Eighth grader Nicholas Sequino’s watercolor rendering of superstorm Sandy was one of four paintings chosen as covers for the FA Sandy Relief Charity Postcards. The cards raised $3,500 and helped fund a shipment of 44,000 pounds of Island Harvest goods and supplies to area food pantries.     Melissa Errico is one of Broadway's most cherished leading ladies, as well as a blossoming recording artist who has been called "the voice of enchantment" by the NY TIMES. She released her second studio CD Lullabies and Wildflowers on Mothers Day 2008. This follows her debut CD Blue Like That (Capitol Records, EMI) produced by Arif Mardin, praised as "gorgeous" (NY TIMES), and "earthy and soulful" (USA TODAY). Melissa was nominated for the Best Leading Actress Tony Award for her work in Michel Legrand's Amour, and has been recognized with the Lucille Lortel Award, six Drama Desk nominations, two Helen Hayes Awards, four Outer Critics Award nominations and three Drama League Honors. In December of 2010, she received the "Artist of Distinction" Award from the Great Neck Arts Center, recognizing her as a Long Island native who has made her home town proud. Melissa starred on Broadway as Betty Haynes (the Rosemary Clooney role) in Irving Berlin's White Christmas, and then starred off-Broadway in the Shaw play CANDIDA, for which she was nominated for a Best Actress 2010 Drama Desk Award. When only a teenager, Melissa burst upon the Broadway scene as Cosette in Les Miserables, quickly followed by a star-turn as Kitty in Anna Karenina, and then, at age 22, to raves as Eliza Doolittle in the Broadway revival of My Fair Lady. Since then, she has starred in High Society, Amour and Dracula on Broadway, and acclaimed off-Broadway plays like Major Barbara and The Importance of Being Earnest, as well as in television and film, including CBS's Central Park West and the movies Frequency and Life Or Something Like It, opposite Angelina Jolie.

    Ian Salisbury (England 1992 to 2001) Ian Salisbury was a prolific wicket-taker in county cricket but struggled in his day job in Tests, taking only 20 wickets at large expense. Wisden claimed the leg-spinner’s googly could be picked because of a higher arm action, which negated the threat he posed. Keith Medlycott, his Surrey coach, felt Salisbury was under-bowled and had his confidence diminished by frequent criticism from people who had little understanding of a leggie’s travails. Yet Ian was a willing performer and an excellent tourist. Salisbury’s Test career was a stop-start affair. Over more than eight years, he played in only 15 Tests. Despite these disappointments Salisbury’s determination was never in doubt. Several times as well, he showed more backbone than his supposedly superior English spin colleagues; most notably in India in early 1993. Ian Salisbury also proved to be an excellent nightwatchman, invariably making useful contributions. His Test innings as nightwatchman are shown below. Took part in “Regina Riots” in July 1935 when the RCMP attacked the unemployed trekkers, killing two and wounding 100. Anderson joined CPCan in Vancouver in June 1937. Arrived in Spain from Canada 02.10.1937. Went missing on Ebro front, 07.09.1938. Repatriated. Died in Vancouver 25.11.1974. 2. ASH Francis, born 16.04.1909 in Dooey, Downpatrick, Co. Down. Emigrated with his parents to Glasgow as an infant. Tunnel worker, merchant seaman. CPGB since 1933, had served in the Canadian Reserve Rifles. Arrived in Spain 04.01.1938. Disappeared during the March/April retreats, posted as deserter from the line. 3. BAILIE Archibald F., born 28.03.1912 Belfast. Lived at 199 Connsbrook Avenue. Labourer. Years Later During the past 2 years we had a number of very successful events and initiatives. Below are some of the key highlights of the past 2 years: 4. Chamber Honors Nicole Petallides • At our last two GALA events in 2018 and 2017 we honored Nicole Petallides (the first woman to be honored by the Chamber and Nikos and Christina Mouyiaris. Two individuals with glorious careers and extraordinary achievements in their respective fields. The events were held at the Karapatakis Union League Club. We also had the first Emerging Leader Award of which was award to Christina Karapatakis, Investor Breakthrough Energies. • We sponsored the first Capital Link Forum on Cyprus that took place in March 2017. The event was very successful, and the Chamber 5. SPACEOPS was featured throughout the event. Presentation • The Chamber hosted two ‘Realized Cyprus’ events in NYC where young entrepreneurs from Cyprus presented to investors pitching their innovative businesses and seeking to raise capital. The events were the first of a kind organized by our Chamber and our community Capital Link Event in general.
