Convener Scope and Programme Due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has virtually gripped the globe, gathering of researchers to share individual views with others has not been possible for the last couple of months. So far, we are not sure whether the situation would be favourable in the coming months. Under these prevailing circumstances, we would like to provide a virtual platform to the young research scholars to present their research works before wide class researchers working in various fields of Mathematics and its applications. Moreover, our aim is to provide an opportunity to the researchers working in various fields of mathematics to exchange their scientific thoughts with each other through this webinar. The major areas to be covered in the Webinar includes Algebra, Analysis, Topology, Geometry, Mechanics, Optimization and Operations Research, Discrete Mathematics, Mathematical Physics and other topics related to mathematical sciences. The Webinar will consist of invited talks on emerging fields of research, invited talks on popular topics and presentation of research papers. It has now emerged as the second largest public university (in terms of student’s enrolment) in the state of West Bengal, containing thirty-five post-graduate departments, and feeding and nourishing more than 230 affiliating colleges spread over three adjourning districts. The University is located in Burdwan, a rapidly growing town situated 100 km north-west of the state capital, Kolkata. The academic campus of the University, sprawling over 316 acres’ of area in Golapbag, is full of natural bio- diversity and has remained serene over the years. The university offers Certificate, Diploma, Honours, Post Graduate, M. Phil and Doctoral Programmes in diverse disciplines. Over 4000 students’ study different post- graduate courses and more than 500 research scholars pursue research works in the academic campus, while the number of students in the under-graduate courses is over two lakh. From its inception, the university has been giving utmost importance to the researches in basic sciences, humanities and commerce. The tireless efforts of the dedicated teachers of this university have brought about majority of the post-graduate departments under the support UGC Special Assistance Programme. At present, five departments are recognized as UGC CAS. All the core science departments have been continuously earning support from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India under FIST programme for the last two decades or so. Currently, the university is carrying out the Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence (PURSE) Phase 2 programme. Apart from those Programmes, a reasonable amount of fund has been mobilized in the last five years through individual’s research and development projects funded by almost all the central and state funding agencies. The university has been consistently doing well in basic and fundamental researches. However, of late, with the availability of some high-end modern equipment, researches in cutting-edge technology have received a great impetus. The University has occupied 23rd position in Nature Index Annual Table 2020 for Physical Science. In ‘India’s Top 150 government universities league table’ of EW India Government University Rankings 2020-21, the university has secured 61st rank. About the Department The Department of Mathematics started its journey from the inception of the University. It has excellent records of teaching and research. Based on its performance, the University Grants Commission of India has identified the Department for Special Assistance Programme DSA (Phase –I). Currently, the Department is supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India under FIST (Phase 3) programme. For the last twenty years, the Department has been receiving financial assistance for Departmental Library from National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM), India.
