MFTVB will hold a Town Hall meeting on Thursday, May 7th at 6 p.m. at Best Western The Normandy Inn & Suites in . There will be a social half-hour from 6 to 6:30 p.m. (cash bar available) before the meeting begins at 6:30. The focus will be an update on the legislative session.

The Second Annual .EDU Film Festival May 15th & 16th

The .EDU Film Festival is 's first school sponsored, state-wide film festival showcasing short films written, shot, edited, and scored by high-school filmmakers. This year the festival received 125 films and video entries from 25 schools and organizations around the state; 60 will screen throughout the two-day event.

On Friday, May 15th the festival will be at the Riverview Theater and on Saturday, May 16th the action moves to St. Anthony Main Theatre. All activities and screenings are designed to bring students together with Minnesota filmmakers, industry professionals, and post high school

educational institutions as a way to introduce young people to the film industry in our state.

Festival organizers Trey Wodele and Rick Hansen have put together four outstanding panel discussions comprised of professionals working in the moving image industry in Minnesota. On Friday, a discussion of film criticism and journalism will include film critics Peter Schilling, Colin Covert and Jim Brunzell in addition to Euan Kerr of Minnesota Public Radio and Tim Campbell from the . Also on Friday is a "Docs For Kids" discussion with documentary filmmakers Melody Gilbert and Matt Ehling.

Saturday's panels will be "Funky Filmmakers," with filmmaker Tom Schroeder, screenwriter Michael Starrbury and producer/filmmaker Bobby Marsden, and "MN Production" with production managers Deena Graf, Nicole Erdmann and Jeffrey Bair.

Meet Big Event

Big Event is a production and event staging company that provides audio, video, lighting and projection for corporate and organizational meetings and special events. The company maintains an extensive inventory of state- of-the-art facilities and support gear that allows them to be the single-source for all the aspects of even the most complex productions.

Big Event offices in the Grain Belt complex in Northeast Minneapolis (77 13th Avenue NE, Studio 10). The small but convenient shooting space is sound-proof and ideal for "green screen" segments and interviews. Producers renting the studio may also rent company equipment packages or bring in their own lights and cameras.

The business was founded in 2003 by a group of professionals known for their media talents and exceptional customer service. Today, the partners are: Bob Chouinard (Producer/Technical Director), Tom Bothof (Audio Design/Production Management), Steve Friederichsen (Producer/Video), Ross Gish (Lighting Designer).

INTO TEMPTATION Premiers at Newport Beach Film Festival

Patrick Coyle's feature film INTO TEMPTATION, starring LAW & ORDER'S Jeremy Sisto as a Roman Catholic priest and Kristin Chenoweth, of PUSHING DAISIES and Broadway musical fame, as a prostitute who plans to commit suicide on her birthday.

The movie tells the story of the race by the priest to prevent her from carrying through with her plan.

Coyle, Sisto, and producer Ann Luster were present for the screening on Sunday, April 26 for a Q&A. According to OC Weekly, "Sisto and Brian Baumgartner, who plays the best friend to Sisto's priest, explained that while looking for projects when their respective TV shows were on hiatus, they were drawn to Coyle's script. 'For nine months we basically do the same episode over and over,' Sisto said of LAW & ORDER. 'This came out of nowhere.' He found himself "inspired by the script, the gentleness of it, the magic of it.'"

Jeremy Sisto won the festival award for outstanding achievement in acting for his work in the film.

The film was shot in Minneapolis in 2008 and participated in Snowbate, Minnesota's production incentive program.

May Events & Announcements

Local producer and director Tom Maertz will premiere his documentary WILL WORK FOR FOOD on Saturday, May 9th at 7 p.m. at Oak Street Cinema in Minneapolis. The film was made in Minnesota and explores the lives of the homeless living in the Twin Cities. Tickets are $8 and a portion of ticket sales will be donated to Saint Stephen's Street Outreach Program Additional donations for the homeless will be accepted.

The world premiere of the Minnesota-made film TERROR FROM BENEATH THE EARTH, directed by Christopher Mihm, will take place on Wednesday, May 20th at 7 p.m. at the Heights Theatre in Columbia Heights. The screening will include era-appropriate newsreels, classic trailers, appearances by most (if not all) of the cast and crew, and free cake, autographs and photos with the creature from the film! DVDs, posters and other merchandise will also be on sale at the event. Advance tickets are on sale through Christopher Mihm's website but will also be available at the door if advance tickets do not sell out.

This summer, girls ages 12 to 18 will have the opportunity to make a short movie by attending TVbyGirls Summer Camps. This fun and creative experience will offer girls the opportunity to explore the tools necessary to make a great video: the power of images, storyboarding, lighting, camera angles and editing. By the end of the week participants will have created a video short to share with the world through the TVbyGIRLS website, Facebook, YouTube and blogs.
