  • Gazzetta Del Carre's
Gazzetta Del Carre’s Issue 4 September 2007 Carre’s Grammar School Sports College Sporting Newsletter End of an era! Old Boys Cricket: The annual Old Boys Cricket fixture took place on Wednesday 18th July. This annual fixture sees the schools current first eleven take on a selection of past pupils at the Sleaford ground on London Road. With a poor weather forecast threatening to hamper proceedings, The Old Boys went out to bat first. The opening pair of Andrew Scott and Graham Rickett, made good progress until Joe Braithwaite steamed in with an unplayable delivery and skittled his wickets for 17. Grahame quickly followed next over, being clean bowled for 13 by Adam Bloomfield. This saw James Smith come to the crease and steady the ship, putting on 45 runs before he too met his demise at the hands of Luke Endley. After the allotted twenty five overs the Old Boys had managed to reach 109 runs and everyone headed in for tea. Unfortunately, it was at this time the heavens decided to open to such an extent that the game was abandoned. Colin White shares a joke with his family as his team ‘Chalky’s Bite’ play on. The end of the Summer term was an emotional one for Carre’s as it saw the retirement of one of its longest serving members of staff, Mr. Colin White. Colin has been at the school for thirty five years, after originally agreeing to a one year placement. The two teams, one managed by Colin and the other by Andy Wilkinson, were made up from existing Carre’s staff and several ‘ringers’ brought in by each manager.

  • Marist Brothers Cricket Club
MARIST BROTHERS CRICKET CLUB YEARBOOK 2015/16 98th Season President’s Report Another season has come and gone and yet again the club has again enjoyed various successes both on and off the field. The season kicked off with the club hosting the inaugural 16.8 tournament on the October long weekend to give players a hit before the season commenced. This weekend was a tremendous success for the club with all feedback from competing sides being positive. It would be remiss of me to mention the success of the weekend without acknowledging the hours of work put in by Luke Collings and Brad Cleaver along with various other volunteers who made sure the weekend went off without a hitch (also to Gabs who’s house became one of the main meeting points for a few months there). It’s looking like being back even bigger and better this year so get involved, as a player or volunteer, and enjoy the weekend. Unconfirmed rumours suggest there may even be a DJ this year?!?! 4th grade entered the season with a whole lot of enthusiasm with strong attendance at pre-season training, looking to go one better than last year. Unfortunately for the lads the season didn’t quite go as planned with inconsistent player availability through the club often meaning they were the worst hit. It’s a credit to the guys who turned up every week and our junior strength that they remained competitive and only just missed the finals (through some suspect dealings from Norths). Again trying to keep our wealth of junior numbers involved and progressing through the senior ranks, we decided to enter two teams into the 3rd grade competition.

Compared with The Belvederian or The Clongownian (which can boast its hundreth), it is far too young to have established a tradition and reflects a school which is still changing and developing. By the time the eleventh issue is published the physical structure of the College itself will, all going well, have changed considerably. It will be time, perhaps, to add the next chapter to Fr Bill Lee’s history of Gonzaga.
