OVERVIEW
The physical, emotional, social and educational welfare of the children at St Peter’s is of paramount importance and we have a duty to safeguard this actively. The school will safeguard and promote the welfare of children who are pupils at the school having regard to:
• Keeping Children Safe In Education (KCSIE) (Sept 2016) • Disqualification under the Childcare Act 2006 (Feb 2015) • What to do if you’re worried a child is being abused (March 2015) • Working Together to Safeguard Children (2015) • Information Sharing (March 2015) • Prevent Duty Guidance (March 2015) • The Prevent Duty: Departmental advice for schools and childminders (June 2015) • The use of social media for on-line radicalisation (July 2015) and in accordance with Devon LSCB procedures. This policy is made available to parents on the school website and a copy is also available on request. The policy applies to the whole school, including the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Copies of the documents above are held in the staff area of our school network.
It is a requirement that all staff read KCSIE Part 1.
At St Peter’s we operate safer recruitment of staff procedures. These include DBS checks and compliance with the Independent School Standards regulations.
The Children Act 1989 requires all school staff to pass on concerns relating to the welfare of the children in our care, should we feel that the child is at risk from abuse.
Claire Smith (SENCO and Director of Learning Success) is the Designated Senior Lead (DSL). Lizzy Glanvill (Head of Pre-prep) is the designated Deputy DSL. The DSL also has specific responsibility for safeguarding children in the EYFS setting and liasing with Devon LCSB. Both DSL have received training in their role in Child Protection and interagency working from Devon LA. DSLs attend refresher courses every two years. The entire school staff and volunteers are updated annually.
Jonathan Middleton, the school’s owner, is the designated governor for safeguarding. Telephone www.stpetersprep.co.uk
