Through her interview of many imprisoned Palestinian terrorists, the author provides many informative insights of those who have been imprisoned for engaging in either failed Islamikaze suicide-bomb attempts or knife assaults against Israeli targets since c. 2000. The author is a female Israeli army officer, who with cooperation of Israeli prison authorities, interviewed many imprisoned Palestinians who engaged in violent actions against Israeli soldiers or civilians. Through these interviews over several years the author is able to reveal the motivations of the assailants, as well as explain the thought processes as to how the attackers' recruiters enticed fellow Palestinians to agree to commit various attacks. This book centers on the recruitment and motivations of women and teenagers. The author's findings are similar to those that she found that motivated male assailants in her earlier book: "The Path to Paradise": That potential male martyrs dreamed of entering an Islamic paradise filled with female virgins (houri) who would become their uncomplaining, heavenly sexual- pleasing wives. [Many secularists still refuse to believe this motivation for Islamikazes.] While female martyrs also sought marital bliss in heaven, the author reveals that their primary motivation for martyrdom missions was to escape abusive husbands or other family members. The author found that many of the female martyr wannabes suffered from insecurities in being raised in families whereby the father had died early in a woman's life - thereby depriving them of a protective presence against those who preyed upon vulnerable, impressionable women for suicide-attack missions. Many of these women grew up being told that they were unwanted, useless, essentially purposeless outside of bearing children -- but most of these women wanted to get away from their oppressive relatives to obtain some education and lifestyle besides staring at kitchen walls. As a woman and a mother, Anat Berko was able to win the trust of imprisoned bombers and speak with them intimately. Entering Israel's most heavily secured cells, she met with female and adolescent would-be suicide bombers and their dispatchers, lawyers, and interrogators. The personal stories are greatly enriched by the inclusion of the sketches and letters many prisoners gave to the author. She explores vital questions surrounding the forces that lead individuals to place explosives on their bodies, kill and injure scores of civilians, and take their own lives. The answers offer a rare and candid portrayal that will be essential reading for all those wanting to understand the interior world of suicide bombers and how to communicate with terrorists. Berko . has been given unprecedented access to numerous terrorists and would-be terrorists in the countryrsquo;s prisons, and she has apparently won their trust. In interview after interview, men and women open up to her and relate the most intimate details about the phenomenon of female suicide attacks against Israel during the second intifada. Berko set out to understand why women became involved in suicide attacks, and also to understand the different terrorist organizationsrsquo; viewpoints on using women in their war against Israel. Assistant Professor of West Asian Studies, University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran ([email protected]) (Received: Jan. 3, 2019 Revised: Feb. 24, 2019 Accepted: Mar. 28, 2019) Abstract Research on the special relationship between the United States and Israel has usually been focused on strategic aspects, whilst fewer scholars have focused on non-material dimensions of the relationship. In addition, the existing research is mostly confined to the political and decision-making realms, with very few excursions into the academic arena. The current article aims to fill this lacuna through the study of pro-Israel academic discourse in America, focusing on the specific case of the field of terrorism studies. Critical discourse analysis of pro-Israel academic texts in this field is carried out to reveal the discourse, themes and arguments used to build this ideational pillar of the special relationship and move towards a common identity between the US and Israel. The common ingroup identity model (CIIM) is used to describe the process through which a common identity is constructed. The article concludes that defining the Self, defining the Other, and defining the norms are the three main strategies employed in the studied texts to achieve this goal.     The 20th Knesset Report on Racist, Discriminatory, and Occupation- and Annexation-Supportive Laws and Bills Summer Session 2015 – Summer Session 2018 Third Report By Barhoum Jaraysi Palestinian Forum for Israeli Studies (MADAR), Ramallah, in cooperation with the Negotiations Affairs Department, Palestine Liberation Organisation Summary 2015–2018 Over the three years of its parliamentary session, the Knesset enacted a total of 185 racist laws in support of the occupation and settlement activity. A total of 32 bills were approved in the final reading. These included 26 separate laws. Six bills were included as provisions under four of the 26 approved laws. In the third parliamentary year (May 2017–March 2018): 1. The Knesset approved six bills in the final reading. Another two bills were included as provisions under a law. Approved bills provide for tightening restrictions on Palestinian movement and access across the 1967 occupied territory and enforcing the Israeli law to the occupied West Bank. 2. Two bills were approved in the first reading. Of these, a bill provides for imposing restrictions on anti-occupation human rights organisations. Representatives of these organisations may not visit school students. 3. Seven bills were approved in the preliminary reading. These advocate for discrimination and restriction of political activity. The most dangerous of these is the Nation-State Law. 4. During the reporting period, members of Knesset (MKs) proposed 38 bills. The majority of these prescribe penalties against Palestinians of the West Bank and Jerusalem, place restrictions on political activity, and consolidate discrimination. Since Donald Trump was elected as the US President, the Knesset has initiated a process to provide final approval and make laws, with the purpose of direct and indirect annexation.

The study examines the hypothesis that Palestinian women's involvement in terrorism indicates women's liberation.
