ESPON “SIESTA” PROJECT: SECOND WORKSHOP WITH REGIONAL STAKEHOLDERS IN BUCHAREST The Management Team of the Siesta project , in collaboration with the research group of CICADIT (Interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Research on Territorial Dynamics of the University of Bucharest), is organizing the Second Workshop with Regional Stakeholders . The event will take place on the next 25 of June in Bucharest , in the building of the Ministry for Regional Development and Tourism. SIESTA - Spatial Indicators for a “Europe 2020 Strategy Territorial Analysis (www.siestaproject.eu ) is a project financed by the European Union in the framework of ESPON, the European Observation Network for Territorial Development and Cohesion (www.espon.eu ) . The project is leaded by the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) and involves other seven academic and research partners coming from six different European countries: France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Poland and Romania.. The main aim of ESPON Programme is to support policy development in relation to the territorial cohesion and a harmonious development of the European territory. It finances, among others, applied research on different themes of European territorial dynamics, in order to assess strength and weaknesses of regions and cities and provide scientifically solid facts and evidence at that level. The specific objective of SIESTA project is to provide evidence on the territorial dimension of the “EU2020 Strategy” , by identifying opportunities for different types of regions in relation to the targets and flagship initiatives set out in the Strategy. The results of this ESPON project are intended to be useful for policy makers at various scales (especially at regional and local level) in the process of planning and identifying territorial interventions. With the aim of involving policy-makers and other regional stakeholders in the achieving of the project results, two workshops have been scheduled throughout the project lifetime, the first one in Paris and the second one in Bucharest. The Bucharest meeting intends to present to regional stakeholders coming from Eastern Europe Countries an overview of the “EU2020 Strategy”, discuss with them the results of SIESTA project about strength and weaknesses of their regions in relation to the “EU2020 Strategy” and present policy recommendations and guidelines for policy makers in order to achieve the objective of the “EU2020 Strategy”.
