ICOM Russia Report 2017 Conferences «Digital Heritage in : Possession, Promotion, Control»

21 – 22 March 2017 – «Digital Heritage in Museum: Possession, Promotion, Control» – Tsiolkovsky State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics, Kaluga, Russia. The seminar was dedicated to the problems of saving, learning and usage of the digital heritage in a museum. This event was organized by ICOM Russia, Kaluga Ministry of culture and and the «Kamis» company.

More than 100 museum specialists from different regions participated in the conference.

22 March 2017 – «Problem of Choosing the Fire Extinguishing System for Museums» - International exhibition “Securika”, Moscow. The main question of this conference – fire security in museums, providing security for the collections and visitors.

25 – 29 2017 - The XIX international museum festival «Intermuseum 2017», Moscow, Russia. The main theme: «Museum of the Future». The Festival was organized by the Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation, ICOM Russia, State Museum and Exhibition Center «ROSIZO», Russian union of museums and Vladimir Potanin Charity foundation.

During the Festival ICOM Russia had a booth, which was devoted to the 60th anniversary of the Russian committee and presented two projects of the organization: Inclusive Museum and Museum Map.

According to the annual tradition, ICOM Russia held the contest and granted the prize to the best museum project on the work with the local community. In 2017 the award was given to the Yaroslavl State Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve. The winner of the prize will present its’ project at the International Festival «The Best in Heritage», Dubrovnik, Croatia, 2018. A special prize of the Festival «The Youth view» (also coordinated by ICOM Russia) was given to the Museum of the History of Yekaterinburg.

According to the statistics, the Festival has gathered more than 300 museums and around 2500 museum professionals from Russia and other countries (Belarus, , , Croatia, France, Germany, Ireland, , the Netherlands, Serbia, the Republic of South Africa, the United Kingdom and others). More than 42000 people have visited the Intermuseum 2017 during five days. «Restoration of the Architectural Complexes – the Way to the Historical Urban Environment Recovery»

1 - 3 June 2017 – International scientific and practical conference «Restoration of the Architectural Complexes – the Way to the Historical Urban Environment Recovery» - the State museum-reserve “Rostov Kremlin”, Rostov the Great, Russia. Different projects of complex architectural reconstruction were presented during the conference. Series of master-classes and the presentation of a large-scale restoration project of the XVII-century Livery Yard became the program’s high spot.

The event was organized by the State museum-reserve “Rostov Kremlin”, the Ministry of culture and ICOM Russia and gathered around 100 specialists from Russia, Germany, Czech Republic and Israel. The VII International cultural and touristic forum – «Siber Il»

30 June – 1 July 2017 – The VII International cultural and touristic forum – «Siber Il» - the National Museum and Cultural Center in Abakan, Khakasia Republic, Russia. ICOM Russia prepared and held the two days section «Cultural Networks and Branding of Territories» in the framework of the forum. On the second working day, the Training session “Territorial Brand Development with the Cultural Means” was held for the museum specialists of the Khakassia Republic.

Participants of the section have elaborated the Resolution with recommendations for museums, cultural organizations, experts and other stakeholders who are interested in developing the culture in their own region.

The event was organized by the Government of the Khakassia Republic and ICOM Russia and gathered around 100 museum specialists from Khakasia and other regions of Siberia.

31 July – 3 August – International conference «The Main Tendencies of Development of Arts and Crafts in 1960 – 2010-s» - Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts named after Gapar Aitiev, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. This conference was a part of the long-term program «Heritage of the Commonwealth (CIS). Traditions for the Future», which aim is to rearrange the cooperation and experience exchange among the museum specialists, artists and handicraft people from CIS countries. The main theme of the conference – «Museums through the Local Gaze». There were a plenary session «Museum as a Platform for Education and Mediation of Social Relations» and two sections: «Museums as Agents of Social Inclusion» and «Museum as Local Economy Driver». The conference was prepared by ICOM Russia, Ministry of Culture, DutchCulture - centre for international cooperation. Partners: the State Hermitage Museum, the State Museum and Exhibition Center ROSPHOTO, the State Museum-Reserve «Tsarskoe Selo» and the State Russian Museum. 16 – 22 September 2017 – XXI international practical conference ADIT – 2017 – «Museum in the Era of Digital Transformation», Tver Regional Art Gallery, Tver, Russia. During the conference, a huge spectrum of the themes (including AR and VR and cloud technologies in museums, 3D modeling, RFID, e-commerce and a lot of other topics) were discussed. Moreover, two days-long workshops «Information Strategy and Tactics of the Museum in the Epoch of the Digital Transformation: the Human Dimension of Technology» took place during that meeting. Around 90 participants have participated in the ADIT conference.

The conference was devoted to the 400 years anniversary of Novokuznetsk. It was organized by the Department of Culture of Kemerovo region, Kemerovo Regional Museum of Fine Arts and with the support of ICOM Russia.

26 September – 1 October 2017 – The First Far East Conference of the Regional Museums – Primorsky State Museum named after V.K. Arsenyev, Vladivostok, Russia. The conference discussions were divided into five sections: • The Life and Work of V. K. Arsenyev; • Museum and Contested Histories; • Genius Loci. The Symbolic Resource of the Regional Museum; • Museum as the Initiator of the Social Changes in the Region; • “Open Buffet” in Museums: Different Formats of Educational Activities. Also, a special session was devoted to ICOM and ICOM Russia activities in order to attract more museum specialists to our professional network.

19 – 20 October 2017 – The II All-Russian science and practical conference - «Informal Approach to Formal Education: the Role of the Museums in Educational Reform» - the Museum of Cosmonautics, Moscow, Russia. The conference was devoted to the strengthening of interaction of Russian and foreign museums with the educational organizations.

The event was prepared by the Department of Culture of Moscow, the Museum of Cosmonautics, Russian Union of Museums and ICOM Russia.

16 - 18 November 2017 - VI Saint Petersburg International Cultural Forum. In the framework of the Forum, ICOM Russia organized the round table talks «Museum for Everybody: Future or Reality». It was held in the Staraya Derevnya Restoration and Storage Centre, Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The round table aimed to raise questions on the development of inclusive society, creation of conditions for participation of adults and children, teens and the late-middle-aged people, people with disabilities, migrants and other social groups in the museum everyday activities.

The project "Inclusive Museum" is aimed at developing the best practices of socialization and creative rehabilitation of children with disabilities with the museum means, as well as the formation of an accessible environment in museums. In 2017, the target audience of the project was children with mental disabilities. At the same time, it is intended to transform "Inclusive museum" project into long-term educational program that will aid museums to become open, comfortable and accessible for all audiences. Project is realized jointly with Charity Foundation "Wonder Wheel" with support of Sberbank`s Charitable Foundation "INVESTMENT TO THE FUTURE".

Project consisted of:

• The creation and promotion of thematic animated videos and recommendations upon following issues: 1. social approach to disability problems in museums; 2. friendly and correct terminology; 3. disability etiquette; 4. features of interaction with infant cerebral paralysis; 5. features of interaction with children having Down Syndrome; 6. features of interaction with children having autism spectrum disorders; 7. features of interaction with children on wheelchair; 8. organization of inclusive programs in museums. Eight animated videos during the implementation of the project have received over 5200 views. Project consisted of: • The implementation of two series of educational webinars for museum specialists on how to interact with children having mental disabilities and organize effective inclusive and art therapy programs. These online seminars were conducted with participation of representatives of charity funds and NGO’s which work and support people with disabilities. More than 450 museum specialists from 55 regions participated in the webinars

• The establishment of the All-Russian campaign – “Museum for Everybody! The Day of Inclusion” (the first Saturday of December,) with a key social message that everybody should have equal rights and opportunities of participating in the cultural life; In 2 December 2017, during this social campaign Russian museums conducted various events (master-classes, tours, concerts, public lectures, festivals, etc.) for people with disabilities, their friends and families as well as other visitors: http://in-museum.ru/afisha/ «Inclusive Museum»

Organization of the grant contest to detect the best museum inclusive programs and provide winners with financial help for implementation of announced projects in 2018;

In 2017, 52 museums from 29 regions applied for grants in two categories: “Inclusive start” (for museums which do not have experience in organization of the systematic inclusive programs) and “Inclusive development” (for museums which improve or create a new innovative program). ICOM Russia has allocated grants for two museums: one in each category.

Project «Study your Visitor»

This initiative includes consultations for museums organized by a museum sociologist, ICOM Russia member who is curating this project. These consultations aim to help museums conduct sociological research to understand visitors’ preferences and behavior. In 2017, the Museum-Reserve "Mouranovo Estate named after F. Tyutchev", the Nizhny Tagil Museum- Reserve "Gornozavodskoy Ural", and the Russian National Museum of Music participated in the project and have held the sociological research with the methodological support of project experts.

The creation of the interactive map was dedicated to 60th anniversary of Russian Committee of the International Council of Museums. The map embraces the territory of all country - from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok - and each point on it indicates a museum institution included in the net of ICOM Russia. Interactive indicators provide users with basic information about a chosen museum: its address and contacts. Convenient tool for searching necessary museums is equipped with different filters and informational table. The project of Museum Map is implemented with assistance of the "Museum Plus" company.
