Carmichael Auditorium The North Carolina faithful long have referred to Carmichael Auditorium as Blue Heaven and the name certainly fits. Located among the tall pine trees at the heart of the North Carolina campus, Carmichael has been home to the gymnastics program since it reached NCAA status in 1982. Carolina recently completed a multi-million dollar facelift of Carmichael Auditorium, which has made it one of the top Olympic sports gymnasiums in the country. The auditorium is named for the late William D. Carmichael Jr., a highly popular figure on campus who served as the university’s comp- troller, then as its vice-president. Prior to the 1976-77 season, 1,200 seats were added to bring historic Carmichael to its present capacity of 8,010. The gymnastics office is housed in Carmichael, steps from the competition floor. The facility also serves as home to the women’s bas- ketball, volleyball and wrestling teams, as well as housing offices for many other coaches in UNC’s highly-successful Olympic Sports programs. The Carolina men’s basketball program called Carmichael home from 1965 until its move to the Dean E. Smith Center midway through the 1985-86 season. Under coach Dean Smith, the Tar Heels compiled a home record of 169-20 at Carmichael. Grimson, President RE: UNC Purchase of Wilson Court/Cameron Avenue Property DATE: March 26,2007 As we are all aware, UNC is in the process of purchasing approximately 2.3 acres of property on the west comer of Wilson Court and Cameron Avenue located within the Cameron/McCauley Local Historic District and the West Chapel Hill National Register District. These lots are zoned R3, residential use, and there are two residences left after the seller demolished four houses several years ago. As residents of this neighborhood, we have serious concerns about the University's plans for the immediate and, ultimately, the long term use of this property. University officials have stated that the University will comply with historic district overlays and guidelines for any structures placed in this area. However, it was intimated that no structures will be built on this property in the near term. In light of the fact that the University has built a parking lot at the west end of Cameron Avenue near the UNC Cogeneration Facility on land which was zoned for residential use and where several homes were demolished, we interpret the language of "temporary usage" and "non structural changes" of the property to be purchased on the comer of Cameron and Wilson Court to mean "Parking Lot." It is our understanding that the University was not required to request a re-zoning of the property involved on the west end of Cameron Avenue as no structures were built at that location and wonder if this will apply to land situated in our historic district.

(theACC.com) — The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced pre-seeds and brackets for the 2021 ACC Wrestling Championship, which will be held this Sunday (Feb. 28) at NC State’s Reynolds Coliseum. The host and two-time defending champions Wolfpack leads with four wrestlers seeded No. 1 in their respective weight class brackets. Pitt follows with three No. 1 seeds, while regular-season dual champion Virginia Tech earned two and North Carolina one. Seeds were determined by a vote of the league’s six head coaches. Each weight class champion and runner-up at the 2021 ACC Championship will earn All-ACC recognition. In addition to ACC honors, student-athletes will be vying for berths and seeding in the 2021 NCAA Wrestling Championships, which will be held March 18-20 at Enterprise Center in St. Louis. The ACC has been awarded 33 automatic berths and is hopeful of earning several more at-large selections.
