Title: NZNPA Personal Development Lead Organisation: Players Association Reports to: NZNPA Executive Manager

Purpose of the Role:

The position’s primary responsibility is to develop and manage the NZNPA personal development programme working closely with Netball NZ and the ANZ Premiership Teams. The position will also be responsible for the delivery of personal development services to the players in the Northern Mystics and .

The primary purpose of the programme is to engage, support and empower players to drive their personal and professional development. The content of the programme will be based around the key concepts identified in the report undertaken by Ernst & Young and commissioned by Netball NZ including:

• Personal Identity and Planning - tools and skills to explore who you are / to organize and plan commitments. • Understanding my Playing Contract – knowing my obligations and understanding my contract including support to navigate my professional netball pathway. • Dollars and Sense – financial education about money management, savings and budgeting / on-going funded financial advice and support. • Experiential Learning – exposure to player-led vocational experience every season/off-season (planned for as part of personal identity and planning sessions). • Well Women Body (in partnership with NNZ) - education around female health (eg RED-S), access to GP support, improved team culture and awareness around women’s health (fertility and having a family). • Well Women Mind (in partnership with NNZ) – education programme to improve awareness and conversations about mental health with teams, players and families. Access to funded mental health services (confidentially).

The scope of the role covers working with ANZ Premiership contracted players, ANZ Premiership training partners and as required National League players and retired players.

Key Tasks:

1. Manage the overall strategic direction and management of the Personal Development Program from a national perspective, including: • Working closely with NNZ and the ANZ Premiership Teams. • Managing the annual budget and NZNPA Relationship Manager recruitment process. • Engaging and leading the Personal Development Advisory Group. • Day-to-day guidance, support and assistance for the Relationship Managers. • Organising and facilitating meetings and conferences to ensure NZNPA Relationship Managers gain knowledge, up-skill and share experiences as a group. • Managing the ongoing development of the PDP and its Relationship Managers. • Creating solid and effective working relationships with all stakeholders allowing for the program to take shape and increase awareness of the value and importance of the program, including managing and running the PD Advisory Group. • Developing the key content priorities across the programme.

2. Work with the Northern Stars and Northern Mystics contracted players and training partners on an individual basis to support and guide each player’s personal and professional development. This support will be focused around the key concepts identified above.

3. Provide transitional guidance and assistance for players on an as needs basis in the following instances: • Entry into the professional netball environment (current National League players). • Exit from the professional netball environments (retired ANZP players).

4. Develop and maintain a professional and reputable regional network of external providers who can be called on to provide tailored educational content and on-going support to players in the areas identified above.

Qualifications

Essential

• A related qualification at a higher degree level o E.g. Discipline relevant to the management and personal development of high performing individuals, career development, counselling, psychology, teaching/education, leadership or business/management Knowledge

• Good knowledge of wellbeing issues and interventions • A good understanding of career development • An understanding of learning & education environments • An in-depth knowledge of networking, communication and relationship management • Working knowledge of financial management, tax, insurance and ACC Experience
