She is a Presented by mumok & FM4 talented networker and always includes artist friends from other disciplines in her exhibition projects. Her circle of collaborators is continually growing. HIPPIES USE SIDE DOOR. THE YEAR 2014 HAS LOST THE PLOT. On October 4, 2014, at 8.30 pm, the four musicians that make up Tocotronic will be giving their only concert in Austria in 2014, in Vienna. Ticket sales begin on June 16, Venue: Halle E in the MuseumsQuartier 2014. Tickets can be bought via Ö-Ticket. Concert tickets are also valid as entrance tickets to the exhibition at mumok. The band Tocotronic goes back twenty years, and has made ten albums. In Vienna they will be including songs from their anniversary album, Wie wir leben wollen—How We Want to Live. One of this musical epic’s seventeen songs is Neue Zonen, a homage to Cosima von Bonin. While the self-avowed “plush lovers” pay their respects to the artist, she returns the compliment with the “soft fences” she has erected in her exhibition and the kisses she blows at these young men—even if they have meanwhile grown out of the training jackets of their youth. Since 2000, von Bonin and the head of the Hamburg band, Dirk von Lowtzow, have been exchanging ideas and working together. They frequently refer to each other’s work, quote each other, and produce for each other. Cosima von Bonin had designed several album covers for Dirk von Lowtzow’s second band, Phantom Ghost, one in the shape of a giant mobile entitled Thrown out of Drama School (2008), which was made for the cover of the record of the same name. HIPPIES USE SIDE DOOR. THE YEAR 2014 HAS LOST THE PLOT. In the fall of 2014 mumok will present the largest exhibition of works by Cosima von Bonin to date in Austria. Opening on October 4, 2014, this exhibition, HIPPIES USE SIDE DOOR. THE YEAR 2014 HAS LOST THE PLOT., will include more than 100 works by von Bonin, who was born in 1962 in Mombasa, Kenya, ranging from her earliest to completely new works. This retrospective exhibition will also show how von Bonin’s work has moved more and more in the direction of installations that increasingly come to take possession of the space they are placed in. Another typical feature of her work is a complex network of relations between the fine arts and music that she has established, including longstanding colleagues and friends in her exhibition projects. At mumok, Tocotronic and Phantom Ghost will accompany the exhibition with concerts, and two further new formations from von Bonin’s circle of friends and acquaintances, Die 3 Ypsilons and The Ypsilon Five, will perform at the exhibition opening on 3 October.
