A flow chart depicting the operations is shown below: OPENCAST METHOD DRILLING & BLASTING 32 mm BLAST HOLE. Nitrate Mixture Explosive BENCH FORMATION 5.0 m HEIGHT & 5.0 WIDTH EXCAVATION BY EXCAVATORS LOADING BY EXCAVATORS / LOADERS TRANSPORTATION BY TRUCKS / TIPPERS DESPATCH TO CLIENT / CUSTOMER The quarry is proposed to work with conventional open cast with bench system method with mechanized mode of operation. Based on the mode and method, taking into the consideration of geological parameters of the charnockite body, the quarry pit will be so designed such that the height of the bench is kept about 5.00 m max. Building Stone Quarry of M/s Puthenveetil Associates 3.2 REGIONAL GEOLOGY The area forms a part of the Precambrian metamorphic complex of Malappuram district, comprising mainly rocks of the Charnockite Group. Large patches and lenses of Hornblende-Biotite gneiss and Biotite gneiss are seen towards the east-north-east and east of the area. The rocks have a general WNW-ESE strike of foliation with steep dips, often giving rise to WNW-ESE tight isoclinal folds. Thick, reddish laterite profiles are seen developed over charnockites towards the south and west of the area. 3.2.1LOCAL GEOLOGY The main rock type in the quarry site is dark coloured, medium to coarse grained charnockite, consisting of pyroxenes, feldspars, quartz and occasional biotite. Two sets of joints are seen traversing the rocks, often rendering the rock mass as elongated and isometric blocks of different shapes and sizes. As a result, the quarry products cannot be used as blocks of dimension stone. Thin veins of pegmatite are seen intruding the charnockite mass. The upper part of the rock is weathered, giving rise to a thin veneer of soil, thickness of which does not exceed 1.0 m within the quarry site. 3.2.2 GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF FORMATIONS The geological parameters / features of the ore body as obtained from the field mapping and exploration studies reveal the following: Length of the ore body : ranging from 222 m to 235 m (Avg 229 m) Width of the ore body : ranging from 49 to 102 m (Avg 75.5 m) 3.3 METHOD OF ESTIMATION OF RESERVES The estimation of ore reserves is made by conventional parallel cross section method using geological cross section. The geological cross sections are prepared across the strike of the ore body. The area of individual litho units in each and every cross section is calculated separately. The volume between the cross section is arrived on the basis of the average area of Production cross section And tonnage is arrived at by multiplying by bulk density. Building Stone Quarry of M/s Puthenveetil Associates Note : Following are the parameters considered for reserve estimation: (i) In the allotted area, the mineral is exposed from the lower most level of 90 m MSL to the top most part of the hill at 115 m MSL. Hence, the reserve for proved category has been considered up to 70 m MSL. (ii) Bulk Density of Stone and associated minor minerals is taken as 2.5Ton /M3. 3.6RESERVES OF MINERALS Considering the above parameters and exposures observed in the existing pit in the allotted area, the surface geological plan and geological cross-sections & longitudinal section are prepared. Accordingly, the reserves for Stone and associated minor minerals have been estimated on cross- sectional area method. • 1 NEED for the PLAN Ponnani Town Is a Known Trade Centre in the History of Malabar and Is Situated in the Malappuram District
Master plan for Ponnani Town -2035 1 NEED FOR THE PLAN Ponnani town is a known trade centre in the history of Malabar and is situated in the Malappuram District. Ponnani, the taluk headquarters is enriched with rivers, lakes, canals and sea shore. With large facilities for eco tourism options, rich tradition, trade and service, the city is blooming as one of the major urban centre in Malappuram District. The chapter gives an insight into the town and specifies the need for a Master Plan in the area. For this the Master Plan area/ Ponnani town is delineated as the Ponnani Municipal area. 1.1 The Town Ponnani is an ancient coastal town and an important fishing center in Malappuram District. Spread over an area of 24.82 km2, the town is situated at the mouth of Bharathapuzha, the second longest river of the State, and is bounded by the Lakshadweep Sea on the west. Thus the town was prominent as a scenic, coastal town since ancient times. Being a major coastal town, the place has much historical significance too. It is often regarded as one of the oldest ports in South India and has contributed to the trade and economy of Malabar from very early times. Ponnani formerly known as Ponani and Paniyani is sometimes roughly identified with the port Tyndis of the Roman accounts. Ponnani taluk is the smallest taluk in Malappuram District.
