The purpose of the Sheridan Project is to provide improved pedestrian accommodations throughout the corridor, while enhancing the compatibility of the corridor with current and future adjacent land uses.
The objectives of the project are to: Provide improved pedestrian access and connections between the communities to the west and the Bronx River Greenway from Starlight Park to Concrete Plant Park to the east; Provide streetscape improvements, such as planted medians and buffers, street trees, lighting, and improved signage; Introduce geometric changes in the roadway in a manner that promotes traffic calming and enhances safety for users; Reduce the vehicular operating speed along the Sheridan corridor while maintaining vehicular access to the community; Reduce or alleviate existing traffic congestion on the Westchester Avenue exit ramp.

Construct a pedestrian bridge over the Bronx River within Starlight Park Introduce three (3) signalized at-grade intersections for pedestrian and bicycle crossings Provide two lane exit ramp at Westchester Ave from Southbound Sheridan Convert Edgewater Rd. to a one-way street, add a two-way protected bicycle Improve landscaping, drainage, traffic signals, pavement and lighting on the lane, and provide access to Southbound Sheridan Sheridan Convert West Farms Road to one-way southbound between 173rd St. and Create a public space at the entrance to Starlight Park Jennings St. Provide parking along northbound Sheridan
