Bone China Laura Purcell AUSTRALIA OCTOBER 2019 Bone China Laura Purcell A Daphne Du Maurier-esque chiller set on the mysterious Cornish coast from the author of The Silent Companions and The Corset On the Cornish coast, Morvoren House plays host to two young women who - forty years apart - are both faced with sinister tales of fairy possession. Are these merely stories told by the superstitious and ill-educated or is there something dark lurking beneath Morvoren House? Description 'Laura is a masterful writer, her deliciously gothic stories so skilfully woven that you can't get them out of your head even if you wanted to' Stacey Halls, author of The Familiars A Daphne Du Maurier-esque chiller set on the mysterious Cornish coast from the author of The Silent Companions and The Corset Consumption has ravaged Louise Pinecroft's family, leaving her and her father alone and heartbroken. But Dr Pinecroft has plans for a revolutionary experiment: convinced that sea air will prove to be the cure his wife and children needed, he arranges to house a group of prisoners suffering from the same disease in the cliffs beneath his new Cornish home. Forty years later, Hester Why arrives at Morvoren House to take up a position as nurse to the now partially paralysed and almost entirely mute Miss Pinecroft. Hester has fled to Cornwall to try and escape her past, but surrounded by superstitious staff enacting bizarre rituals, she soon discovers that her new home may be just as dangerous as her last - About the Author Laura Purcell is a former bookseller and lives in Colchester with her husband and pet guinea pigs. Her first novel for Bloomsbury, The Silent Companions, was a Radio 2 and Zoe Ball ITV Book Club pick and was the winner of the WHSmith Thumping Good Read Award, while Laura's gothic chiller The Corset was acclaimed as a 'masterpiece' by readers and reviewers alike. Beaton meets Miss Marple in the second book in the charming Laetitia Rodd Mysteries, which sees Kate Saunders' Victorian lady detective on the hunt for a missing Oxford scholar who is soon to be the heir to a fortune Description It is 1851 and Mrs Rodd has received an unusual commission: wealthy businessman Jacob Welland is dying of consumption and implores our redoubtable detective to find his beloved brother, whom he has not seen for fifteen years. Joshua Welland was an Oxford scholar; brilliant, eccentric and desperately poor. Nobody can say exactly when he disappeared from his college, but he had taken to wandering the countryside and one day simply failed to return. Since then, there have been several sightings of his lonely, ragged figure. Ten years ago a friend spotted him in a gypsy camp, where it was rumoured he was learning great secrets that would one day astound the world. Mrs Rodd uses her search as an opportunity to reconnect with a couple from her past, but then a violent murder is committed and Scotland Yard are called to investigate. Mrs Rodd's old friend Inspector Blackbeard doesn't want to hear any nonsense about gypsies or secrets. Mrs Rodd, however, is convinced that something very sinister is lurking in this peaceful landscape. About the Author Kate Saunders is an author and journalist. She has worked for The Times, Sunday Times, Sunday Express, Daily Telegraph and Cosmopolitan amongst others, and has contributed to Radio 4's Woman's Hour and Start the Week. It combines modern and ancient farcical traditions in thrilling way' Guardian American pilot Major Ellie has crashed his plane in the middle of a desert. Lucky for him there's room for him at the very refugee camp he was supposed to bomb. Teenage Momo doesn't see it that way: the camp is a trap, not a refuge. His brother's missing, his parents are in a rage, and an aid worker won't stop trying to interview him for her book on the Teenage Muslim Mind. Savage, irreverent and deliciously dark, Red Birds is a masterful unravelling of intertwined fates in a forgotten war-scape and a brilliant satire about satire about the absurdity of war and the impossibility of peace. Description From the acclaimed author comes a brilliant, challenging novel about a bohemian family in 1970s London and the consequences of a taboo relationship Ralph Boyd 's first glimpse of 9 year-old Daphne will be etched on his mind forever. Dark, teasing, slippery as mercury, she seems neither boy nor girl, but sprite something elemental. An up-and-coming composer, Ralph is visiting the writer Edmund Greenslay at his riverside home in Putney to discuss a collaboration. In its colourful rooms and unruly garden, Ralph finds an intoxicating world of sensuous ease and bohemian abandon that captures the mood of the moment. Entranced, he knows he will return. But Ralph is twenty-five and Daphne is only a child, and even in the liberal 1970s a fast-burgeoning relationship between a man and his friend 's daughter must be kept secret.

  • Love Songs Press Release
1 THE MOST ROMANTIC SONGS RECORDED BY THE ACCLAIMED AARON NEVILLE, INCLUDING TRACKS WITH LINDA RONSTADT AND THE NEVILLE BROTHERS, COLLECTED ON NEW COMPILATION AARON NEVILLE: LOVE SONGS “With an angelic voice capable of reconciling spiritual opposites-–wisdom and innocence, masculinity and femininity, the sacred and the profane--(Aaron) Neville can pretty much find the soul of any song...(using) that famous catch in his throat to convey the exuberance of unbridled passion.” --Rolling Stone (1995) The sweet soulful voice of Aaron Neville--the most familiar figure of New Orleans’ first family of music--has been brought to bear on love songs since the late ‘60s. Now 14 of those love songs from his most successful period, the ‘80s and ‘90s, have been collected on Aaron Neville: Love Songs (A&M/UME), released January 14, 2003. With the album co-compiled by Neville himself, each digitally remastered track was selected for its power of romance rather than its chart position. As a result, Aaron Neville: Love Songs brings most of these songs, spanning the years 1981 to 1997, together for the first time on any compilation. The album is the latest in the artist-driven, genre-crossing yet thematic Love Songs series which has previously included collections from Etta James, Elton John, and Stephanie Mills and is scheduled to release albums from Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, the Moody Blues, Peggy Lee and more. Two recordings heard on Aaron Neville: Love Songs are actually from The Neville Brothers (Aaron, Art, Charles and Cyril): their Nawlins renditions of the doo-wop classic “The Ten Commandments Of Love” and ballad standard “Mona Lisa,” both from the siblings’ 1981 Joel Dorn-produced album Fiyo On The Bayou.

The album features contributions from James Taylor, Rosanne Cash, Jimmy Bufett, Allen Toussaint, Vince Gill, Mac McAnally, Lyle Lovett, Lucinda Williams, Rodney Crowell, Little Feat and Elvis Costello. Jesse Winchester, a gifted songwriter and musician, has inspired many iconic artists of our time. When Jesse was diagnosed with esophageal cancer last year, Jimmy Bufett and Elvis Costello immediately agreed it would be a good idea to put together a tribute album as a show of support. As taken from the album liner notes, written by Bill Flanagan: “I don't know anyone who dislikes Jesse Winchester's music. It seems to me that there are only those who love it and those who have never heard it. Jesse is a songwriter's songwriter, praised by every composer from Dylan down and covered by greats from Wilson Pickett to the Everly Brothers. Jesse Winchester's songs are like mirrors in which both performers and listeners can see themselves. At Christmas of 2011 Bufett wrote to Jesse and told him the album was coming, a gift from a whole bunch of grateful musicians and songwriters to a master.
