PRE-SCHOOL AND PRE PRIMARY

JANMASHTAMI CELEBRARTION

Janmashtami, the birth of Lord was celebrated with great pomp and festivity by the tiny tots of the Pre-Primary. Dressed as Radha – Krishna, they gave a traditional touch to the entire celebration. The Pre- Primary courtyard was decorated colorfully with tableaus depicting the birth place of Lord Krishna. The Krishna Jhoola attracted everyone’s attention where the cute little Radha-Krishna pairs danced to the beats of Janmashtami songs filling the air with joy and festive spirit. The students came in colourful attire of Lord Krishna, Radha, and others. They made and wore Peacock feather head-gears. The story of Janmashtami was beautifully enacted by the teachers of Pre-School. Colorful puppets were used to enact the story. The teachers enlightened students with the teachings of Shri Krishna and its relevance in our day to day life. With their laudable performance, they lighted up the stage and mesmerized the audience. The day ended with questionnaire round in which all students participated enthusiastically. It was fun filled learning experience for them.

INDEPENDENCE DAY celebration

On 14 August 2018, the students of Pre-School, celebrated Independence Day with zeal and spirit befitting the occasion. The children of Pre-School celebrated the free spirit of the Independence Day with great fervor and joy. To imbibe the feeling of patriotism, a visual presentation was shown to the students. The students enjoyed colouring the national flag and made a beautiful tricolor. Our young buds took patriotism to new heights with their soulful recitation of ‘Deshbhakti Geet’.

TEEJ CELEBRATIONS

Teej festival is a yearly celebration that marks the advent of monsoon. It is also called the festival of swings. The festival of Teej is synonymous with mehandi - adorned palms, flowers, bangles, bandhani dupattas and mouth- watering ghevar. Young girls and married women wear traditional attire and get together in the evening to sing and dance.

Students of Pre- Primary celebrated the festival of Teej with great enthusiasm. It was a delight to see our children dressed in traditional clothes. A Teej Mela was set up in the school courtyard with different stalls of sweets, bangles, jewellery, handicrafts and flowers. They were very excited and keen to apply heena on their hands and to play on the swings. The event was a grand success and a learning experience for our students.

CLASS I: helpers

‘Helpers’ are the people who help us in various ways to make our lives easier and more comfortable. It is important for all of us to know the ways in which community helpers work. We can also help them do their jobs better if we understand the role they play.

To pay gratitude to them and also to understand their value in our lives, an activity was conducted for Class I students on 21st August in which some of them were dressed up in different costumes to enact the role of community helpers like – traffic police man, driver, police officer, makeup artist, gardener, doctor, nurses etc. to name a few.

They enacted their roles with the help appropriate props. This activity helped to instill in them, respect for all professions and learn to value them better.

ENGLISH LITERARY FIESTA - ELOQUENCE

Derek Walcott has rightly said, “The English Language is nobody’s special property. It is the property of imagination and creativity; it is the property of the Language itself.”

‘The English Language is the accretion And growth of every dialect, Race and range of time, And is both the free and Compacted composition of all.’

Literature opens the doors of imagination and understanding and allows us to see the way others see, to think the way others think. In order to bring the students closer to literature and its universal appeal, the students of classes 3, 4 , 5 and 6 participated enthusiastically during the ‘English Literary Week Fiesta – Eloquence’, from 6th August 2018 to 10th August 2018 in a kaleidoscope of varied class activities celebrating the English Language as a learner’s privilege. Quantum of activities spread over the week like speaking activities focusing on creative expression of children and nurture their linguistic skills. It was a week of flurry and excitement, with the children being fruitfully engaged to hone written and spoken expression and foster the fluent speaking habits in the students. Apart from displays, exhibition of students’ work and theme based activities; it was a learner’s privilege.

The week ensured hundred percent participation and gave young children and learners the chance to bring out their talent, expression and creativity to full swing. The performances of young learners were laudable and commendable.

Class Activity III Step into the Shoes – The blooming young learners of Class III, brought alive their favorite cartoon and fairy tales character from (7th August 2018) the classics dressed on stage.

IV Ham to Jam – Class IV students spoke for about half a minute to a minute on values like friendship, kindness, respect etc… sharing (7th August 2018) their beliefs and views in creative expression. V Prop-O-Poem – Students of Class V were given themes ranging from emotions to nature and had to use props while reciting poem (7th August 2018) on the above said themes. Poems recited were vivid, humorous and commendable relating children with relevance of prose and poetry in our lives. VI Realm of Sports- Students of Class VI spoke about their favourite sports personality. They also enacted their ideal sports personality (6th -7th August 2018) and explained how they play an important role in their lives.

The characters brought books to life and the magical arena was transformed temporarily, into a scintillating medley of imaginative characters, straight from the pages of popular and classical fiction. The Literary Week brought the students closer to the magic of language and literature.

Class: II Educational / Creative Expression

The students of class II participated with utmost dedication and zest in an English Educational Activity. On the theme, ‘If I were a Super Hero or if I were invisible for the day’. The children spoke with appropriate actions, expressions and voice modulation on the given topics. The objective of the activity was to encourage the students to think out of the box and use their imagination creatively. The activity helped in building confidence and public speaking skills. The students participated in the activity enthusiastically and whole heartedly.

Fun with Shapes

Shapes are fun for children of all ages. The children learnt the concept in an interesting way. Different types of shapes (square, circle, triangle etc.) were used to make creative picture composition or simple objects. The students used their imagination artistically by rotating and flipping the shapes either horizontally or vertically to create a beautiful scene. The students made the activity a great success by actively participating in it.

TRAFFIC PARK

The school organized an excursion to the ‘Traffic Park’ located at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Connaught Place on Friday, 3 August, 2018. The students had joyful time learning about the traffic rules. An interesting interactive session was organized by the traffic personnel. The Traffic Park is equipped with traffic signals, road signs, small roads and road crossings and thus the children enjoyed learning about the various aspects of road safety in a play way method. They also watched a short film about the safety measures to be adopted by the citizens to keep themselves and others safe on the roads. Our little munchkins came back much aware and alert about day to day traffic rules.

PRE PRIMARY

ISKCON TEMPLE

The students of Pre Primary visited the Iskcon Temple which is dedicated to Lord Krishna. They did parikrama of the temple and were excited to see the paintings depicting scenes from Lord Krishna’s life. Students also chanted with great zeal and enthusiasm. The little ones visited the Hare Museum, where they were fascinated by the idols of Lord and Lord . The educational excursion was a great learning experience for them.

CLASS I: NEHRU PLANETARIUM

The Nehru Planetarium in New is situated in the green surroundings of the Teen House, previously the official residence of 's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and now a museum in his memory.

To give a flight to their growing imagination about the vast universe and the science of Space, K.R. Mangalam World School, G.K. – II organized a visit to the planetarium for the students of class I. It was indeed a flight through the universe!

To begin with, the students took a walk through the museum where they gathered information about Pandit Nehru’s phases of life and his keen interest in Space science & technology.

The students were spellbound by the number of old photographs covering the walls of the museum, weaving sequential stories of the struggle for freedom and the development that took place in our country after independence.

To add more to their knowledge, the students got a chance to see the models of various space shuttles used to travel into space and gadgets used to make observations and recordings. It gave very informative knowledge about the Universe / Space in a simple yet scientific manner.

The highlight of this visit was the model of Squadron Leader Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian to enter space along with the model of the space craft he travelled and the space suit he wore as a cosmonaut.

It was a very fruitful and enlightening trip that set many young minds aspiring to take up astronomy as a subject and learn more about the intriguing outer space!

INTER HOUSE SINGING COMPETITION FOR CLASSES III, IV & V

With this spirit in our minds, the 72nd Independence Day was celebrated in all its solemnity and grandeur at K.R.Mangalam World School, GK-II on 13th August 2018.

The students of classes III, IV and V enthusiastically participated in Sur Malhaar - a vibrant Inter House Singing Competition, to initiate patriotic mood and promote the rich cultural diversity of the country among students.

The show commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag followed by the National anthem. The School Anthem was sung by the mellifluous school choir.

The Principal, Dr. Sangeeta Arora in her address motivated the students to be the harbingers of a social change to build a new, better and strong India.

The school echoed with patriotic fervour as the students from each house enthusiastically sang with patriotic fervour. We wish to congratulate each and every student of the four Houses – Ruby, Sapphire, Topaz and Emerald for the zeal and exuberance they exhibited to make the event a vibrant display of talent and patriotism.

WORKSHOP

Bully to Buddy

Tanushree Sangma is an Expressive Art Based Therapist and Counseling Psychologist at Fortis Hospital,Vasant Kunj. She began the workshop with a general appraisal of the students. She exhorted that bullying is preventable and consistent discipline can reduce it. Different types of bullying were discussed- i.e. physical, verbal, cyber and social relational bullying. They were told how it affects the mindset of students in different ways. Probable places were discussed where bullying can take place i.e. bus, corridors, classrooms etc. The workshop focused on apprising the students to stand for themselves and learn to say NO.

ASSEMBLIES pre primary D

The students of Class Pre Primary D presented the morning assembly on the fairy tale ‘The Sleeping Beauty’.

The assembly started with the greetings in five different languages. Students came dressed in colourful costumes and enacted with zeal. They were excited to perform their dream world of fairy tales and enacted the same with confidence.

Students showcased their talent through creative expressions, actions and spectacular dancing skills in Fairy Dance and Ball Dance.

The students of Pre - Primary E showcased a well- scripted assembly on the theme ‘Importance of Friendship’. The assembly started with a welcome note followed by a prayer. The story revolved around two eagles and how their rabbit and lion friends saved their chicks from the hunters.

Children came dressed in colourful costumes and exhibited good dance movements and oratory skills. They were excited to perform and were quite confident on the stage.

The moral conveyed through the enactment was ‘A friend in need is a friend indeed’.

IV B and IV C

The class assembly of IVB and IVC was held on August 03, 2018. The topic was ‘Independence Day. The assembly started with the Morning Prayer, followed by the news and thought to bring in the spirit of an independent nation. The students presented a very enlightening skit depicting the sacrifice of Shahid Bhagat Singh and his accomplices which led to India gaining independence from the British Raj. The skit was well appreciated by one and all for its message as well as its entertainment. The skit was followed by a self- composed poem on Free India by Tisha Singhvi of IV-C. The students sang a melodious patriotic song – ‘Hindustaan Meri Jaan Hai!’ The assembly concluded with the National Anthem sung by all the students and was hugely appreciated by one and all.

Class: IV-D

The class assembly of IV-D was held on August 20, 2018. The topic was ‘Eid-Ul-Zuha’. The assembly started with the morning prayer followed by the news and thought of the day. The special talent of some students was showcased as they presented the MOOLMANTRA- IK ONKAR on the harmonium. The students presented a skit depicting how the festival of Eid is celebrated across India with great fervour and enthusiasm. The skit was well appreciated by one and all for its message as well as entertainment. The skit was followed by a group of students presenting a melodious rendition – Eid Mubarak. The assembly concluded with the National Anthem sung by all the students. The students were encouraged and appreciated for their efforts by the Principal.

IV-e and iv- f The class assembly of IV-E and IV-F was held on August 24, 2018. The topic was ‘.’ The assembly began with the morning prayer followed by the thought of the day and the news headlines. The students presented a skit depicting how the festival of Raksha Bandhan is celebrated across India. A beautifully prepared folk dance was performed which highlighted the bond of love that is shared between a brother and sister. Special talent on the guitar “A Hundred Miles” was also appreciated by one and all. The middle school Academic Coordinator, Ms. Bharti Mathur appreciated the children for their efforts. The assembly concluded with the national anthem.

SCIENCE WEEK

Each student of class III, IV and V enjoyed the Science week activity. Students were shown videos on the respective topics and were apprised about the same in the class. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activity as it was a rich learning experience for all of them. The activity got over amidst a lot of excitement and hard work on the part of the students and the teacher in charge.

The students excitedly prepared the requirements and meticulously made their models according to the given theme. The students were encouraged and appreciated for their efforts by their teachers.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY

K. R Mangalam World School, G.K-II observed the Investiture Ceremony for the session 2018-19 on August 14, 2018. The Investiture Ceremony is a solemn occasion where all the young students are prepared to don the mantle of leadership and discharge the responsibilities entrusted upon them by the school. Our school acknowledged the budding young leaders and reposed the trust in them.

The occasion was graced by the benign presence of Sh. Jitendra Mani Tripathi, Additional DCP, Delhi Police. The ceremony began with the unfurling of the National Flag followed by the ceremonial lighting of the auspicious lamp. To ignite in our hearts the passion of belongingness, a mesmerizing rendition by the boards of the school filled the amphitheater with fervor. The Principal Dr. Sangeeta Arora welcomed the gathering and motivated the students to strive harder with a unified zeal for the betterment of the institution. She also stressed on setting priorities and aiming high. The council members and prefects marched sprightly and majestically in sync with the beating of the drums to receive their badges. The captains and the prefects administered the oath with a promise that they would carry out their duties with integrity, faith and excellence. The Chief Guest congratulated the newly elected members and emphasized on the need to be humble while upholding our moral values.

The program culminated with the Senior School Coordinator, Ms. Ritu Sachdeva proposing the Vote of Thanks.

ELOQUENCE

Young, literature enthusiasts of K.R. Mangalam World School, GK-II, joyfully celebrated ‘ELOQUENCE’, its maiden inter-school literary event which brought to life various characters from literary texts across the gamut of English literature. The theme for this year’s literary competition was ‘Bringing Humour to Life’ and the event witnessed cheerful and active participation from more than 25 leading schools across Delhi and the NCR.

The event opened with an interesting twist to the original characters and innovative dialogue delivery by senior school students with their mystical powers. They also depicted the famous works of literature, leaving the audience mesmerized and spellbound. As Nelson Mandela said, “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, it goes to his heart”. In her inaugural address, the Principal, Ms. Sangeeta Arora, brought to the fore the school’s consistent efforts at broadening the students horizons and moulding them as students of a global world. The song “Never say never” left the audience singing to the tune.

The three competitive categories ‘Tramedy’, ‘Tryst with Shakespeare’ and ‘Hot Pursuit’ brought forth the creativity and imagination of the students. While ‘Tramedy’ and ‘Tryst with Shakespeare’ required the participants to use their oratory skills to deliver a tragic speech of any character from English Plays in a comic / humorous style. ‘Hot Pursuit’ was a vociferous delivery to reinterpret the title of a famous English play/poem/novel in a sensational comic manner. The events conducted were aimed at inculcating positive values within the students and lead to a holistic development of their personalities. The esteemed panel of judges included eminent persona from Literature field. The judges were highly appreciative of the event and commended the plethora of talent that they got to see on one platform. They were extremely effusive about the originality, confidence and creativity on display. The Overall trophy was bagged by DPS, Noida.

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by the Senior School Coordinator Ms Ritu Sachdeva who expressed gratitude to the esteemed judges for taking time out of their busy schedule to motivate the students.

ENGLISH WEEK ACTIVITIEs

It is only by introducing the young to great literature, drama and poetry that we open to them the possibilities that lie within the human spirit and enable them to explore the vision and dreams. Keeping this in mind, students of classes VII to X exhibited and verbalized their imagination and talents through a number of activities, as part of the Annual English Literary Week, ‘ELOQUENCE’.

CLASS VII –CHARACTER ENACTMENT

The students of class VII got an opportunity to exhibit their talent and confidence, through the activity, ‘Character Enactment’. The children enacted various characters based on novels of R.K Narayan and Ruskin Bond. They dramatically represented it by speech, action and gesture. The students spoke with enthusiasm. It was appreciated and applauded by all and the children enjoyed the activity.

Bulletin boards are interactive teaching tools. They are another teacher in the classroom. Keeping this in mind, a board activity was also conducted to develop the creative thinking of students, on the topic, ‘Works of R.K Narayan and Ruskin Bond’.

CLASS VIII- NEWS BUZZ

The students of Class VIII participated enthusiastically in the English Activity, ‘News Buzz’. They were given an opportunity to present an interview in pairs wherein the news reporter interviewed a famous personality like a politician, an actor or a sports person. The interview was held in the light of their recent controversies or issues which had social implications.

This activity was conducted to hone public speaking skills of the students and to teach them to articulate while expressing their thoughts and opinions. It also stimulated their imagination and enhanced their social development through asking and answering questions, listening and turn taking.

The Bulletin Board topic was ‘Editor’s Pick’ in which students showcased the works of renowned poet, and the most celebrated playwright, William Shakespeare.

CLASS IX-POETIC EXPRESSIONS

Learning new things is always very interesting. It is like your mind at the same time, battling with your confidence, adrenaline rush and your thoughts for the particular topic, but reciting them in a right rhythmic way is a challenge sometimes. Keeping in mind the aim of the English week, the students of class IX were encouraged to express their creative thoughts in the form of a self- composed poem. The students were given an open choice to choose any theme of their choice. They not just articulated wonderfully on the theme chosen but also used gestures and rhyme for better connection with the audience. The students also displayed the same work on their bulletin boards.

Class x : Tryst with Shakespeare

Apart from exhibition of students’ work, the school organised a series of activities for various classes.

The students of class X presented a skit on the classics of Shakespeare. The show was a blend of stupendous performances, delightful background music, interesting props and costumes.

INTER-HOUSE HOT PURSUIT AND COMPETITION

Relentless commitment and hard-work is the key to success. K.R. Mangalam World School believes in the holistic development of the students and inculcates in them the zeal to surpass everyone, in all fields. This week’s competitions were a fusion of flexibility, imagination, creativity and alertness. Keeping up with the same, an Inter-House Yoga Competition was held on August 8, 2018. Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self and to the self, to attain peace, tranquility and joy. It is a practice of essential transformation. The students of the Senior School set the stage on fire by giving powerful performances for the winning title. Exquisite yoga postures were a hallmark of all the houses. The students left everyone awe-struck as they created difficult postures so immaculately and effortlessly. The music heightened the aura of calmness and serenity around. The first position was secured by Emerald House. Ruby House bagged the second position while Topaz House stood third in the competition.

The Inter-House Hot Pursuit was an amalgamation of inspiration, motivation and humour. The students of all the four houses enthusiastically participated in the competition which was a part of the ongoing English Week. Spontaneity and confidence were the hallmark of this On -the-Spot Competition. Sapphire House and Ruby House bagged the first position followed by Emerald House which secured the second position and Topaz House won the third position. INTER-HOUSE KITE MAKING COMPETITION

Imagination and creativity go hand in hand. The zealous students of K.R. Mangalam World School, G.K-II, leave no stone unturned in having an edge over others, be it in Inter-School Competitions or Intra-School Competitions. Keeping up with the same, on the eve of Independence Day, a Kite Making Competition was organized by the school in which all the four houses had participated. The students made beautiful kites. The winner at the Senior School level was Emerald House, the second position was bagged by Sapphire House followed by Topaz House which secured the third position.

SCIENCE WEEK

The Science Week was a wonderful time to enhance and explore the scientific aptitude of our students as they participated in different hand-on activities. All the students got an opportunity to expand their knowledge in the field of science and technology.

INTER-HOUSE SYMPOSIUM

On the occasion of Science week, an Inter House Symposium was organised on 20 August, 2018 in Multi- purpose hall of K. R. Mangalam World School, GKII. The topic chosen was, ‘Industrial Revolution 4: Are we prepared?’ Each team comprised of two students from class X .The time limit was set for 6 minutes. Each speech was accompanied with power point presentation. Students showed immense enthusiasm in the competition. Each team was judged by Mr Umesh and Ms. Manjula. A lot of new avenues in industrial development were highlighted by the participants. The show ended with the inspiring words of judges. Topaz House was declared the winner.

CLASS VIII INTER-HOUSE SCIENCE QUIZ

An Inter-House Science Quiz was held for class VIII on 20 August 2018. Three students of each house from class VIII participated. The students took part very enthusiastically and tried to answer all the questions. It was an interactive session. Sapphire House was announced the winner and they were awarded with certificates.
