TASTY TOURS & ITALIAN SENSORY EXPERIENCE Calabrian Cuisine, Culture, & Wine Tour Featuring Celebrity Chef & Cuisine and Culture Expert,Amy Riolo

8 Days/7 Nights: May 8-15, 2020 “Friends are as companions on a journey, who ought to aid each other to persevere on the road of a happier life.” Pythagoras-5h Century BCE Greek philosopher who called home.

Tasty Tours and Italian Sensory Experience are pleased to present a “wine, history, and gastronomy - lover’s dream journey” to Calabria, recently named “’s most delicious secret” by Traveler Magazine. This 8-day and 7-night experience includes a highly-cura- ted, small group itinerary through the region that the Byzantines named “The Fertile Land.” This ancient region was originally inhabited by the people whom the Greeks called Oenotri or “The Wine Cultivators,” and another group, the Itali, whose name even- tually named Italy itself. The 20th century Italian (Abruzzese) poet, Gabriele D’annunzio stated Calabria was home to “the most beautiful kilometer on earth.”

The construction of the Ara- gonese Tower may be dated to the 16th century, at a time when the Spanish Kingdom of Aragon ruled southern Italy. Other watchtowers were also built in this period in order to defend the kingdom’s people from the Venetians and from pirates.

The Tower is also known as “Torre Merlata” or Torrazzo and clearly differs from the other Spanish watchtowers built in the 16th and 17th century. DAY 2
