UCM Jazz Ensemble Auditions - Spring, 2021
Instructions for Online Jazz Auditions
1) Please use the following link to fill out the jazz auditions information form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdOAeFtdMqbzy2HMnVhjMWHli_evaV- T6tTeGZakjSptHyXaA/viewform?usp=sf_link
2) I will be sharing a folder with you titled “Jazz auditions - Spring, 2021.” Inside that folder are folders for each instrument, including pdfs of music and also accompaniment files. SAXES, TRUMPETS, and TROMBONES Please share a video of you playing Etude 1 (Ballad) and Etude 2 (Swing) with me at [email protected] (Google Drive might work best for this). Please note, you are to play the etudes unaccompanied.
Optional: If interested, please also include an example of you improvising (with accompaniment). For your convenience, I have provided changes and accompaniment for Blues in concert C minor. If you prefer sending something else, that is fine with me. It is pretty easy to find backing tracks for many tunes on YouTube. Again, this step is OPTIONAL. If you are not comfortable improvising, no worries!
Also Optional: If you happen to have a short prepared piece that you believe really shows off your abilities well, you are welcome to share that (in addition to the etudes).
DEADLINE: Please share your videos by Tuesday, January 12th at 11:00 PM. Rehearsals will begin Thursday, January 14th.

Please share a video of you playing the following:
1) Rhythm Section Audition Etude (Rhy Sec Aud Etude Sp21). The accompaniment track for that is an mp3 titled “Rhythm Section Etude.”
2) D Blues: Use the “D Blues Voicings” file, and “D Blues” mp3 file for accompaniment. Comp chords for the first 12 bars (bass walk, drums play time), and solo the 2nd chorus (all)
3) Rhythm Auditions Sp21 Bossa: Use the “Rhythm Aud Sp21 Bossa” file and the Sp21 Bossa” mp3 file for accompaniment. Please comp chords through this (one time only) (bass play a bossa bass line, drums play time).
Additional Requirements For Drumset Auditions
In addition to the etude and two tunes, please also play a few seconds of each of the follow (and please announce each):
