Gender Identity and Expression in Jacksonville's Existing
Jacksonville Coalition for Equality Business Leaders Sign on Statement: As a Jacksonville business owner, I am writing to ask you to support the inclusion of sexual orientation and gender identity and expression in Jacksonville’s existing non-discrimination ordinance (HRO). All hardworking people in our community should have the chance to earn a living and provide for themselves and their families. No one should live in fear that they can be fired from a job or be denied housing or basic services because of who they love or how they identify. I believe that all people should be judged on their merits and not on personal bias or stereotypes. It’s time for Jacksonville to join cities like Atlantic Beach and local companies like Florida Blue, Baptist Health, Deutsche Bank, Acosta, Winn-Dixie, CSX Transportation, Carnival, Haskell, UNF and Wells Fargo, in their support of prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity and expression in the areas of employment, housing, and public accommodation. Downtown began to regain momentum, with a strong commitment from Mayor Brown, the completion of improvements to several parks and public spaces and renewed business interest in relocating Downtown. There were several significant milestones, including: Newly-elected Mayor Alvin Brown made Downtown a top priority. EverBank announced plans to move 1,600 employees to Downtown, which will increase employment in the Downtown core by 8%. The City of Jacksonville completed several significant capital projects, including improvements to Laura Street, Friendship Park and Fountain, Metropolitan Park, Treaty Oak Park, Shipyards site and the Riverside Arts Market. Jacksonville City Council enacted legislation to improve the appearance of surface parking lots, which will improve the parking experience and the pedestrian environment. -

Independent Education: Great Investment, Greatest Return • FCIS Conference 2010 Dear Faculty, Staff, Administrators, Trustees, and Heads of FCIS Member Schools, We are pleased to welcome you to Jacksonville! We look forward to engaging in discussions about professional development, sharing conversations about independent schools across our state and enjoying the ample opportunities to say hello to old friends and meet new ones. The Jacksonville Hyatt Regency offers large meeting rooms, and the river walk along the St. Johns River is just outside the hotel’s front door. The Convention Steering Committee has put together a program that fulfills the promise of the convention theme, “Independent Schools: Great Investment, Greatest Return”. In these trying economic times, it is even more important that our schools safeguard the great investments our families make by choosing our schools and continue to commit to giving back the greatest returns of graduates who are well-educated, independent thinkers with global insights and an understanding of the needs of the world in which we live. There are exciting sessions for both Thursday and Friday, showcasing nationally and regionally known speakers. February 2015 Community Redevelopment Area Plans Northbank Downtown CRA & Southside CRA Downtown Jacksonville Community Redevelopment Plan July 30, 2014 Acknowledgements This Community Redevelopment Plan has been prepared under the direction of the City of Jacksonville Downtown Investment Authority serving in their capacity as the Community Redevelopment Agency established by City of Jacksonville Ordinance 2012-364-E. The planning effort was accomplished through considerable assistance and cooperation of the Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, the Governing Board of the Downtown Investment Authority and its Redevelopment Plan Committee, along with Downtown Vision, Inc. the City’s Office of Economic Development and the Planning and Development Department. The Plan has been prepared in accordance with the Community Redevelopment Act of 1969, Chapter 163, Part III, Florida Statutes. Annual2015-2016 Report WOMEN’S CENTER OF JACKSONVILLE IMPROVING THE LIVES OF WOMEN Dear Supporters, Donors and Friends, It was with great excitement that I officially began my new role with the Improving the Lives of Women Women’s Center of Jacksonville on April 4th, 2016. Working here has solidified my belief that this is exactly where I want to be. With every Board of Directors community meeting I attend, people speak highly about the wonderful work the Women’s Center has done over the past 20 plus years. My goal President moving forward is to ensure the stellar reputation of the Women’s Center Alma Ballard remains (and to continue the legacy Shirley Webb has entrusted to us all). I extend my thanks to Alma Ballard and the Board of Directors for their Immediate Past President leadership during the transition, and to Laurie Price who served as interim Alicia Grant director for three months following Shirley’s retirement at the end of 2015. 1st Vice President I have already had the privilege of meeting many key supporters during Teresa Miles Lisé Everly the events and activities in which the Women’s Center is involved. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and we presented several events 2nd Vice President throughout the month to raise awareness of the critical issue of sexual Margo Castro violence. In May we listened to Melissa Ross, host and producer of WJCT’s Treasurer First Coast Connect, speak about “the road to gender equality,” during Laura VanZee the 2016 Women, Words & Wisdom Speaker Event. We also honored ten Unsung Sheroes all of whom have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to Secretary improve the lives of women. -
