JUMP ON BOARD HIGH-PERFORMING NOT-FOR-PROFIT BOARDS IN FUNDRAISING November 2019 PREPARED BY Melissa Smith Director & Founder, Noble Ambition in partnership with Perpetual ABOUT THE AUTHOR Melissa is former Global Fundraiser of the Year (IFC, 2011) and Australian Fundraiser of the Year (FIA, 2011). She has facilitated philanthropic giving across education, the arts and health, and worked with hundreds of donors in Australia, Asia and the United States. Melissa has led four fundraising programs from start-up to established, from Powerhouse Museum and Sydney Opera House in the arts, to University of Technology, Sydney and RMIT University, in education. Melissa has a BA Hons (First Class, USyd), Masters of Management (UTS); is a Churchill Fellow (2007) and a graduate of University of Melbourne’s Asialink Leaders Program and Benevolent Society’s Sydney Leadership Program. She has presented her research internationally in areas including the impact of culture on philanthropy, international best practice in arts philanthropy, and the role of leadership in philanthropy. Melissa’s lifelong interest and experience enables her to understand both philanthropy and fundraising. As a thought leader in the philanthropic and fundraising sector, she is in the privileged position of possessing the practical and strategic skills to support both pillars equally. While mass giving is in decline, major gifts are on the rise, and in coming years we will see the largest intergenerational transfer of wealth in our nation’s history. This undoubtedly presents an exciting opportunity for the non-for-profit (NFP) sector to attract significant support, but also raises questions about how prepared NFPs are to maximise this opportunity. -

(Jacques Lecoq, in a letter to alumni, 1998). 79 CHAPTER FOUR INTRODUCTION TO PART TWO. The preceding chapters have been principally concerned with detailing the research matrix which has served as a means of mapping the influence of the Lecoq school on Australian theatre. I have attempted to situate the research process in a particular theoretical context, adopting Alun Munslow's concept of `deconstructionise history as a model. The terms `diaspora' and 'leavening' have been deployed as metaphorical frameworks for engaging with the operations of the word 'influence' as it relates specifically to the present study. An interpretive framework has been constructed using four key elements or features of the Lecoq pedagogy which have functioned as reference points in terms of data collection, analysis and interpretation. These are: creation of original performance material; use of improvisation; a movement-based approach to performance; use of a repertoire of performance styles. These elements or `mapping co-ordinates' have been used as focal points during the interviewing process and have served as reference points for analysis of the interview material and organisation of the narrative presentation. The remainder of the thesis constitutes the narrative interpretation of the primary and secondary source material. This chapter aims to provide a general overview of, and introduction to the research findings. I will firstly outline a demographic profile of Lecoq alumni in Australia. Secondly I will situate the work of alumni, and the influence of their work on Australian theatre within a broader socio-cultural, historical context. -

Star-Studded Line-Up Set for the 7Th AACTA Awards Presented by Foxtel
Media Release Strictly embargoed until 12:01am Wednesday 22 November 2017 Star-studded line-up set for the 7th AACTA Awards presented by Foxtel The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) has today announced the star-studded line- up of presenters and attendees of the 7th AACTA Awards Ceremony presented by Foxtel. Held at The Star Event Centre in Sydney on Wednesday 6 December and telecast on Channel 7, tickets are still available to enjoy a night of glamour and entertainment with the country’s biggest stars. MEDIA RELEASE: 09:00pm WEDNESDAY 6 JUNE 2018 THE 65th SYDNEY FILM FESTIVAL BEGINS The 65th Sydney Film Festival (6 – 17 June) opened tonight at the State Theatre with the Australian premiere of New Zealand film The Breaker Upperers. Festival Director Nashen Moodley was pleased to open his seventh Festival to a packed auditorium including the film’s writers-directors-stars Jackie van Beek and Madeleine Sami, alongside Australian actress Celia Pacquola and New Zealand actress Ana Scotney, who feature in the film. Most recently, in 2013, I wrote about the security of 45 year leases over the Roslyn Packer Theatre (formerly Sydney Theatre) and James Duncan in The Long Way Home.
