The music is swingy, energetic, both danceable and good listening. Royale Garden is one of the few surviving jazz-club bands in Southern California. It originated over 20 years ago with the Covina-based Society for the Preservation of Dixieland Jazz. In recent years RGJB has made numerous appearances at the New Orleans Jazz Club of Southern California at Westminster, the Lakeside Jazz Club in Elsinore, the South Bay New Orleans Jazz Club in Redondo Beach, and at our monthly concerts in San Diego. After over 20 years, the 2019 SD Adult Trad Jazz camp with seven instructors and almost 70 campers was once again a great success. The faculty demonstrated vintage instrumental techniques and supervised sessions played by the students. Instruction also included sectionals for front line and rhythm. Additional classes were offered on jazz history, music theory, stage presence, as well as advanced ensemble topics. Don’t miss the 2020 Jazz Camp. See our ad on page 6.
