Аа You Believe Them When They Whis who do you think you are? who do you think these companies think you are? you believe them when they whisper to you about this untouchable empire, like "it's okay...they were born to die... we weren't..." ? you think you'll never ever be in front of someone from another part of the world and have to say "i am so. so. sorry." i said why do you think you've been making me stressed? you said i don't know. because you didn't feel free to contact me when you wanted to i said it did. i didn't and a little later i decided maybe to stop fighting it. when looking for the parts of the IM conversation to paste here i looked at our first IM conversation from eighteen days after we started dating it was nonsense and ecstatic and i see what you mean about us being functional and pendulous i've got a little fight left in me yet i'll watch my old tapes with my new body and aim to talk and fuck like they've never been done before if you know what i mean friendship burst "Plant the Tree of Friendship for It Brings Forth Boundless Joy. Uproot the Saplings of Enmity for It Summons Countless Sorrows." when i got into daniel johnston partially because you liked him so much you left a video singing "true love will find you in the end" for a time, i had thought that this was the end and it was you but i was just excited it was a profound, frenzied excitement i asked mike what he thought i think he looked away or shook his head i was eighteen becoming your friends when i got into daniel johnston partially because you liked him so much you can make it different you can make it what you want you don't have to die like that we can find what was wrong! and we can take it back from them! if we can get along i promise there's another place there are no guns viscera eyes a perfect circle lullaby human nature a response to text games like "Mortal Kombat" (2011) and "Twisted Metal" (2012) by doing away with numbers or subtitles display their status as creative reboots of their respective franchises but accomplish also a reboot of one's evaluation of their titles Twisted Metal 2 is just the second game in the Twisted Metal franchise it came out in 1996 Twisted Metal 3 is just the third game in the Twisted Metal franchise it came out in 1997 but staring at a box with TWISTED METAL on the front of it and seeing an orgy of exploding battle cars is different TWISTED METAL means the wreckage of those vehicles, the circusrock soundtrack, means the existence of the serial killer main character Sweet Tooth "Twisted" "Metal" not "'Twisted Metal' (+) '6'" so if humans let go of trying to number existence (years “For when established identities become outworn or unfinished ones threaten to remain incomplete, special crises compel men to wage holy wars, by the cruellest means, against those who seem to question or threaten their unsafe ideological bases.” Erik Erikson (1956), “The Problem of Ego Identity”, p. 114 “In games it’s very difficult to portray complex human relationships. Likewise, in movies you often flit between action in various scenes. That’s very difficult to do in games, as you generally play a single character: if you switch, it breaks immersion. The fact that most games are first-person shooters today makes that clear. Stories in which the player doesn’t inhabit the main character are difficult for games to handle.” Hideo Kojima Simon Parkin (2014), “Hideo Kojima: ‘Metal Gear questions US dominance of the world”, The Guardian iii AGRADECIMENTOS Por começar quero desde já agradecer o constante e imprescindível apoio, compreensão, atenção e orientação dos Professores Jean Rabot e Clara Simães, sem os quais este trabalho não teria a fruição completa e correta. MBMBaM 469: Face 2 Face: The DEEP Pepperoni July 22nd, 2019 Listen here on TheMcElroy.family Intro (Bob Ball): The McElroy brothers are not experts, and their advice should never be followed. Travis insists he's a sexpert, but if there's a degree on his wall, I haven't seen it. Also, this show isn't for kids, which I mention only so the babies out there will know how cool they are for listening. What's up, you cool baby? [theme music plays] Justin: Hello, everybody, and welcome to My Brother, My Brother and Me, an advice show for the modern era. I'm your oldest brother, Justin McElroy! [audience cheers] Travis: I'm your middlest brother, Travis McElroy. [audience cheers] Griffin: I'm your sweet baby brother, and 30 Under 30 media luminary, Griffin McElroy. [audience cheers] Griffin: Thank you. It is— it's Father's Day, and I know we really shouldn't start out with this kind of energy, but Dad saying, "We love it here! It's very great!" is the most [laughs] disingenuous thing I've ever heard anybody say on a stage. Travis: It feels like something that was written in a different language, and then translated to English. Griffin: [laughs] It's true, but yeah, so... Justin: Yeah. He didn't sell it. I love him, he's my dad; he didn't sell it. Travis: He didn't sell it! Justin: He didn't sell it. Travis: Though, to be fair, that might be because we've only been in Indianapolis for 20 minutes.

  • Paradigm Shift: How the Evolution of Two Generations of Home
PARADIGM SHIFT: HOW THE EVOLUTION OF TWO GENERATIONS OF HOME CONSOLES, ARCADES, AND COMPUTERS INFLUENCED AMERICAN CULTURE, 1985-1995 By Jason Terence Wiley A thesis submitted to the Graduate Faculty in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS IN HISTORY University of Central Oklahoma Spring, 2016 iii Abstract Author: Jason Terence Wiley Thesis Chair: Dr. Patricia Loughlin Title of Thesis: Paradigm Shift: How the Evolution of Two Generations of Home Consoles, Arcades, and Computers Influenced American Culture, 1985-1995 Abstract: As of 2016, unlike many popular media forms found here in the United States, video games possess a unique influence, one that gained its own a large widespread appeal, but also its own distinct cultural identity created by millions of fans both here stateside and across the planet. Yet, despite its significant contributions, outside of the gaming’s arcade golden age of the early 1980s, the history of gaming post Atari shock goes rather unrepresented as many historians simply refuse to discuss the topic for trivial reasons thus leaving a rather noticeable gap within the overall history. One such important aspect not covered by the majority of the scholarship and the primary focus of thesis argues that the history of early modern video games in the North American market did not originate during the age of Atari in the 1970s and early 1980s. Instead, the real genesis of today’s market and popular gaming culture began with the creation and establishment of the third and fourth generation of video games, which firmly solidified gaming as both a multi-billion dollar industry and as an accepted form of entertainment in the United States.
