Organ Streams Noon organ concerts have been a tradition on Temple Square for more than a century. However, in March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily halted this tradition. Then, with insight and creativity, in June 2020 a new Temple Square organ tradition began. Piping Up! Organ Concerts at Temple Square uses digital streams on You- Tube and Facebook to share organ performances with audiences around the world. Filmed without an audience but with full COVID-compliant precautions, the online series is now over a year old, with an established audience of appreciative viewers. All five Tabernacle and Temple Square organists—Richard Elliott, Andrew Unsworth, Brian Mathias, Linda Margetts, and Joseph Peeples—are featured. Each concert includes one of the organists performing a wide variety of music, from classical selections to traditional hymns and spirituals. Fortunately, the century-old tradition of daily organ recitals was able to resume in July 2021. Thirty-minute organ recitals are given each day by Tabernacle and Temple Square organists and guest organists. From now through Labor Day, two performances are held Monday through Saturday at noon in the Tabernacle and at 2:00 p.m. in the Conference Center, and one performance is held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Tabernacle. Whether live every day on Temple Square or weekly via streams from Temple Square, you can enjoy beautiful performances on these remarkable organs, which some aptly name the “King of the Instruments.” Watch the Special Alexander Schreiner Episode On Demand The July 28 episode of Piping Up! featured organ music written and arranged by Alexander Schreiner and by by his former pupils and colleagues. The music was performed by John Longhurst and Clay Christiansen, who were both pupils of Schreiner, and they have carried his legacy forward with distinction. Watch this special episode on demand on the Choir’s YouTube channel, on the Choir’s Facebook page, and at TabChoir.org/pipingup. Request Repertoire for Piping Up!
