Na Fianna Nuacht Senior Camogie Team In Championship Final Following last Sunday’s fantastic semi-final win over St Vincents, our Senior Camogie team play St Judes in Division 1 Championship on Final, this Sunday at 3.30pm in St Peregrines and they’re looking for you your support. This is Na Fianna's second Senior Camogie Championship final appearance in two years, and it’s great to be back again. Camogie has gone through a very strong revival in Na Fianna in recent times with playing numbers at all levels increasing year on year. Na Fianna has four adult teams in Championship reflecting the strong growth of Camogie in the club. One would have to go back to the days of twelve a-side Camogie to find a time when Na Fianna last fielded four competitive adult teams. Sunday’s Senior squad and their success in getting to another Championship final is a tribute to this unique set of players who have played together and played for each other over the last while. The team has had a few retirees and injuries from last year's finalists so as a result it is a much younger team. The squad is a very good mix of established players and young players at the very start of their adult playing career. Special credit and thanks goes to Senior Management team of Brendan Skehan, Fiona Greene, Darragh Muleady, David Hughes, Fran Gray, Dee Quinn and Austin Rock who have worked tirelessly with this group of players. All in Na Fianna wish the Ladies and the management team the very best of luck Na Fianna Nuacht 19ú Deireadh Fómhair 2018 1 Na Fianna Nuacht Weekend Fixtures Our AFL8’s play Peregrines in Blanchardstown IT this Friday at 8pm. Na Fianna Nuacht 19ú Deireadh Fómhair 2018 2 Na Fianna Nuacht Na Fianna Nuacht 19ú Deireadh Fómhair 2018 3 Na Fianna Nuacht Halloween School Holidays Following a number of recent incidents around the club, members are asked to be vigilant around all club premises and pitches during the Halloween school holidays and to report any potential anti-social activity to Club officials or the Gardaí. Halloween is one of the busiest nights of the year for the Emergency Services. Last year, the Dublin control centre processed over 800 calls between 16.00 hrs (31st Oct) to 08.00 hrs (1st Nov). The majority of calls related to bonfires, fireworks, a number of car fires and a small number of domestic fires. Please see link to Dublin City Council advice on bonfire material. http://www.dublincity.ie/dubliners-urged-report-bonfire-material-2 Parents and Guardians are also reminded that Na Fianna does not purport to offer supervision to children who are on the club premises or grounds outside of training or match times. In addition, Juveniles are asked not to bring non-members into the club grounds. This notice is also printed on membership form. Parents should also note that children should not under any circumstances enter the club buildings during the day as the premises are unoccupied and unsupervised. Membership card access to club facilities is being monitored and any obvious pattern of mis-use will result in access services to individual membership cards being withdrawn. Need for Vigilance Teams are again reminded to be vigilant when attending matches or training sessions on club property. Players and mentors are asked not to leave valuables of any kind in parked cars in any location or facility. Similarly, teams playing home matches should nominate a specific mentor or parent to take responsibility for securing the home and away dressing rooms before going out on to pitch. Teams using dressing room facilities in Mobhi Road are also asked to ensure that the outside door to the dressing rooms is closed firmly. Activity in and around sports clubs, particularly as the evenings get darker, can attract opportunists whose motives may be suspect. Teams should consider nominating individuals to keep an eye on parked cars during matches/training and to always report any suspicious activity to the Gardaí. Na Fianna Nuacht 19ú Deireadh Fómhair 2018 4 Na Fianna Nuacht Gaelic Sunday and the GAA in the Irish Revolution – A Presentation Domhnach Gaelach agus Cumann Lúthchleas Gael i réabhlóid na hÉireann A history presentation by Dónal Fallon and Cormac Moore, historians In Halla Na Fianna, 8pm, Thursday 25th October This talk will be mainly in English with some Gaeilge also. All welcome. August 4th 1918 was one of the most remarkable and significant days in the history of the GAA. It will be forever remembered as Gaelic Sunday- the day when the GAA peacefully stood against the British Empire - and won! In 1918, the authorities in Ireland tried to impose conscription to supplement the war effort but there was massive opposition to this. There was great frustration on behalf of the British authorities at this and they blamed the GAA in part for this opposition. The issue came to a head on July 9th when an Ulster Championship match was prevented from taking place in Cootehill by Crown Forces. British Authorities attempted a crackdown on GAA activities by insisting no matches could take place without prior written permission being sought and granted. The GAA not only objected they decided to defy the order and hold a match in every parish in Ireland at precisely the same time - 3pm on Sunday 4th August. Na Fianna Nuacht 19ú Deireadh Fómhair 2018 5 Na Fianna Nuacht Changes To GAA Player Injury Scheme The GAA Player Injury Scheme has changed the rules around injury claims. Previously, once players were registered by April 1st, claims were honoured for injuries from January 1st onwards. In future, claims will only be paid out for periods AFTER the date of registration. This means that in future club subs need to be paid by January 1st so that players can be registered and appropriately covered should they have an injury. Not ideal, but PLAYERS and MENTORS please take note of this important change and arrange to have club subs paid for 2018/2019 before players start training in the New Year. Details of the Player Injury Scheme are available on the club website http://www.clgnafianna.com/club-information/player-injury-scheme/ Members’ Subscriptions Due Membership subscriptions for 2018/2019 are now due and can be paid in a number of ways. The membership crew will be operating from the Fáilte Hub on Mobhi Road between 9.30 and 11.30am tomorrow (Saturday 20th October) to collect completed membership forms, take debit/credit card payments and answer any queries. Subs can also be paid online here: http://www.clgnafianna.com/membership/ or in the club office Monday to Friday 9.30am to 1pm. Ever wondered where membership subscription fees go? Membership subscriptions are the primary income stream of the club and fund all playing- related expenses for our 166 teams from county board registration, GAA/LGFA/Camogie Association membership fees, competition entry fees, referees fees, to players injury scheme contributions and pitch hire. Na Fianna’s Over 40’s Shine! By Pairic O’Carroll Well it started out as a bit of adventure last Saturday, in weather you wouldn’t send your kids out in, 12 big kids set off with their boots over to the hallowed but mucky turf of St Judes in Templogue……with warnings ringing their ears not to come home injured I might add ! First game v Round Towers was a bit of a struggle, getting used to the conditions as I would say but it was actually more due to the fact that a lot us hadn’t run let alone played together in a quite a long time. We had the chances to win it but lady luck was not smiling on us and it wasn’t to be. Thankfully we were all still standing though! Na Fianna Nuacht 19ú Deireadh Fómhair 2018 7 Na Fianna Nuacht In game 2 v the fancied hosts Judes we found our rhythm and kicked some lovely points and ground out a well deserved victory.
