Nirodbaran Talks with Sri Aurobindo 01
Talks with Sri Aurobindo Volume 1 by Nirodbaran Sri Aurobindo Ashram Pondicherry NOTE These talks are from my notebooks. For several years I used to record most of the conversations which Sri Aurobindo had with us, his attendants, and a few others, after the accident to his right leg in November 1938. Besides myself, the regular participants were: Purani, Champaklal, Satyendra, Mulshankar and Dr. Becharlal. Occasional visitors were Dr. Manilal, Dr. Rao and Dr. Savoor. As these notes were not seen by Sri Aurobindo himself, the responsibil- ity for the Master's words rests entirely with me. I do not vouch for absolute accuracy, but I have tried my best to reproduce them faithfully. I have made the same attempt for the remarks of the others. NIRODBARAN i PREFACE The eve of the November Darshan, 1938. The Ashram humming with the ar- rival of visitors. On every face signs of joy, in every look calm expectation and happiness. Everybody has retired early, lights have gone out: great occa- sion demands greater silent preparation. The Ashram is bathed in an atmos- phere of serene repose. Only one light keeps on burning in the corner room like a midnight vigil. Sri Aurobindo at work as usual. A sudden noise! A rush and hurry of feet breaking the calm sleep. 2:00 a.m. Then an urgent call to Sri Aurobindo's room. There, lying on the floor with his right knee flexed, is he, clad in white dhoti, upper body bare, the Golden Purusha. The Mother, dressed in a sari, is sitting beside him. -

When our families embarked upon this journey, we never imagined the potential for Gord’s telling of Chanie’s story to create a national movement that could further reconciliation and help to build a better Canada. We truly believe it’s so important for all Canadians to understand the true history of Indigenous people in Canada; including the horrific truths of what happened in the residential school system, and the strength and resilience of Indigenous culture and peoples. It’s incredible to reflect upon the beautiful gifts both Chanie & Gord were able to leave us with. On behalf of both the Downie & Wenjack families -- Chi miigwetch, thank you for joining us on this path. We are stronger together. In Unity, MIKE DOWNIE & HARRIET VISITOR Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund 3 Introduction The Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund (DWF) is part of Gord Downie’s legacy and embodies his commitment, and that of his family, to improving the lives of Indigenous peoples in Canada. In collaboration with the Wenjack family, the goal of the Fund is to continue the conversation that began with Chanie Wenjack’s residential school story, and to aid our collective reconciliation journey through a combination of awareness, education and connection. Our Mission Inspired by Chanie’s story and Gord’s call to action to build a better Canada, the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund (DWF) aims to build cultural understanding and create a path toward reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. -
Big Bang – Shout out to the World!
Big Bang – Shout Out To The World! (English Translation) [2009] Shout out to the World: TOP “I came here because of that string of hope. Where do I stand now? I ask myself this but even I don’t have a specific answer yet. During the process where I search for my other self, all my worries will fade away because I must find the person who will lend his shoulders to me.” ~TOP Name: Choi Seung-hyun Date of Birth: November 4, 1987 Skills: Rap, Writing lyrics, Beatbox *Starred in the KBS Drama, ‘I am Sam’ The power to awaken a soul, sometimes it takes pain to be re-born. [~ Pt.One~] -I once wanted to be a lyric poet that composed and recited verses.- I became mesmerized with ‘Hip-Hop’ music when I was in Grade 5. I went crazy for this type of music because I listened to it all day and carefully noted all the rap lyrics. If we have to talk about Hip-Hop music, I have to briefly talk about the roots of American Hip-Hop. When I first started listening to Hip-Hop, it was divided up into East Coast and West Coast in America. Wu Tang Clan and Notorius B.I.G. represented the East Coast (New York) scene and they focused largely on the rap and the lyrics, while representing the West Coast (LA) was 2Pac who focused more on the melody. Although at that time in Korea and from my memory, more people listened to West Coast hip hop but I was more into the East Coast style. -

Younger (1962–2018) Illustration from a manuscript of Liber divinorum operum by Hildegard of Bingen, early thirteenth century THE WAY July 2018 Foreword 5–6 Striving for Perfection or Growing into Fruitfulness? 7–17 Christopher Chapman Any understanding of spiritual growth will be influenced by the images chosen to illustrate it. Is this growth more like climbing a ladder to ever-higher states of perfection, or slowly unfolding as a developing organism does? Christopher Chapman explores this question in terms of four stages of organic growth. The Light of Consciousness and the Light of Christ 19–30 Meredith Secomb Meredith Secomb is a clinical psychologist who has reflected deeply on the challenge of human suffering. In supporting her clients as they deal with difficult experiences, she has found that by sitting with these experiences in silence they find a luminous core within themselves, and that this in turn leads them to God. Here she describes this process, and considers its meaning. St Teresa of Jesus, Mental Prayer and the Humanity of Jesus 31–39 Joanna Farrugia St Teresa of Ávila advocated mental prayer for her Carmelite sisters at a time when this laid women open to suspicion from the Church authorities. Joanna Farrugia explains why this was important to Teresa, and how it was inextricably linked for her to a life dedicated to loving service of others. -

Gaining and Maintaining Brand Loyalty Through the Lens of K-Pop
Just Right: Gaining and Maintaining Brand Loyalty Through the Lens of K-Pop by Panisa Sermchaiwong Thesis Advisor: Anocha Aribarg A senior thesis submitted in fulfillment of the requirements of the Michigan Ross Senior Thesis Seminar (BA 480), (4/22/2021). Abstract Understanding how to build, maintain, and utilize brand loyalty is essential in today’s business world. Given increasing competition for a customer’s limited attention span, learning how to foster brand loyalty among customers gives a business considerable competitive advantage. This research will examine the impact of firm-level marketing techniques employed by the Korean music industry on consumer brand loyalty. In-depth interviews of K-Pop consumers were conducted in tandem with an online survey amongst a pool of randomly selected, consistent K-Pop consumers to gauge the effects of 1) gamification marketing techniques and 2) exclusive ecosystem marketing techniques on building consumer brand loyalty. The effects will be analyzed using: 1) a thematic analysis of the interview transcripts, and 2) a mediated correlational analysis with firm-level tactics of gamification and exclusive ecosystem as the independent variables, brand loyalty as the dependent variable, and brand community as the mediator variable. Findings from this research will determine whether marketing tactics employed by players in the Korean music industry are effective on customers, and if so, provide incentive for other businesses to pursue similar tactics to build loyalty for their own brands. The Political Economy of Development in the Middle East
CHAPTER 3 The Political Economy of Development in the Middle East Melani Cammett and Ishac Diwan he Arab Spring has highlighted the profound economic grievances of citizens in Middle Eastern countries. Indistribute the ongoing uprisings, protestors have condemned their leaders for the lack of jobs, unequal distribution of Twealth, and crony capitalist networks acrossor the region, among other things. To be sure, the Arab protests and revolutions—like all social movements—have resulted from more than economic injustices, whether real or perceived. Economic factors, however, constitute a necessary component of any explanation for the Arab Spring. At a minimum, an understanding of the political economies of Middle East and North African (MENA) countriespost, suggests that it is difficult to separate the economic and political roots of the uprisings. Despite broad similarities in the economic challenges facing MENA countries, including high youth unemployment, limited opportunities for socioeconomic advancement, eroding systems of social protection, and underperforming econ- omies,1 copy, the precise nature and causes of economic problems vary from country to country. Thus, it is vital to establish a clear picture of cross-national variation in the political economies of the MENA countries. The Middle East encompasses notcountries with widely divergent economic structures and development trajectories. It is home to some of the richest countries in the world, including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the other oil-rich monarchies of the Gulf, and some of the poorest, such as Yemen, where poverty is on par with some Do sub-Saharan African countries. In the UAE, oil wealth helped to fuel a massive real estate boom, including the construction of an indoor ski slope and hotels built on man-made islands in the shape of a palm tree. -

The Origin of English Words
Journal of Language and Linguistic Studies Vol.3, No.1, April 2007 The Eastern Origin of English Words Ömer Şekerci [email protected] Abstract Etymology is a branch of linguistics describing the origin of words, their change and development. To-day the far reaching advances in linguistics and in ELT and EFL oblige us, teachers of English to know well not only the language itself but about the language as well. So are they for the English vocabulary. This paper explains the reasons for the percentage of borrowings in the English language. Explanations for this should be sought in the eventful history of England. If to summarize the origin of the English vocabulary, it can be roughly called Anglo-Saxon, Norman, Scandinavian and French. However, the borrowings are not confined only to these languages. There are borrowings from Arabic, Turkish, Indian and many others. Some of the borrowings have been fully adapted to the phonetic system of the English language, while others look and sound as loan words. The English language can be regarded as the most hospitable language in the world. Key Words: Eastern origin words, loan words, origin, teaching of foreign language, vocabulary Özet Dilbiliminin bir alt kolu olan etimoloji; sözcüklerin kökenlerini, değişimlerini ve gelişimlerini inceler.
