DRESS REHEARSALS DIRECTORS NOTES

I have to start by saying that as I sit here at my desk thinking about my introduction for these notes - I am overwhelmed with a sense of pride.

Since the curtains closed on the first night of School of Rock I have been inundated with fantastic comments about the show. Every person I have spoken to has praised the commitment, hard work and talent of every single member of the cast, along with various other lovely comments about the production as a whole. Thank you to everyone who came to see the show, and thank you for all the kind comments we have all received over the past few days. Your support was, and is greatly appreciated.

In putting on this production of School of Rock, the students worked incredibly hard. From day one of the rehearsals I have been consistently delighted with their effort and dedication to the show. To give you an idea of their commitment we began rehearsing twice a week back in March 2017. As I am sure you will agree the whole cast are tremendously talented, and each and everyone of them should be incredibly proud of each of their performances on stage. They sacrificed countless hours of their own time to make this show the success it was, and deserved the incredible reaction they received from the audience on both nights. The rest of the staff and I are very proud of them.

School of Rock was the first time I had ever directed anything in my life, and I have loved every minute of it. Thank you to all of my absolutely fantastic cast who I had the pleasure of working with every week. I couldn’t have wished for a nicer, friendlier, more talented group of students to make up my first ever cast. Thank you for making this such an enjoyable experience that I will never forget. I would also like to thank everyone who was involved in making this show possible. Finally, I would also like to thank Mr Close, Miss Beaton and Mrs Gavin for all of their hard work in helping me to make the show such a success. I simply could not have done it without their continued support.

I have been humbled by the response to the show, and can say that it has been the proudest moment of my professional career.

Thank you, Mr Ward.

Based on the 2003 hit film and the book by , School of Rock The Musical made its Broadway debut on December 6, 2015, under a year within being officially commissioned. The original film was a box-office hit, earning more than $131 million worldwide, spawning a television series, a potential sequel and the stage production. The success of the film made it the highest grossing musical comedy of all time, holding the record for twelve years.

Andrew Lloyd Webber bought the rights to bring School of Rock to stage in 2013, with future shows performing on Broadway, West End and a U.S. tour. The musical opened with the leads cast as as Dewey Finn and as Rosalie Mullins, respectively.

The production follows failing rock singer Dewey Finn, whom is kicked out of his band No Vacancy. Subsequently after being fired from his day job at a record shop, Dewey’s dream of becoming a famous rock singer seems further away, adding insult to injury he is forced to find money to cover rent after being intimidated by his long-time friend Ned’s domineering girlfriend Patty. By chance, prep school Horace Green phones Dewey, in need of a substitute teacher. Posing as Ned, Dewey is hired. After witnessing a music class, he urges the class to audition for Battle of the Bands, a chance for stardom. Unconventionally, The School of Rock is formed. ACKNOWLEGEMENTS
