S ’ Have you ever been listening to someone tell a story and been overcome with the urge to scream SHUT UP!? Have you ever been so bored at a work event you wanted to kick someone in the groin? Have you ever been in a car travelling very fast on a highway and thought about jerking the steering wheel to the side? Me neither. That would be crazy. But a character who follows through on those impulses and doesn’t give a damn about the consequences was the starting point of this play. Kimberly is dangerous because she is fearless. She pours petrol over banality and sets it on fire, figuratively and literally. She doesn’t laugh unless there’s something funny. She knows she’s not the PLAYWRIGHT NOTE architect of the body and face she was given. She refutes the falsehoods we’re trained to accept. -

MEDIA RELEASE Friday 5 June, 2015 Aden Rolfe and ABC RN’s Creative Audio Unit present A THOROUGHLY WET MESS A quick-witted radio serial set on the high seas Set to debut on ABC RN on Friday 26 June, A Thoroughly Wet Mess is an eight-part serial radio drama, written and directed by Aden Rolfe. This sophisticated mystery is Radio National’s inaugural podcast-first drama, featuring the talents of Toby Truslove (Utopia, The Strange Calls), Tina Bursill (Neighbours, The Moodys) and Mark Lee (Gallipoli, Packed to the Rafters). THE MYSTERY: In 1872, the crew of the Mary Celeste goes missing at sea, never to be heard from again. The ship doesn’t sink, the cargo is found intact and there’s no sign of foul play. So what happened? This is just what the characters intend to find out. Enter Sophie and Marc Marshall, descendants of the captain of the Celeste. They’ve been invited aboard the Mary Celeste II, a replica of her namesake, to recreate their ancestors’ fateful voyage. Once they set sail, however, it’s clear that something’s afoot. Or afloat – it’s unclear which. Will they discover what happened to the Mary Celeste before they succumb to the same fate? What’s the captain hiding in the hold? And who will the stowaway turn out to be? “The Mary Celeste is the archetypal ghost ship, and despite all the theories – pirates, aliens, seaquakes – we still don’t know what happened. Media Release – Strictly Embargoed until 8pm Thursday 29 January 2015 AACTA AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED AT STAR-STUDDED CEREMONY IN SYDNEY Watch the show hosted by Cate Blanchett & Deborah Mailman 8:30pm on Network Ten Hosts Cate Blanchett and Deborah Mailman were today joined on stage by a star-studded line up of presenters including Geoffrey Rush (AACTA president), Lachy Hulme, Stephen Curry and cricketer Brett Lee to honour Australia’s best achievements in Australian film and television at the 4th AACTA Awards Ceremony, held at The Star Event Centre in Sydney. FILM & DOCUMENATRY AWARDS In an unusual though not unprecedented twist, two feature films were awarded the AACTA Award for Best Film; THE BABADOOK (by first-time feature film director, Jennifer Kent) and THE WATER DIVINER (also marking a directorial debut for Russell Crowe). THE BABADOOK also took home the AACTA Award for Best Direction presented by Hyundai Genesis, and Best Original Screenplay. Despite a duel for Best Film, Feature Film acting awards were evenly distributed. David Gulpilil’s performance in CHARLIE’S COUNTRY saw him awarded Best Lead Actor, PREDESTINATION star Sarah Snook was awarded Best Lead Actress, Susan Prior’s performance in THE ROVER earned her Best Supporting Actress and Yilmaz Erdogan was awarded Best Supporting Actor for his role in THE WATER DIVINER. THE RAILWAY MAN was awarded for Best Adapted Screenplay, whilst THE LEGO MOVIE took home the AACTA Award for Best Visual Effects or Animation. The AACTA Award for Best Feature Length Documentary went to UKRAINE IS NOT A BROTHEL. OUTSTANDING INDIVIDUAL AWARDS Highlight presentations during the show were for three outstanding individual awards.
