JUN 2 George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic A master of funk on the level of James Brown and Sly Stone, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic lent the genre a psychedelic swagger in the 70s and 80s with tracks like "Atomic Dog." Extensively sampled by hip-hop artists-most famously in Snoop Dogg's "What's My Name?''-the legendary P-Funk collective brings the world's greatest party to kick off the summer in Brooklyn. JUL 21 Urban Guerilla Orchestra with special guest Miles Jaye Representing the gold standard of the play-anything party band, the Urban Guerilla Orchestra is the sum of its members' experience, which include gigs with everyone from Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder to Alicia Keys. At MetroTech, they welcome Village People alum and R&B standout Miles Jaye. I JUL 28 Jose James Vocalist Jose James' voice is a blend of jazz crooner mellowness and R&B cool. It can be devastatingly hushed, as on his recent duo album, For All We Know, or flow liberally for more groove-based fare. A "rising jazz star" (The New York times) signed to the prestigious Verve label, James has played everywhere from Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis to Central Park SummerStage, and brings his "honeyed baritone" (BBC) to MetroTech for a set of standards and more. JUN 30 Bobbi Humphrey The first woman to sign with Blue Note Records and briefly a member of one of Duke Ellington's bands, urban pop flutist Bobbi Humphrey defined the 70s at its smoothest with tracks like "Harlem River Drive." Her solo on Stevie Wonder's 1977 track "Another Star," from Songs in the Key of Life, further cemented her reputation as "First Lady of the Flute." .
