Subject: Integrated Transport Strategy for Norfolk & Suffolk Report to: Executive Leadership Team 24 September 2018 Economic Development Committee 8 October 2018 Report by: David Glason – Development Director SUBJECT MATTER The Integrated Transport Strategy for Norfolk and Suffolk. RECOMMENDATION Members are recommended to note the contents of this report and the published Integrated Transport Strategy for Norfolk & Suffolk and its relevance to the borough of Great Yarmouth. 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 The Norfolk and Suffolk Local Transport Board (New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership) published its ‘Integrated Transport Strategy for Norfolk and Suffolk: A Strategy for Growth and Opportunity’ in May 2018. The document is attached to this report or can be viewed at: https://newanglia.co.uk/wp- content/uploads/2018/07/ITS-FINAL-280618.pdf 1.2 This Strategy is intended to set out the key transport requirements for the two counties, and can influence the priority and resources devoted to particular projects. A number of the proposal themes relate directly to the borough, and the Borough Council is identified as one of the delivery partners for the Strategy. 1.3 This Strategy will also sit above and shape the emerging Great Yarmouth Transport Strategy which Members will also be considering at this meeting. 2. BACKROUND 2.1 The Norfolk and Suffolk Local Transport Board acts on behalf of the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership (NALEP) to provide strategic guidance and leadership on transport matters, produce the Integrated Transport Strategy, manage related stakeholder engagement, produce a work programme of individual transport schemes, and provide recommendations on priorities for funding. 2.2 The Local Transport Board comprises a wide range of transport providers and agencies, groups representing businesses, together with NALEP, Department for Transport and the two County Councils. -

Lincolnshire Marsh and Geological Significance: Notable Coast (provisional) General geological character: The solid geology of the Lincolnshire Marsh and Coast Natural Area is bminated by Cretaceous chalk (approximately 97-83 Ma) although the later Quaternary deposits (the last 2 Ma) give thc area its overall. charactcr. 'The chalk is only well exposed on thc south bank of the Humber, where quarries and cuttings providc exposures of the Upper Cretaceous Chalk. 'me chalk is a very pure limestone deposited on the floor of a tropical sea. During Quaternary timcs, the area was glaciated on several occasions and as a result the area is covered by a variety of glacial deposits, representing an unknown number of glacial ('lcc Age') and interglacial phases. rhe glacial deposits consist mainly of sands, gravels and clays in variable thicknesses. These are derived primarily from the erosion of surrounding bedrock and therefore tend to have similar lithological characteristics, usually with a high chalk content. The glacial deposits are particularly important because of the controversy surrounding their correlation with the timing and sequence in other parts of England, especially East Anglia. The Quaternary deposits are well exposed in coastal cliffs of the area. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract The ice flow path and dynamic behaviour of the British-Irish Ice Sheet has been subject to renewed interest and controversy in recent years. Early studies in eastern England argued for interaction with Fennoscandian ice onshore in Britain, instigating re-examination of the sedimentology and provenance of many Pleistocene till successions. These studies instead supported an exclusively British provenance, and are used to predict southward advance of a broadly coast parallel North Sea Lobe. Quantitative lithological and palynological analysis of the Pleistocene till succession in Holderness, East Yorkshire, however, remains to be carried out. We examined the lithologically diverse Skipsea Till in order to reconstruct ice flow pathways to the Holderness coast during the Pleistocene, thereby constraining which areas of substrate were subglacially eroded and entrained prior to deposition. The till yields a diverse range of soft, low-durability and uniquely British allochthonous material, including Permian Magnesian Limestone, Carboniferous limestone and coal, and Carboniferous pollen and spore assemblages that would be unlikely to survive polyphase reworking.
