Nityananda, You Will Fall Down.” Romaharsana Suta Lord Nityananda Is Balarama, Who Is the Origin of Maha- Vishnu •Sri Miketana Ramadasa •Guruvan Mishra •Krishna dasa Kaviraja’s brother, took sides with the priest. “These two brothers, I told him, are like one body; They are identical manifestations. If you do not believe in Lord Nityananda, you will fall down.” Romaharsana Suta Lord Nityananda is Balarama, who is the origin of Maha- Vishnu. Krishna’s first expansion is Balarama, a portion of whom is manifested as Sankarsan, who then expands as Pradyumna. CC Adi 1/7 Rama can mean Nityananda Maha Mantra also refers to Chaitanya & Nityananda “Balarama is the protector of the devotees of the Lord. By His divine grace only one can approach the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna, and thus Sri Balarama is the mercy incarnation of the Lord, manifested as the spiritual master.” SB 1/14/28 Anna moya - food Prana moya - life forms Jnana moya - thinking, feeling Vijnana moya - brahman Ananda moya - bliss It is not possible for us to imagine the breathing power of Maha- Vishnu, who is but a partial manifestation of Lord Nityananda. • Found Bankim Ray floating in river • Hadai Pandit Not to keep you out, but to get you in. Anyone desiring to become expert in the service of Sri Sri Radha and Krishna should always aspire to be under the guidance of Svarup Damodara Goswami, Rupa Goswami, Sanatana Goswami and Raghunnaha dasa Goswami. To come unde the protection of the Goswami, one must get the mercy and grace of Nityananda Prabhu. “Today You have accepted me as Your servant and have properly punished me for my offense. The dust of Your lotus feet is not attainable even by Lord Brahma, yet Your lotus feet have touched my wretched body.” Embraced SS with great love Dust of Vaishnavas The dust and shade of the lotus feet of the Vaishnavas have been granted to this fallen soul by the mercy of Lord Nityananda. Adi 5 Kaviraj Vrndavan In the beginning one should very regularly chant Sri Gaurasundara’s holy name and then chant the holy name of Lord Nityananda. Thus one’s heart will be cleansed of impure desires for material enjoyment. Then one can approach Vrndavana to worship Lord Krishna. Unless one is favored by Lord Caitanya and Nityananda, there is no need to go to Vrndavana, for unless one’s mind is purified, he cannot see Vrndavana, even if he goes there. Adi 8 This transcendental Vrndavan is not appreciated by those who are not devotees or self-realized souls because this Vrndavana-dhama is all spiritual. cintamani-prakara-sadmasu kalpa-vrksha- lakshavrtesu surabhi abhipalayantam lakshmi-sahasra-sata-sambhrama-sevyamana govindam ädi-purusam tam aham bhajami (Bs. 5.29) • Brought to Ganges, saying Yamuna • Adwaita Acharya’s house • Met Sachi & agreed Puri “You are a mendicant traveling on pilgrimage. Sometimes You eat fruits and roots, and sometimes You simply go on fasting. I am a poor brahmana, and You have come to My home. Please be satisfied with whatever little food You have received and give up Your greedy mentality.” “Whatever I may be, You have invited Me. Therefore You must supply as much as I want to eat.” “You can eat ten to twenty manas of rice.” “My belly is not yet filled up. Please take away Your food. I have not taken the least of it.” When the rice thrown by Nityananda Prabhu touched His body, Advaita Acharya thought Himself purified by the touch of remnants thrown by Paramahamsa Nityananda. Therefore He began dancing. Madhya 3.94 “Although I am unfit and greatly afraid to submit this plea, I nevertheless request You, Sir, to be especially merciful toward me by granting me shelter at the lotus feet of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu”. • Dwarf who wants the moon • Thief • Caught & put feet on head If you are merciful, I may be able to “I belong to a community of cowherd boys, and therefore I generally have many cowherd associates with Me. I am happy when we eat together in a picnic like this by the sandy bank of the river.” Everyone was offered two earthen pots. In one was put chipped rice with condensed milk, and in the other chipped rice with yogurt. Lord Nityananda sat on the raised platform with his associates & the 7 pots From each and every pot, Lord Nityananda Prabhu took one morsel of chipped rice and pushed it into the mouth of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu as a joke. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, also smiling, took a morsel of food, pushed it into the mouth of Nityananda and laughed as He made Lord Nityananda eat it. When all the Vaishnavas were chanting the holy names Hari, Hari and eating, they remembered how Krishnaand Balarama ate with Their companions the cowherd boys on the bank of the Yamuna. • Raghava Pandit was cooking for Lord in his home at same time • Lord Nityananda made Raghava Pandita sit down and had two pots delivered to him also. There were two kinds of chipped rice soaked in them. “No one can attain the shelter of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu without Your mercy, but if You are merciful, even the lowest of men can attain shelter at His lotus feet.” “Raghunatha dasa’s standard of material happiness is equal to that of Indra, the King of heaven.” Because of the mercy bestowed upon him by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Raghunatha dasa, although situated in such material happiness, does not like it at all. Therefore let every one of you be merciful toward him and give him the benediction that he may very soon attain shelter at the lotus feet of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Lord Nityananda Prabhu called Raghunatha dasa near Him, placed His lotus feet upon Raghunatha dasa’s head, & spoke. “One who experiences the fragrance of the lotus feet of Lord Krishna does not value even the standard of happiness available in Brahmaloka, the topmost planet. And what to speak of heavenly happiness?” Antya 6.137 “My dear Raghunatha dasa since you arranged the feast on the bank of the Ganges, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu came here just to show you His mercy.” Take those two men to My house and I will perform kirtana with them. I will give them today what is rarely accessible to even Lord Brahma. I will convert these two men into top class devotees who will become famous all over the world. I will change the opinions of those who used to bathe in the holy waters of the Ganges after they contacted Jagai and Madhai. From now they will consider that Jagai and Madhai’s association is as good as the association of Gangadevi herself. This was Nityananda’s desire. Nityananda’s promise can never go in vain. • Kamalapura in Orissa • River known as Danda Bhaga nade • Said he fell & it broke into 3 parts • LC said “I’ll not accompany you all into Puri.” Since Your two hands will always be engaged in chanting and counting the holy names, how will You be able to carry the waterpot and external garments? The Stages of Bhakti. Odessa. 2004. Lecture 1. En. I will speak a little about the opening verses of the tenth chapter of the “Bhagavad-gita”. And the reason why I decided to choose this topic ... they are numerous. One of them is that we often underestimate the “Bhagavad-gita”, the fact that we open it and think, “I know everything. Everything is clear – I am not this body, Krishna is God”. You can close the “Bhagavad-gita” and put it on the shelf. But actually, the greatest minds of the mankind have read and re-read the “Bhagavad-gita” over and over again. And we need to do the same, because in the process of such repetition our desire for Krishna becomes stronger and stronger. Krishna Himself explains that in the twelfth chapter of the “Bhagavad-gita” where He says that abhyasa, this method (abhyasa means repetition or practice), abhyasa, or the practice, the constant repetition is the method that will make our desire stronger. That is the very fan which we use to kindle the spark of our desire to go to Krishna. it is impossible to understand where from this spark has flown into our hearts. Only God knows where from! By causeless mercy, we have met the devotees, and the devotees, Srila Prabhupada's books, have instilled in our heart a spark of faith. Abhyasa or the constant practice of repetition allows that spark to ignite, allows us to turn it into a flame. That is one of the reasons why we should go back to the “Bhagavad-gita” again and again and try to read in it what we have not seen before, constantly comparing it with our own experience.

  • Friday Hindu Story
Lord Brahma Brahma is the creator of the universe and all knowledge. He is the first god in the Hindu Trimurti (three gods who are responsible for the creation, preservation and destruction of the world). Brahma grew inside a lotus from the navel of a sleeping Vishnu. He has 4 heads and has the goddess Saraswati as a companion. Brahma is sometimes depicted with a beard. Lord Vishnu Vishnu is the Hindu god who preserves the universe and people. He is the second god in the Hindu Trimurti. Hindus believe that he has saved his followers by appearing to them in other forms. Vishnu has four arms to represent the four corners of the world. Lord Shiva Shiva is the destroyer of the universe so that new life can come again. He restores the balance between good and evil. He is the third god in the Hindu Trimurti. Ganesh Ganesh is the elephant-headed god and the Lord of all living things. He is the god who helps people overcome their problems by granting them wisdom and strength. It is said that the god Shiva cut off his original head and restored him to life by giving him the head of an elephant. Lakshmi Lakshmi is the wife of Vishnu and travels on a lotus flower. She is the goddess of wealth and success. Sita Sita is actually an incarnation of the goddess Lakshmi. She is a beautiful, loyal wife and a role model for Hindu women. Rama Rama is the ‘perfect’ avatar of Vishnu. He is a symbol of chivalry and virtue.

HINDUISM IN EUROPE Stockholm 26-28 April, 2017 Abstracts 1. Vishwa Adluri, Hunter College, USA Sanskrit Studies in Germany, 1800–2015 German scholars came late to Sanskrit, but within a quarter century created an impressive array of faculties. European colleagues acknowledged Germany as the center of Sanskrit studies on the continent. This chapter examines the reasons for this buildup: Prussian university reform, German philological advances, imagined affinities with ancient Indian and, especially, Aryan culture, and a new humanistic model focused on method, objectivity, and criticism. The chapter’s first section discusses the emergence of German Sanskrit studies. It also discusses the pantheism controversy between F. W. Schlegel and G. W. F. Hegel, which crucially influenced the German reception of Indian philosophy. The second section traces the German reception of the Bhagavad Gītā as a paradigmatic example of German interpretive concerns and reconstructive methods. The third section examines historic conflicts and potential misunderstandings as German scholars engaged with the knowledge traditions of Brahmanic Hinduism. A final section examines wider resonances as European scholars assimilated German methods and modeled their institutions and traditions on the German paradigm. The conclusion addresses shifts in the field as a result of postcolonial criticisms, epistemic transformations, critical histories, and declining resources. 2. In the Name of Krishna: The Cultural Landscape of a North Indian Pilgrimage Town A DISSERTATION SUBMITTED TO THE FACULTY OF THE GRADUATE SCHOOL OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA BY Sugata Ray IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY Frederick M. Asher, Advisor April 2012 © Sugata Ray 2012 Acknowledgements They say writing a dissertation is a lonely and arduous task. But, I am fortunate to have found friends, colleagues, and mentors who have inspired me to make this laborious task far from arduous. It was Frederick M. Asher, my advisor, who inspired me to turn to places where art historians do not usually venture. The temple city of Khajuraho is not just the exquisite 11th-century temples at the site. Rather, the 11th-century temples are part of a larger visuality that extends to contemporary civic monuments in the city center, Rick suggested in the first class that I took with him. I learnt to move across time and space. To understand modern Vrindavan, one would have to look at its Mughal past; to understand temple architecture, one would have to look for rebellions in the colonial archive. Catherine B. Asher gave me the gift of the Mughal world – a world that I only barely knew before I met her. Today, I speak of the Islamicate world of colonial Vrindavan. Cathy walked me through Mughal mosques, tombs, and gardens on many cold wintry days in Minneapolis and on a hot summer day in Sasaram, Bihar. The Islamicate Krishna in my dissertation thus came into being.

  • Hindu Interpretation of Christ from Vivekananda to Radhakrishnan
. Hindu Interpretation of Christ from Vivekananda to Radhakrishnan · BALWANT A.M. PARADKAR Th() purpose of this paper is not to furnish an exhaustive survey of Hindu interpretations of Chdst, but to view the high lights, particularly the interpretations of some leading and responsible Hindu figures whose views influence strong move ments1 in the ongoing Hindu renaissance. These . may be indicated as follows : I. Swami Vivekananda } II. Swanri AJdhilananda The Ramakrishna Mission III. Mahatma Gandhi . The Sarvodaya Movement IV. Bhai Manilal C. Parekh } v. Dr. S. Radhakrishnan New Hindu Secularism I Recent research has shown that Swami Vivekananda was much more indebted to tll.e Brahmo Samaj for his religious awakening than is commonly realized. It is from this contact that his warm appreciation of Christ is to be traced. It is signi ficant that -Swami Vivekananda inaugurated the Ramakrishna Mission. after his master's death, on Christmas Eve. But we touch the heart of Vivekananda's interpretation of Christ when we note three things. First, his approach to Christ was not that of a seeker but that of one who found satisfaction in philosophical-mystical Hinduism. Second, he is influenced by a certain historical scepticism, due apparently to being influenced by the Christ-myth speculation of the late nine.teenth century. Third, he viewed everything at all times from the angle ' In the period before us, there are two other outstanding names: Dr. Bhagavan Das of the Banaras Hindu University, and Shri Aurobindo of the Poridicherry Ashram. Neither of these ·gave much sustained atten tion to the Christ theme. Shri .Aurobindo's 'integralism' is of growing East-West significance.

His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaja has devoted his entire life to the promulgation of the glories of Sri Krishna while implicitly following the instructions of his diksha and siksha gurus, His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Dayita Madhava Goswami Maharaja and His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Pramode Puri Goswami Maharaja, respectively. He is recognized by all Gaudiya Vaishnavas as one of the greatest acharyas of this era. His praises are most deserved, as, along with many other things, he possesses a vast knowledge of shastra and its inner devotional meaning with an acute ability to communicate this knowledge effectively to all persons regardless of their backgrounds or predispositions. This efficacy of preaching is largely due to his sincere humility and warm, affectionate character, which transforms knowledge into feeling—an actual taste of the Transcendent. Therefore, while desiring nothing for himself, he has garnered the love and respect of all who meet him, especially of those who are making a serious effort to follow his superlative personal example and ideals. His Divine Grace’s active preaching activities have now drawn to a close and he has entered into internal lila, yet his presence and influence are undiminished externally and he continues to be a leader among men—a stalwart and imposing figure among the followers of the message of divine love of Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
