograph separation of the karst spring discharge, at the annual scale and at the event scale (flood). This gives insight into the low flow (Matrix) available for the drinking water demand and the fast flow (Conduit) that generates flash floods.
