School Newsletter School Newsletter Trinity Academy Eppleby Forcett and Middleton Tyas Proud to be Church of England Academies Friday 27th November 2020 Autumn Term - Issue 11 A MESSAGE FROM MRS McLEAN Dear Parents and Carers, We have had a lovely week in our schools and enjoyed getting creative making beautiful angels. This has been inspired by the 'Wing and a Prayer' project at Ripon Cathedral, where local children made origami angels to represent the NHS and people who have died due to COVID. https://www.riponcathedral.org.uk/wing-and-prayer/ We have sent our creations, along with all the other schools in the Trust, to All Saints Church of England Academy, where an amazing installation, with over 2000 angels, will be created. Do watch out for the finished display, as it will be a wonderful sight to see. The Christmas trees have arrived at our schools and are looking beautiful. A huge thank you to Friends for organising delivery and to Mole Valley for their extremely kind donations. We have organised a way of Christmas cards coming into our schools safely. Cards can be brought into school and placed in the class post box. The closing date for Christmas cards into school is Friday 11th Decem- ber. Cards will be distributed the following week, after a period of quarantine, at which point the children will be able to take them home. We have had some damage to the grit box and bollard in the parent car park at Middleton Tyas, which now has to be replaced. Please can I ask parents to park carefully in the designated bays and not on the grass verges. Have a lovely weekend and stay safe! Kind regards, Mrs D. McLean Head of School PARENT GOVERNOR ELECTION, TRINITY ACADEMY EPPLEBY FORCETT & MIDDLETON TYAS We need to appoint a parent governor to provide skills and support to our governing body. We are very ambitious for our schools to provide the best possible learning environment for our children and continuously develop and support our staff to achieve this. The governing body already has good representation from people with an education background. We would be particularly keen to hear from people with finance, communications or business skills. The schools are part of the Dales Academies Trust and the Governing Body forms part of the Dales Trust governance arrangements. If you are interested and would like further information, please email the Chair of Governors Janet Probert at; [email protected] or visit our website - www.trinityefmt.dalesmat.org. Preschool: It was all about bugs in Preschool this week! The children built a five-star bug hotel that was kindly supplied in our 'Hanson Box'. They will regularly visit and observe the bug hotel to find out what type of bugs are staying there. The children then used lollipop sticks, paper shapes, scissors and glue to make pictures of different types of bugs. They also counted how many legs each bug had. Reception: The children have really enjoyed continuing to learn all about numbers 4 and 5 this week. They explored the numbers in many different ways: counting and subitising items; counting to and back from 5; finding different ways to compose the numbers using addition; recognising the numeral and matching it to a quantity; and their favourite, finding different ways to represent the numbers using 'stampolines' inspired by Numberblocks. Our book of the week was 'Hibernation', a fact book all about animals getting ready for their winter sleep. The children were amazed to find out that arctic ground squirrels sleep for 8 months of the year! Year 1: This week Year 1 have started to read their new class book - Rosie Revere Engineer. They enjoyed using clues on the front cover to predict what Rosie might do during the story and they also wrote Rosie a wonderful letter to encourage her to persevere and try her best. In Maths this week, the children have been learning all about number bonds and have used systematic patterns to help them answer lots of Maths problems. Year 2: This week in Maths, the children have continued to look at money. In English, they have been looking at our class book called, 'If I built a car?' From this book, they have been looking at SPaG and focusing on past and present tense and a range of conjunctions. In Science they have been looking at the process of how new materials are discovered and in Art, the focus has been our unique Advent Calendar! Year 3: Year 3 have really enjoyed their class text this week and written some fantastic descriptions of the Emperor and written questions, exclamations, statements and commands too. In Maths, the children have worked through lots of problems involving the 3, 4 and 8 times tables. Supermovers have helped us learn our times tables too with their quirky routines and rhymes. PE saw the children really enjoying Hockey and taking part in a virtual golf tournament and in Science they have designed and discussed what makes a healthy diet and all the different food groups. Year 4: This week the children have been very excited to start part 2 of their story 'Romans on the Rampage - Jailbreak!'. They used their improving writing skills to predict what would happen next in the story, and listened really well to each other reading their predictions. In Maths, the children have worked hard on their times tables challenges and everyone has made good progress in this area. Along with improving their hockey skills this half term, the class have been practising their archery skills and are entering a virtual competition next week to compete against other North Yorkshire schools - we will let you know how they get on! Year 5: In Year 5 this week, the children have been building suspense in their narrative writing. They used the power of film to generate some spine-tingling paragraphs based around ‘Alma’s’ visit to a mysterious toy shop. In Maths, they have continued their work on multiplication and have now completed a unit on square, cube and prime numbers. The Christmas stockings are taking shape; the children have joined the front and back pieces of their felt using overstitch. Year 6: The children have again written some fantastic stories in Literacy, using the short film 'Alma' to base their writing on- the work was First Class! Please do check your child's Dojo as many have uploaded it for you to see. In PE this week, the class competed in a virtual orienteering competition, they completed different courses set out on the MUGA in a timed event. Well done to Bobby, Josh, Fraser and Jack who completed all 6 courses in less than 3 minutes! The class have also completed their 'Advent Calendar of Kindness' ready to begin next week. It has a random act of kindness for each day in December which they're looking forward to doing. Our Stars of the Week are: Mel and the Team (Preschool): Georgia Batty for good tidying-up, sharing, comforting others and trying to do good listening. Well done Georgia! Mrs James (Reception): Sophie Mortimer for fantastic cursive letter writing, as well as bringing a super smile and a touch of sunshine to the classroom! Miss Bartle (Y1): Delphine Tarn for persevering and pushing herself all week in every single lesson. She has been focused and ready to learn at every moment and has been a great role model to her friends in our class. Well done Delphine! Ms Ray (Y2): Rafferty Wilmore for having the best positive and curious attitude towards learning. Miss Yarrow (Y3): Alex Clapham for working extremely hard this week, especially in Maths, solving problems and developing his confidence answering questions in class. Well done! Mr Keane (Y4): Joseph Hawkins for showing enthusiasm and interest in his work and for always contributing well to lessons! Mrs Parker (Y5): Lili-Belle for working extremely hard on her Maths. Well done for persevering with your work on multiplication and for finding different arrays. Mr McCulloch (Y6): Biba Farnaby for being a delightful young lady who always works hard and gives 100%. She is kind, pleasant and respectful to everyone and is the perfect Year 6 role model. Well done Biba. INFORMATION Cont…….. TRINITY ACADEMY: Eppleby Forcett, Middleton Tyas and Richmond Education Visits Policy DATE POLICY WAS DATE: 09/12/2020 RATIFIED NAME OF COMMITTEE FULL GOVS RENEWAL DATE DATE: Sep 2021 CHAIR OF COMMITTEE NAME: Janet Probert POLICY AUTHOR NAME: NYCC and EVC’s Model Establishment Educational Visits Policy – August 2020 1 Model School Policy August 2020 This model policy has been reviewed to ensure consistency with the revisions made to the employer policy during August 2020. This policy now fully integrates the Local Learning Area within the body of the text. We have also included a summary table in Section 4 - Visits and Planning Management. Hopefully this provides a clear overview of the core tasks of planning and approval and what is expected. Instructions for using this document When using this document there are a number of sections which will require adapting to meet your schools needs e.g. the type of school: maintained; academy etc. All of the sections that are red or blue will need to be addressed, and some of the instructions removed. Hopefully the changes that are required are all self-evident but they have been recorded within a table of contents at the end of the document. This document also includes a Local Learning Area (LLA) appendix. The LLA is a proportionate approach to managing visits which reduces the level of bureaucracy that school management and visit staff have to undertake in order to address the health and safety associated with educational visits. Use of the LLA assumes that the visits are routine i.e. they are occurring regularly and at least once a month.

  • Richmondshire District Council Does Not Currently Meet the Criteria for Electoral Inequality Ie
District Ward Boundary Review Richmondshire District Council Stage One - Council Size Submission to the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (April 2017) 1 Introduction The Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) is an independent body that is responsible for conducting boundary and electoral reviews of principal authorities in England. Richmondshire District Council does not currently meet the criteria for electoral inequality ie. 30% of wards having a variance greater than +/- 10% of the average electorate per Member, however this threshold is likely to be reached in the very near future. As a result the Council decided in July 2016 to request the LGBCE to undertake an electoral review. This request was accepted and the review was included in their programme. The electoral review will examine whether the boundaries of wards within the local authority area need to be altered to ensure fair representation at the local government elections. In Richmondshire it has been identified that six of the twenty four wards have imbalances. The table below sets out the current imbalances in the District. No (%) Number of wards (>10%) 5 Number of wards (>20%) 0 Number of wards (>30%) 1 The Wards with the above variances are: (%) Brompton-on-Swale & Scorton 11% Hipswell 12% Hornby Castle 29% Middleton Tyas -14% Scotton -12% Swaledale -11% The main reasons for the electoral inequality arises from new housing developments, under registration of service personnel and population changes, the detail of which will be explained in the following sections. North Yorkshire County Council is not within the LGBCE programme for review and the County Council have indicated they will not be requesting a review of the County Divisions.
